Micky Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 Gutted - not because of the result, just seeing this board degenerate back to the total negativity reminicent of the Lowe / Burley days. Has been great fun lately - lots of positivity surrounding everything at the club, one loss and it's all doom and gloom. Was really shyte to see blatent trolling all over again - thought those days were gone, whatever. Guess I'll spectate for a while - really cannot be arsed to get back into the ridiculous arguments all over again. Apparently we were on a five year plan, how one game affects that, I know not - but to play shyte and still get a point seems to be a bit of a result to me. There are lots of twists and turns to come yet - but for now I'll let you argue them out.
Gordon Mockles Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 Not good enough. We've drawn too many & should be dominating games more. Yes, the pitch sounded poor but that's football in the lower leagues! Pardew's gonna start attracting questions with his spending & lack of peformances if things don't start improving soon. Being fair, new players need to bed in but none have set the world alight. We've been sh*t in many recent games which is why I'm concerned about the Skate game. No muscle in midfield! Exeter sounded the better side. That's not good enough.

Window Cleaner Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 Two really bad performances in a row, unbeaten yes, but we aren't playing well. Either teams have sussed us out or our minds are elsewhere. Worried now about the midweek game, these sorts of downturns can be difficult to snap out of. Wait and see, we will be fabulous on Tuesday and then again next Saturday. It's where the players are at. They don't believe in the play-offs any more and quite rightly so;
.comsaint Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 I wonder if Pardew needs to re-think his "we need to win ____ of our remaining games" forecast at all? I reckon the play-offs are beyond us now - and as people have mentioned above - they were (in all honesty) a very big ask this season - thanks to the 10-point deduction. We should therefore just enjoy tuesday night's semi-final game big time & all hope to have a great day out at Wembley later in the month. Then - next saturday - let's enjoy a game against that rabble down the road & hope to knock the bastids out the cup! There are still some high points to look forward to the rest of this season. Promotion isn't going to be one of them alas - but hey! - that's life & sh1t happens.
BigShadow Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 The league season ends today. No - it doesn't. The odds on reaching the play-offs have lengthened but it was a long shot anyway. There is still a lot to play for - most of us accepted that a top 10 finish would have been a good season given the -10 handicap and lack of pre-season. Whilst there is still a mathematic possibility it would be foolish to give up. COYR!!
saint lard Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 I am just pinning my hopes on getting to Wembley in the JPT,that will make me a happier chap. I still wish we had not drawn the Skates in the cup,we could get a battering and i sincerely don't want that as that would put a real dampner on things. Next season promotion is a must, only the truly optimistic must of thought we could do it this season. Pardew needs to get his best side in his head and stick to it. He appears obsessed with fecking about with the defence,i believe that was something the Charlton fans alluded too also.

Charlie Wayman Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 F**ing awful! At this rate we'll need a hell of a lot of luck to avoid relegation We should be glad that Pardew only has a one-year contract. If he hasn't resigned by the summer, Cortese won't have to worry about compensation. Hope Cortese is already working on a replacement because as things stand we are going nowhere. At the moment I can't see any point in attending the remaining home league games with nothing left to play for. Why do they always let us down? Rebel Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 I not totally convinced we strengthened the defence enough in the tranfser window. We are probably still short a first choice right back who can defend - and decent cover at centre back. Of the defenders we brought in only Fonte is off the right quality. We are still missing a midfield playmaker and a starting Defensive Midfielder. If the team finishes the season badly Pardew will be sacked in the Summer - Cortese and Liebher will expect automatic promotion next season and won't take any prisoners in getting there The least I expect this season is a trip to Wembley for the JPT final, victory over the Skates and a top half finish. Anything less from Pardew should lead to serious questions about his future at St Marys

SnailOB Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 Play offs was always a long shot. Its not the fact that play offs is even more further away that disappoints, its the fact that the team are not performing. Pardew has an abundance of good (on paper) players. He is now the new tinker man. He changes players/positions/formations - seems unsure how to proceed / best 11 / best formation etc.. We have invested but seem to be back at square one. Performances are just not good enough. If we want to win league / go up next season then we have to be able to cope with the likes of Brentford / Colchester / Millwall / Exeter etc.. Professor Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 Two questions: (1) Why does Pardew persist with 4-5-1 when many coaches say its a defensive strategy that actually puts more pressure on your defence? (2) Why spend money on a 17-goal striker and then leave him out until 4 minutes from the end?

egreog Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 All the usual over reaction IMO.The play offs were always a dream this season and remain so. Saints are a club on the way up, these things take time but the general direction of the club is good. Some people have such short memories. There will be a full house on Tuesday for a competition that was meant to be a "joke" to Saints a few years ago. Knee jerk reactions are natural IF expecting 3 points from every game, and maybe its the level of expectation that the current situation the club is in that has initiated this mood. A few more home wins and a top 10 finish will be the basis of a good push next year back to Championship
WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 What worries me is that we need to be comfortably beating and outplaying these sides if we are going to walk to automatic promotion next season as the play offs have now gone this season.I'm not convinced that this team is capable of that and will need further additions in the summer. It'a a shame we couldn't agree a fee for Stock as I think he would have been the difference with Hammond missing against both Exeter & Brentford Our form on the pitch at present is not acceptable. Yes we are getting draws but what has gone wrong since November!? We are seriously missing Hammond and Connelly and desperately need them back asap. martel Posted 6 February, 2010 Share Posted 6 February, 2010 Mmm, not a good idea playing Puncheon who is a passing/dribbling player, when you're putting Lambert up front on his own and playing hoofball because the pitch is a disaster. AP got the tactics wrong today, just like Leeds did last week. Having said that, I think the top teams will ALWAYS struggle to win at grounds like this - they're set-up to be good in the CCC and can't play their own game in these conditions. Still positive about Saints overall, about the team, about AP...in short I'm still happier this season than I have been for 4-5 seasons. It was not a loss let's face it. However, I think our play-off hopes are over and THAT knowledge might ruin the rest of the season including JPT. I think Poopey could be too much for us. That puts in perspective, good post.
