I think behind glasgows postings is the simple point.. how can people assume we will go up next season (and they/we all do) when we cant even get within 10 points of the playoffs this season..? what real evidence is there that we can do the business for more than a couple of months..? I hope we do it..but looking at our form this season as a whole...not looking brilliant..Yes I know there are other factors..but hey ho

Nick - if we stuck with the team that was relegated last season (ala Charlton who are 3rd) the whole "get back on its feet" excuse would wash. We didnt - we signed the best players from BR, MKDs (Plymouth), Colchester, Southend, Crystal Place and Exeter. The team we have now is not riddled/obsessed with Saints past (they werent part of it) Next excuse?
Plonko Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 They didn't have a points deduction. There was talk about it because of the way they got Lambert from Col U. but it never happened. VectisSaint said: Must have missed that. Why did they have points deducted? Norwich started the season with Bryan Gunn that was their problem. Agree though that Lambert is doing a very good job, as he did at Colchester. Our problem still remains though that on top of the 10 point deduction we had a very very poor start to the season, and we have never really recovered. Until today the play-offs were still achievable, it would have taken a hell of a run but was achievable nonetheless. But without a win today and with other results going against us the reality is that the play-offs are gone. We will be very lucky now to finish higher than 9th.
Super_Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Lets face it..moaning and arguing isn't going to solve anything. I'm disapointed that we haven't won today. I'm disapointed we aren't in the play-offs. I feel that the team should be performing better aswell. But we are going to improve. Its obvious ML and NC have big ambitions for the club. If they feel Pardew isn't doing his job right they will get rid of him, it's as simple as that. Next year we're going to be celebrating the 125th anniversary. Im confident it will be a great year. Pardew will have a whole summer to prepare the squad.

The club was on its knees, we are getting up and yes we should win more games but the players are getting to know the system. Perhaps the manager is not good enough, but you cant decide over half a season. I think the manager who would be better placed for us to compare and say look what he he has done would be IMO Eddie Howe and what he has done at Bournemouth, incredible with no money as well.

Cabrone Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 For the first time this season I think the playoffs are too far away now. The team may surprise me but in my heart this particular aspiration is over. By the time we play Norwich the teams above us will have played........ Millwall (+15 points) playing 1 game = 30 played Swindon (+15 points) playing 2 games = 29 played Huddersfield (+12 points) playing 3 games = 30 games played MK Dons (+12 points) playing 1 game = 30 games played Bristol Rovers (+5 points) playing 2 games = 30 games played Brentford (+3 points) playing 1 game = 29 games played Orient (+1 point) playing 1 game = 30 games played Saints = 28 games played Walsall (same points as us) playing 3 games = 30 games played ....which will probably bring an end to our promotion aspirations. Never mind, still been a good season in a lot of ways and we still have the paint pot and FA cup games which have taken on a whole new significance as of today. No excuses next season though.
Plonko Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 The way I see it is that we are lucky to be here at all, we had a disasterous pre-season, the squad has been changing hugely all through the season and hasn't therefore been hasd a chance to gel (or jell for that matter). Despite that, we're still in the FA cup beating teams in the div above us on the way, we're in the JPT, now call that a Micky Mouse or not but we're still in it and looking good for a trip to Wembly and as for the league, we're mid table and safe after starting on minus ten. Now take a minute out to have a look at this article. (Sorry for posting an article from the DE but I think it makes my point). Then tell everyone what an awful season we're having and how everything is now doom and gloom. COYR
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Jesus, looks like their out again. The funniest thing is, I'm actually quite happy with how we've been getting on. Funny how the dissenters tend to be the people that can't/don't want to get to games...

(according to some posters on here) The article is the past - so much has changed since then. Germany dont excuse performances now, just because they lost the 1966 world cup. For every reason/excuse for why we are doing poorly, there are probably 2 or 3 reasons why we should be doing better. This season is dead (league wise) I accept that. What worries me, is so many are convinced that next season will be so different......tell me why?

orange_bud Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 It may take a few years to get out of this division, I think we should give Pards three seasons to get everything right, and take us back up automatically, we belong in the championship. Apart from a poor spell at doomed Charlton I think he has shown he is a good coach and we are lucky to have him at the helm.

What worries me, is so many are convinced that next season will be so different......tell me why? Because we're improving the squad and we're getting better. We played four players today that we picked up in the Jan transfer window. If you think that is going to produce instant success then you're deluded. Looking at it long term (i.e. next season) it means a stronger squad and that is why next season will be better. Not only are these new players coming into the squad in large numbers but they're also doing it while we have a heavy schedule of games (in part due to cup success). This must have a make settling into a new squad a harder process. Still if it's not instant sucess I'm sure it won't be good enough.

derry Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 For a man that says he is going for it, he puts out some bloody negative teams and formations. Alan Pardew seems to me to be a manager that tries to stop the opposition and focuses on the negative aspects. We aren't going to be relegated, we sure as hell aren't going to get to the playoffs the way we are setting up at the moment. Unless Pardew opens up the team and puts in his attacking players including all the pacy ones and goes all out attack we are going to end up playing the same narrow crap for the rest of the season trying to snatch one goal wins. If he does that, I would prefer someone else.

The optimists amongst us say it was never going to happen this season, we are rebuilding and we have a 5-year plan, but why would AP suddenly employ different formations and tactics next season without trying them out now ? I said it earlier - if he cannot dig out results in games like this, he aint going to get us promoted.
Saint_clark Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 I'd like to know how you could get more attacking than; ----James-Puncheon-Morgan Waigo---------------------Lallana ------------Lambert ? Most people have been saying that we needed Wotton in the midfield today. How would that make us more attacking, exactly?
