New Shirt Design Revealed??

but the 3 stripes might just breach trade mark regulations.

They're pretty snotty about anything with 3 stripes down at Ad....

They don't appear to have complained about numerous previous striped designs with three white and/or red stripes on the main body part ?

But I know what you mean...

FWIW I like the plain sash kit, or a nice straightforward equal striped kit, preferably "Tailored By" Umbro.

Either way I want to see a 125 anniversary badge in the style of the FA Cup Winners logo from 1976/7 - with the full black circle, the black/yellow curved part of which remains as the "Southampton FC" at the bottom of the current badge.

Love the single sash, and like the idea of going back the the first badge we had, and see if it sticks, if not re-design a new one.

Even though the badge was designed in the year I was born, I would be happy to see it go! Looks so dated now and we are moving into the new age of the great rish Saints!!

Just out of interest, why the hell is this thread entitled "New Shirt Design Revealed??". ?

There is nothing - other than a picture of the current kit which you'd think everyone would recognise and see has "flybe" on the front - in that link that could even remotely be considered to justify that heading.

From 1885 to 1974 saints did NOT have white socks.

From 1885 to 1938 Saints did NOT have black shorts.

From 1885 to 1896 and 1980 to 1989 Saints did NOT have red and white stripes.

From 1885 to 1974 Saints did NOT have this badge...

Southampton_FC.png

That is 89 years out of the clubs 125 years WITHOUT that fan designed 1970's badge.

Time for a badge redesign Mr Cortese. Those that think the badge has historically always been part of the club need to think again.

36 years out of 125 years is not alot!

Leave the badge alone.

I am a massive fan of the way our badge looks and I personally think it is one of the best in football. (Not bias)

I like the sash design, not worried at all by moving away from vertical stripes for a season.

I have the old Rank Xerox 100 year centenary shirt which wasn't a special design but had the badge changed slightly.....strangley that wasn't stripes either so this long history of stripes goes back a wapping 25 years.

If the badge was to be re-designed as well as the shirt i think it would need to be very similar, else in years to come on TV replays etc. we wouldn't be identifiable as saints at all. IMO

Yes, clubs evolve.

But the identity of the club is widely accepted, right now, as being that fan designed Logo and red and white stripes, black shorts and white socks (with black and red trim).

A one of special shirt for our 125 anniversary is a wonderful idea, but overall I would expect most fans to want us to remain with the colour schemes and shield we already possess.

A fascinating debate all the same though!

Thanks for the logo, I love it only being 27 its the one thing that relates to saints I love it, plus it is the best badge in the world.

Love us to get that old sash strip.

PS. What is the chance of some of the team growing 'proper man moustaches' like the old days, and then for the team photo instead of being all formal being in that old school kinda f**k you I'm better look!!! ha ha

I know some teams have been known to do silly stuff for team bonding and any player that did.... would be nice ha ha:p

Can we still keep the red and white stripes please, because thats is what Saints have been associated with since i was a kid and i happen to think thats our best kit.

Also i would like our present badge to stay the same, because not only do i have that badge tattooed on my back,i also think its the best one we have had for a long time.

^^

The whole point of this commemorative shirt is it is a ONE off..for ONE season...to celebrate our history..it is supposed to be different in a way that it is remembered as THE shirt to celebrate this landmark date with.

I've got an idea..lets just do a one off red and white stripe shirt..like every other couple of years, plonker.

The clubs history is alot deeper and more important than your child hood to present day memories of it.

I could not resist...nothing innovative or that hasn't been shown on this thread already, but thought it added a bit more of a realistic feel to a possible design for the shirt. Enjoy...maybe :)

That looks ace, not sure I'm happy about Mr. Griffin being our number nine....

So B Rabbit you liked the club badge we had when we won the FA Cup in 76?To me it looked like half of it was missing, but hey,its our history so we should bring it back.Saints used to play in shorts that looked like "bloomers",should we bring them back because its in our history?

