Exeter 1-1 Saints - Reaction

Arizona

Recommended Posts

I didn't expect us to win today anyway, there are two massive games next week I expect the players have more than half an eye on these.

I just don't accept or even understand that logic, they should be up for every game, developing a professsional, winning, ruthless mentality.

Dispatching minnows like Exeter should be mere practice for the bigger fish to come.

I hate away games. At least at home I don't have to sit and watch drivel written by mongs for hours at a time.

Roll on MK Dons and Pompey, some good old southern air and a couple of cup victories please!

(As for today, not good enough - I'm sure the team and manager know it, but just in case, I'm sure all the feckwits will point it out to them... yawn).

Post of the day, sir.

Funny - Leeds managed to lose 2-0 to Exeter at their place and still beat Man Utd away. Is there a new natural law that states that Saints must beat teams like Exeter? If so, could you let me know where it is?

You see similar things happen to every team, it doesn't matter who you are having big games coming up or just played does effect the players mentality. Leeds had a crap result after beatibg Man U. Even sides like Man U sometimes have had odd results leading up to big Champions League games etc.

If we didn't have the distraction of next weeks two cup games I bet you would have seen a different result today.

We're no worse off than after the last away game at Brentford, a point away and 3 at home will get us up the league and probably into the play offs a year ahead of schedule.

If not, let's enjoy the ride anyway,so much better than previous seasons now we're able to go into every game with expectations high.

Some of the posters on this thread need to support a top four club to fuel their appetite for success, we're Saints for christ sake.

I have not listened to the game, but I did hear the commentators at the staret of the second half say the pitch is not fit for rugby let alone football.

I never felt we'd make the play offs and so am content in getting mid table safety and the players getting a team shape.

The next 2 games really are the make or break of the season. If we happen to f### up the JPT and then the Fa cup game i suggest the fans will start to fall out of love with the manager a bit.

If we get to Wembley then I believe that we will carry on in our happy journey.

the next week is pivotal to both clubs in the area.

...and the mancs stuff the skates 5-0...and we only just lost to Leeds who beat the mancs but we drew with Exeter...that means we'll stuff the skates next week...don't it? :)

If we lose our next two games I don't think there will be any doubt about it. Further more I would consider it a blight on his CV and Markus might not be best pleased either..

i had this game down as a draw, Exeter are alot better side then their league position might suggest.tisdale is avery good manager who gets his team to play to the best of their abilities. can anybody tell me how many teams have been promoted when they have started the season on -10 points?. pardew will get us promoted,(those people who are already calling for his head need therapy) but not this year.

Minus ten points and only 3 points from the first 6 games.

Listened in while working. Very disappointed with the result, and the apparent level of play from Saints. From what I can remember, as it was mostly forgettable, Exeter matched us pretty well on a really heavy and badly cutting-up pitch.

Immediately we scored, I wondered how long we'd stay in front, because we didn't sound as if we were particularly interested in adding to it. It came as a slight surprise that the score stayed 1-0 until HT, but little surprise when we conceded minutes after the restart. Once again, we didn't boss the opposition, nor close out a game with pressure. The Lads seemed rather more worried about losing than winning the game.

Members will know I'm not normally this negative, and we did draw away from home, but this goes down as two points lost again. It was a slight recompense that Alan Pardew didn't make any excuses either, but the playoffs seem out of reach to me now, if Saints can't alter their game to accept pitches and conditions that are less than perfect, unlike the surface at St Marys.

It isn't good enough for the money we have spent. Not sure how people can argue that. We need to be beating teams like Exeter.
the same should be said about Hull. Dont disrespect other clubs just because of their size. I agree we are not playing well but there are so many factors. I suspect the players , professional as they are have their minds o0n the other games this week. The league may be talked up but I doubt many really believe we would make the play offs.

funny how money spent means little when it is saints..but pompey are seen on here and having bought the FA Cup...

Lol. Are you really trying to compare saints spending to the spending there!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant wait for the threads on how we bought the JPT lol

Just got in, we actually looked decent when we got forward but Exeter were up for it far more than we were.

Based on what I saw on the pitch a draw was a fair result, but we SHOULD have won.

Blatant handball right in front of me at the end, even the Exeter player looked round at the ref before playing on.

no..but when you are in a position where you spend more than the rest of the league combined...then in relative terms is comparable

I think that is a big statement. It may be true but look from the canvas we started with.

I will join your campaign to rid us of the manager next season if we are still in this position, i hope this will all be forgotten by then. Why didnt you go today, it was a home game for you id have thought?

I remember you were one of the many that were "underwhelmed" by his appointment..I was not and I think he will take us up...right now, am concerned that he does not know what his best team is...does that mean I want him out..? no]

Davis - had little to do, but claimed crosses well which has been his major fault so far IMO.

Semi - Best i've seen him defensively, but looked lost once moved to RM. Quickly taken off after that.

Fonte and Seaborne - put these two together because they played at an equal level. Both were extremely solid and very, very little got past them. Looks a very promising partnership.

Mills - I really like this guy but he is not up to the level of Harding YET. Please bring Dan back in.

James - solid but unspectacular, had a few good passes and one good chance to shoot which he didn't take :(

Morgan - looked very good but was lucky not to be sent off for second bookable offence when he brought someone down from behind. Looks like having that red card rescinded has meant he learnt nothing about keeping his temper/petulance in check.

Puncheon - had a very on off game, and surprisingly (for me anyway) actually looked better when winning the ball from deep and then passing it on than he did receiving it in the final third. More to come from him, much more.

Waigo - looked a threat but cannot cross well enough really. Not much more to say.

Lallana - Took his goal well. Kept the ball well. Closed down very well. Again, not much else to say.

Lambert - looks extremely tired, which is gutting because I can't see where we can rest him in our fixture list.

This, for me, is the most concerning thing. Ideal game to have rested him, really, and let Barnard partner Waigo up front. Could have kept him on the bench, in case of an emergency, but, if things went our way, it would have been a good rest for the next 2 games when we'll undoubtedly need him.

On my way home from the game. I'm actually not that bothered about today's game. Boohoo, we were rubbish today, oh well, this coming week isour most important week for years.

What I don't understand is why our support was so awful today? Worst away support for ages, not sure why?

Did you go to the Exeter game last season in the CC? I found it a very hard stand to get an atmosphere going.

Back from the game. The pitch was very poor and therefore decent football was impossible - it was the sort of game where you need a defensive central midfielder who can take the game by the scruff of the neck - we don't have one who can do that. In fact we have a central midfield with an inability to tackle - 50/50 balls are never won or worse, not even competed. Major positive was Puncheon who on a better surface will be quality. Corners were poor and neither keeper really had that much to do.

Fair result in the end.
