Wes Tender Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Yuk, overegging it or what? that sounds like a cheap sweaty from Matalan or some of the overdone since 1885 'casual' wear from the megastore 1885-2010 under the badge will suffice I have not submitted a design myself, so how do you know what it would be like to be able to pass comment? You might be imagining something entirely different to me. But presumably you do accept that as the shirt is being produced as a commemorative item, that some sort of indication ought to be placed on the shirt to show what that is? Yes, the dates under the crest could suffice, but as that has not been suggested on those designs by Gecko, then presumably you'd accept that his designs suffered that simple ommission. My business background is in Marketing / Advertising by the way. I accept though that it could be that a large percentage of those who might purchase this shirt could be Matalan shoppers and not the cultured aesthetes that you are crediting them to be. Had you considered that? Anyway, as has already been pointed out, it seems that the design has already been chosen, so any discussion of what we might like it to be is purely academic.
krissyboy31 Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 I got the impression from the story yesterday that the design has already been done. I did too but no harm in speculating.
krissyboy31 Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 I hate this kit I want traditional red & white stripes, this looks like a cheap version of Peru If it's traditional red and white stripes, it won't be a once only, never to be repeated kit, will it?
Scudamore Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 (edited) It was our first ever kit, so just having it for a season would be good. I understand the point Clark. However if i look at the banner at the top of this page that is what i think of when i think Saints. And never have i in anyway associated a red sash kit with us. Anyway i think it's pretty irrelevant as as others have said i think it's probably already been decided and it'll be in the style of that Mick Channon one at the top. 76 and all that. *edit* Having reread the original article i reckon it probably will be the sash actually. Haven't got a problem with that either. Just would prefer stripes in some form. Edited 3 February, 2010 by Scudamore

So just because the majority of our fans are not "cultured aesthetes" we should have a kit that screams like an over designed Umbro monstrosity from the early nineties then? With regard to the sash not being recognised by fans, do you think ManU's chevron on their current kit was recognised by them? It's a one off, I'd put my money on the sash being chosen already if like it has been said, it is already decided.
EBS1980 Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 I like this one, how about a thin white stripe just on the edge on the top and bottom to create a thick red stripe then a smaller one either side. Think that would look kinda cool.
saint_stevo Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Loved this- 'The Saints, having gone into administration last term, are now bankrolled by a Swiss billionaire. Just to rub their local rivals' noses in it, this week they announced they will not bother with a sponsor on their centenary shirt, for purely aesthetic reasons.' http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/early-doors/article/226865/
Matthew Le God Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Save the "Keegan Style Saints Shirt" for all the seasons after next. A one off 1885 shirt is what is needed.
Wes Tender Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 So just because the majority of our fans are not "cultured aesthetes" we should have a kit that screams like an over designed Umbro monstrosity from the early nineties then? With regard to the sash not being recognised by fans, do you think ManU's chevron on their current kit was recognised by them? It's a one off, I'd put my money on the sash being chosen already if like it has been said, it is already decided. The shirt is produced as a commercial item to attract sales. Therefore to maximise profits, it needs to be attractive to the largest number of fans who might buy it. If that is a throwback to something that Umbro produced in the early nineties, then it really doesn't matter whether you consider it a monstrosity, provided that the vast majority like it. It needs to be populist, rather than something that will win fashion design awards. Already on here, there have been many opinions expressed as to what some would like and others would dislike ManUre's plastics would buy a red bin liner provided that it had the ManUre badge on it. We have also had a chevron on our shirts before, so that is nothing new. It is no more than an interesting excursion into a hypothetical range of designs and pure speculation as to what we will be getting. I'll reserve my judgement for when it is launched.
dune Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Have I got it right in thinking that we will still have a "sponsor" emblazened across the shirt, but that the "sponsor" could possibly be the "sponsored"? If this is correct I nominate the Royal British Legion because they are the only charity i give money to. Please don't let it be some anal leftie charity like Greenpeace or Friends of the Earth.
Red N Wight Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Love this one but what about shorts. Not sure black would look good, what were original shorts. Very big
ottery st mary Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Now we are a real hard team...Lets go skins and tatto the Saints badge etc.. on their chests.. Not the supporters though...I am a coward and get cold...
Saint 76er Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 I hate this kit I want traditional red & white stripes, this looks like a cheap version of Peru TBH, since we were founded in 1885 (see how good I am at history!) I'm kinda thinking that Peru is actually just a cheap version of us. River Plate too for that matter... HTH
capitalsaint Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Save the "Keegan Style Saints Shirt" for all the seasons after next. A one off 1885 shirt is what is needed. +1. A dream scenario IMO.

