Hang on...

A group of untalented bints who never wrote a single on of their own songs and mime when they perform are voted as being a better live act than one of the greatest rock groups in history? WTF!?!? Who voted in this poll?

it was sponsored by Vodafone, so I'm guessing 99% of the votes were texted in by girls aged 13-16

If you actually examine their long standing influence on music and society at large, I think the Spice Girls have a good case for ahaving had a greater impact that Led Zep. The Spice girls can without doubt be credited for accelerating the case of female equlity in a male dominated world.

Sorry but I can't agree with that.

The ironic thing about the Spice Girls that always makes me laugh is the fact that they were always bleating on about 'Girl Power', yet none of them would be where they are now were it not for one man - their original manager Simon Fuller - who brought them together and created their image for them.

As for influencing the case for equal rights for women, I don't think there really was much of a case. When the Spice Girls were unleashed on the public in the mid-late 90s, can you really say that women were still the victims of sexist discrimination? I will concede that there may well have been a lot of young girls who looked at them and thought 'if they can succeed then so can I' so in that respect, yes they probably did inspire quite a few people.

The Spice Girls musically more influential than Led Zepellin??? rofl.gif

What utter tosh.

If your only point is that they "accelerated" female equality, I would say yes, in the same way my beard growth has increased whilst writing this post...azigazigahhh

They've done nothing for feminist causes at all - far from it.

They've promoted the idea that talent doesn't matter and that it's all about appearance.

They're surgically enhanced to try to perfect themselves and give all young girls the idea that they only have to be thin with large chests to be successful. They're hardly role models for female empowerment.

Tch!
