Kingsland Nick Posted 5 February, 2010 Share Posted 5 February, 2010 So we will become the Hampshire Royals. http://http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/twenty20/ipl/7139504/Middlesex-Leicestershire-and-Hampshire-in-talks-with-IPLs-Rajasthan-Royals-to-form-global-alliance.html Almost as bad as Red Bull Southampton would have been, and the Rajasthan reports sound more reliable. wadesmith Posted 8 February, 2010 Share Posted 8 February, 2010 Great , we're 'Franchise C.C' . I dunno about this one. I'm a bit of a traditionalist. I grew up watching Malcolm Marshall scaring the **** out of tail-enders in front of 6 men and a dog at the county ground. Twenty five years later and we are the leading county superpower. I'm sure it could be amazing..but I can't help feeling something about the club I grew up loving has been lost forever...sniff.

Im thinking Gower, Crawley and to an extent Warney and COrk - altho of course they were brought in with Bransgroves money but its early and can't think of any other examples!! I fear there will be inevitable changes to test cricket which is sacred imho.....

If we become this uber powerful 'mega club' along with a handful of others, what happens to Derbyshire, Northants, etc. They struggle enough now. I can't help feeling that this is the beginning of the end for the 18 club championship, although to be honest this is probably the desire of alot of club chairman. I think Rob Bransgrove has done an incredible job at Hants, we were on our arse in 1999, but as someone who loves county cricket I find this development a bit concerning. Another Marshall story. I was collecting a winning scratch card on the boundary of the county ground years ago, Marshall saw me looking over at him, smiled & asked me if Iwanted him to sign it..I panicked & said no! (i was only 10 & he was my hero) What a legend he was. What a plank I was!