Badger Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 For me if we're celebrating 125 years it has to be the original shirt from 1885, as much as I love the Keegan Patrick kit. So here are my first efforts: Thought we could have the sash but incorporate some stripes. Cheers As a leisure shirt or training shirt that is fine,or even as a single one off match to commemorate the anniversary. But not as a kit for the full season. Umbro already do a similar kit to our 1885 one not a fan of it, but would be ok. http://www.umbrofootballkits.co.uk/catalogue_1.aspx?cat=6:139195&id2=6:2527&id2=6:2519&id2=6:2516&id=6:1444 They don't seem to do an 80's style at the moment though That sash looks fine, but not for the full season as first choice home shirt as commented above.
GeckoSaint Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Anyway, as has already been pointed out, it seems that the design has already been chosen, so any discussion of what we might like it to be is purely academic. Things probably have already been sorted, but there's no harm in having a play around with some designs.
Right sider Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 I don't seem to be able to see the 3 shirts from Geckosaint.
jam Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Things probably have already been sorted, but there's no harm in having a play around with some designs. Absolutely. Nothing like a good old 'try and guess what next season's kit will look like' thread.
GeckoSaint Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Why has Geckos' designs dissapeared? Apologies, have been moving stuff around on my site. Voila:
VectisSaint Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Apologies, have been moving stuff around on my site. Voila: Awesome, especially the 3rd one, like the incorporation of the stripes. Pity about the little diamond thingy. Would the back be plain white, or does the sash go on there as well? As a minor point would it be better to incoporate the original logo as well?
SuperMikey Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Great designs Gecko, as always. I'd be happy with any of those kits tbh, although I have to say that #1 is my favourite, nice and simple and the truest to our original kit.
Tac-tics Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 (edited) maybe a tad stupid, sticking with the red strip, what about having images of saints history in the strip etc? sticking with it being red. Or every badge we have had? Edited 5 February, 2010 by Tac-tics
alpine_saint Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Apologies, have been moving stuff around on my site. Voila: I like 1 and 3 very much. Number 2 is a bit ghey.
saint_stevo Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Apologies, have been moving stuff around on my site. Voila: The first one is best. Classic
Saint Fan CaM Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Took the liberty of slightly amending Gecko's design - I like the idea of using the sash but with the stripes fully integrated too.
Scudamore Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Took the liberty of slightly amending Gecko's design - I like the idea of using the sash but with the stripes fully integrated too. Thought i'd do that so it's a bit more visible...
Scudamore Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Lucky i'm not too sensitive about criticism isn't it?!
krissyboy31 Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 barbershop Would that make the back 4 a barbershop quartet?
Under Weststand Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Apologies, have been moving stuff around on my site. Voila: Good effort Geko I really like the third one, would be more than happy if its along those lines. I like the integration of the stripes at the bottom of the sash. Not been to sure about changing the badge, but maybe its a good time to update the badge, tying the old with the new (being a new start for the club).
Matthew Le God Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Interesting to see they couldn't agree which shoulder to have the sash over!
Saint Fan CaM Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Lucky i'm not too sensitive about criticism isn't it?! That's rubbish that is. OK, not really - that's the one for me, but with the collar on Gecko's shirt. And I think a subtle change in the badge would be a good idea too - try and integrate ideas from the early days with elements of the current badge.
SNSUN Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Not that I'm complaining about the one stripe, because I like the thought of going retro, but with the predominantly white background it looks a bit like a polo shirt. Although it's better white than pink. Or blue...

Right sider Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Very rough as I only have paint on this laptop at present but old badge and a couple of other changes.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Interesting to see they couldn't agree which shoulder to have the sash over! The sash I have belonged to George Carter who is standing to the left of the chap with the bowler.
Matthew Le God Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 The sash I have belonged to George Carter who is standing to the left of the chap with the bowler. Could you post a photo of it so we can see what shade of red it is? I'd guess it will have faded over 125 years but still gives an idea.
Rusaldo Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 that's the one for me, but with the collar on Gecko's shirt. QUOTE] +1
dune Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 I'm up for something different but that sash shirt looks rubbish.
Rod Le Shearer Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Mu money is on Huffton... I dont think so. there is still plenty of time to find another sponsor,so if that was the reason,Mr Cortese wouldnt have made this decission until april/may.
Hatch Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 Lucky i'm not too sensitive about criticism isn't it?! I like that
Saint_clark Posted 5 February, 2010 Posted 5 February, 2010 I'm up for something different but that sash shirt looks rubbish. Each to their own, I think it looks quality, especially as a one off never to be seen again kind of thing.
Badger Posted 6 February, 2010 Posted 6 February, 2010 Very rough as I only have paint on this laptop at present but old badge and a couple of other changes. That looks an interesting effort.Any chance of enlarging it ?
SW11_Saint Posted 14 May, 2010 Posted 14 May, 2010 Apologies, have been moving stuff around on my site. Voila: Love 1, but would be better with a slightly thinner sash imho. Could live with 3 as well. No so keen on 2. Love the idea though.