Like it or not,we are known for playing in red and white stripes. Why change a popular formula?

If the club wants to bring out a special shirt, why not do a one off like the FA Cup one that was produced to celebrate 30 years?

Also please dont patronise me about the clubs history and dont post in orange because it makes you look like a plonker!

Someone send the sash one to the club. I think it looks *ucking great. I know they will already be considering the design but our new owners are very keen to take on board ideas and liaise with the 'lunatic fringe' (sorry couldnt resist a dig at the old duck). Jesus, how times have changed. Im in love with saints again

I think the sash shirt would be a great idea. A nod to those that founded our club, without them none of us would be posting our opinions here today. If a red sash was good enough for them it's sure good enough for me.

Back to stripes for the following season though!

How about this version of those above - I like the idea of using the sash but integrating the stripes? :smt045

There’s a lot of great thoughts on here as to how we could envisage our commemorative shirt and I would like to see a combination of ideas mentioned on this thread that is chronological of a “From and To” of our history.

Such as the Sash representing our early years, the stripes representative in the sash through our years and our current badge representing our modern years.

I think the design standing out to cover our history of these times is the one posted by Saint Fan CaM. I think a shirt like this would be worthy of our history and would look very nice in keeping with our past to present day.

I know it's a bit of a mess around but there are some real shockers on this thread.

Leave it to the professionals, thank **** we got umbro.

With some of there 2010 designs, they are fast getting the reputation back as the best kit manufacturer. New England away is nice

I think we are in for a treat IMO

Were you not alive in the 1980's? No red and white stripes between 1980 and 1989(Saints most successful decade).

Anyway this red sash kit is for ONE YEAR 2010/11 season. So why does it matter? Back to stripes in 2011.

i would like our present badge to stay the same, because not only do i have that badge tattooed on my back,i also think its the best one we have had for a long time.

That badge has only existed for 36 years out of 125 years. So hardly traditional. It was designed by a fan in a competition the club ran in 1974 and it shows in its style and cartoony look.

Needs to be all red socks.

Doesn't matter if you are keen or not! ;) :D

If it is to be the 1885 kit then has to be white shorts and red socks with a white shirt with red sash. Anything else would not be right as not what it was in 1885.

It's not supposed to be ''the same''...i would suggest more indicitive of tradition otherwise you could take it to the millionth level of detail.

Personally like the idea of retaining the current badge with the historical shirt..so a kind of mix of old and new.....and some shorts....not decided upon colour... kind of liking red.

Whatever. Bed now..Exeter 2moro :)

Mm, good point, amazing how soon I assimilate information nowadays, forgot that it hadn't actually been confirmed...

I hate those sash/stripe compromises and the ugly 3 sash thing is almost as bad as the early 90s Chelsea away kit it looks horribly like.

Plain sash or plain stripes is fine by me. And anyone who thinks that classic plain England shirt is "pikey" is missing the point. It's a beautiful, classic design, Umbro aren't responsible for the mongs who want to wear it with their trackies and hats...

I have a history of scoring goals at St Mary's ;)

I don't actually like the kit though, Rabbit has blatantly robbed England's Euro 2000 kit and it looks pants.

I suspect the back will be plain as well...

I quite like the red sash. Although Saints have played in red and white stripes from most of their existence, they first played in white with a red sash. That firmly makes a point of those original years. Of course, we could always play in red and white quarters, which I believe we did for a time.

I'm happy with the white, with red sash.

Amazing how some journo signed up to the forum can get us all repeating the same words we were coming out with a few days back and lookee here, here's me doing exactly the same

Plain sash - that means NO barcode boll@x and no bold 'since 1885' festooned all over it. Simple stitching under the badge will suffice

couldn't get any more easier than that

amen to that, I have no idea why some would want to take an old school original shirt & try to put in bad design elements from the 90's!

If we do go for the sash (which I now think highly likely), I think the closest to it will be gecko's first one.
