Arizona Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Not great, but an away point. A bit of possitive light on the situation: - Leeds threw away the lead twice at 17th placed Hartlepool - Norwich threw away a 1-0 lead at Millwall to lose 2-1 - Leeds drew here last week too. - Swindon threw away a 1-0 lead at home in injury time. - Our form is now W2, D3, L2 since our "poor" league form started. The defeats came at Leeds and 4th placed Us. We've won 4 league games on the bounce at home. Unbeaten in 3 away. S**t happens!
Saint Without a Halo Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Wasted chance to get 3 points and now 15 of the play offs!
Um Bongo Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 And we've got two bigger games to follow this week. The play offs were always a big ask. They still are.
stockbridge_saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Playoffs are not really possible now though, was a big ask this season so not the end of the world, just disappointing
Leicestersaint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 We are simply not good enough with this side.
Thedelldays Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 poor...apparently you could not tell which team were the frees and loands and which one was the multi million outfit.. poor form, poor selections...for the first time, I have my concerns about pardew
dubai_phil Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Hmm well, a good away point helps in our fight against relegation grumble Serves us right for focusing on other things on here I suppose. But it was Krap
sfc6mufc3 Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Still unbeaten in 2010, however thrown away a lead ONCE again. Lost count the times this has happened this season!!!!!!
S-Clarke Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Oh well, onto the cups! league season is over tbh, still will be content with a top 8 finish though (which i expect us to do) exeter aren't the best team in the world, but they will give anyone a tough game at their place - but seeing as we took the lead we really should have enough in our locker to see it out now. pretty disappointed tbh.
adrian lord Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Not good enough, all things considered. The time for feeling lucky we still exist is over and questions need to be asked when we cannot beat Exeter after such investment. Losing leads to Milwall, Brentford and now Exeter has sunk our season in the league.
RedWillie Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 not good enough minds on other things perhaps.... Draw a line, forget it and move on to Tuesday.
Red&White Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Playoffs are not really possible now though, was a big ask this season so not the end of the world, just disappointing absobloodylutely
saint lard Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Very dissapointing. Need to try and get a settled starting 11. Jaidi and Harding in please. We have not dominated a side for a very long time it seems. Must try harder. AP is starting to,let's say, concern me.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 poor...apparently you could not tell which team were the frees and loands and which one was the multi million outfit.. poor form, poor selections...for the first time, I have my concerns about pardew Same.
St_Tel49 Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Not great, but an away point. True but it does not change the fact that we have to win 4 MORE games than the teams in the play-offs. Every time there is an opportunity to close that gap we p!ss it away
scotty Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 I got the radio commentary on for about 30 seconds of the 2nd half, commentator was saying "and Saints are attacking their own supporters now". I thought f*ck me thats harsh, arent they singing loud enough?
suewhistle Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Just from the comments of the people listening it sounded poor (i.e. third hand!) and we don't seem to be able to raise the tempo of the game and then bring our quality into play. No doubt other people in the same situation will give a detailed analysis of what is wrong and what should be done...
Crab Lungs Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Our form is just about below average - but what makes it worse is that we are of course, ten points behind everyone else. As I said... the form would be sufferable if we started the season on 0 but because of our seemingly strong squad and the fact we have aspirations of the playoffs - the situation feels worse.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 poor...apparently you could not tell which team were the frees and loands and which one was the multi million outfit.. poor form, poor selections...for the first time, I have my concerns about pardew Really:rolleyes:
Arizona Posted 6 February, 2010 Author Posted 6 February, 2010 poor...apparently you could not tell which team were the frees and loands and which one was the multi million outfit.. poor form, poor selections...for the first time, I have my concerns about pardew Hull City 2-1 Manchester City HTH
Goalie66 Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Listening on the radio we sounded poor and tactically we appear to have got it wrong...again.
martyg1950 Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Not good, but difficult to tell whats up from just an audio commentary. All the changes and new faces obviously need more time. I think it's a great squad he's assembled now, and lurking within is a great team - may still be a while before we see it tho.
saintmonkey1979 Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 And we've got two bigger games to follow this week. The play offs were always a big ask. They still are. Agreed. I think too many of us are looking for miracles just because we have a rich owner. The original plan was a 5 year one and we seem to have lost sight of that and got carried away on the wave of our great form before christmas - including the club management.
Avenue Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 dissapointed! Should've won that with quality in team. Pardew gets a few things wrong with formation. Should have had puncheon on left, played 442 with waigo upfront and lallana on right. really think adam would do job on right. james and morgan wouldve held it toigether in middle. flippin shame!
alpine_saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Not good enough. Not good enough by far. Very, very disappointed. We were looking so good in November..
Thedelldays Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Hull City 2-1 Manchester City HTH indeed..and I bet the citeh fans are saying the very same things
Elmore Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 I think we can kiss playoffs goodbye now. Far too much ground to make up, we are bad form and we have struggled to win away in league matches all season. Not going to comment on the match as I didn't go, but it sounded absolutely dreadful.
Dog Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 We didn't lose today chaps & it was Exeter City, the team that boasts 4 dustmen, 2 coppers, 3 farmers & a garage forecourt attendant.. What a load of ****** we are. Pardew better turn this around soon or he will be up the job centre.
Avenue Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 also flippin light at set pieces again!! no coincidence, jaidi goes out n seaborne comes in..
rick1976.4.38 Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 its life, did leeds beat them ,no,so not a bad result, its next season that will matter if we arent getting the wins at places like exeter.
Dr Who? Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 The season in the league is dead, lets take a step back and take the pressure off the team for the rest of this season and see what we can get from the remaining games. Win the JPT, and start a fresh for the title next season. COYR!!! It is another away point!!
Yate Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Shame but at least we didn't concede a late one. Players have probably got the JPT and the P*mpey game on their minds which maybe didn't help. The play offs are not very realistic now I feel but we just need to keep plugging away and keep building up for next season, where we will be unbeaten for the whole season!!
Bucks Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Not good, but difficult to tell whats up from just an audio commentary. All the changes and new faces obviously need more time. I think it's a great squad he's assembled now, and lurking within is a great team - may still be a while before we see it tho. +1.
Crouch Ender Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 - Leeds drew here last week too. ?? Leeds lost 2-0 away to Exeter on 16/1. Which puts our result in perspective perhaps. The play-offs haven't been realistic for a while anyway.
sfc6mufc3 Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 We were playing better football when winning 3-1 and yet we have spent money but don't seem any better.........go figure.
graveworm Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Agreed. I think too many of us are looking for miracles just because we have a rich owner. The original plan was a 5 year one and we seem to have lost sight of that and got carried away on the wave of our great form before christmas - including the club management. Totally agree............Next season is the real test
Saint Fan CaM Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Mmm, not a good idea playing Puncheon who is a passing/dribbling player, when you're putting Lambert up front on his own and playing hoofball because the pitch is a disaster. AP got the tactics wrong today, just like Leeds did last week. Having said that, I think the top teams will ALWAYS struggle to win at grounds like this - they're set-up to be good in the CCC and can't play their own game in these conditions. Still positive about Saints overall, about the team, about AP...in short I'm still happier this season than I have been for 4-5 seasons. It was not a loss let's face it. However, I think our play-off hopes are over and THAT knowledge might ruin the rest of the season including JPT. I think Poopey could be too much for us.
Bucks Saint Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 (edited) True but it does not change the fact that we have to win 4 MORE games than the teams in the play-offs. Every time there is an opportunity to close that gap we p!ss it away Or you could just accept that going up this year was a very tough ask with both the -10 AND the huge overhall that we needed on and off the pitch, and that we have done a decent job Edited 6 February, 2010 by Bucks Saint
madruss Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 V. Disappointing. But we have a chance to erase the disappointment of this result by beating Norwich away on the 20th. (A game where a draw would've been the expected result). It's not over yet, but the job's been made a lot harder by today's result
Rasiak-9- Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 This result, coupled with: Millwall (h) Brentford (h) Colchester (h) Stockport (a) Millwall (a) Brentford (a) have cost us the season. Thats 14 points more we would have had if we had simply held on to leads which we should have never surrendered (Colchester being slightly different in that we were playing at home against a team with 10 men) *sigh* At least we're still unbeaten this calendar year! As i've said - play-offs are out of the question for this season, but promotion (automatic or via playoffs) has got to be the bare minimum for next.
Nexstar Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 The ship for the play-offs has set sail, but I still can't wait for next week
Arizona Posted 6 February, 2010 Author Posted 6 February, 2010 indeed..and I bet the citeh fans are saying the very same things If Money dictated results, you might just as well stick Man City at the top of the Premiership, have Chelsea second, Saints 3rd and Pompey propping up the Blue Square South. No matter how much players cost, it's still 11 men with 22 feet kicking one ball. On any given day anything can happen, it is foolish to believe otherwise just because your owner has a bit of cash. Don't forget in terms of cash, this side is pretty much equal to last years side (£3m sold, £3m bought... roughly).
SNSUN Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Trying to look positively on a poor result, good old Saints! It was a poor result today, we needed a win if our aspirations are to make the play-offs. I'm still hoping our League form picks up, but we might as well give full concentration to the cups. I like the look of our squad, but reading it on paper and getting them to perform well are two different things. It'll be interesting next week to see how we fare without the new signings, Fonte in the JPT excepted.
dubai_phil Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Two really bad performances in a row, unbeaten yes, but we aren't playing well. Either teams have sussed us out or our minds are elsewhere. Worried now about the midweek game, these sorts of downturns can be difficult to snap out of.
geoffnut Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Just not good enough is it. Spending all that money and getting no results for it. We should be beating teams like Exeter and Brentford and it shows just how low we have sunk. However we are now a difficult side to beat but still find it difficult to keep a clean sheet.
Window Cleaner Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 dissapointed! Should've won that with quality in team. Pardew gets a few things wrong with formation. Should have had puncheon on left, played 442 with waigo upfront and lallana on right. really think adam would do job on right. james and morgan wouldve held it toigether in middle. flippin shame! It's probably because we are relying too heavily on Lambert, I mean he scores goals but in the last few there have been a lot of free-kicks, penalties and last week's just bounced off . We are Lambert dependant, if he doesn't score we don't win.
