wow.......it feels great to be a Saints fan at the moment , doesn't it!!!!......what a fantastic decision by the club ,i.e Cortese....:)

i haven't bought a shirt for about 5 years, but i will definately buy one of these,no matter what it looks like.

Well done SFC in recognising the desires of the fanbase.....:D

Excellent news... I'll be buying a current Saints shirt for once as long as the quality's decent. Never liked the thought of walking around like an advertising board.

Now lets hope it's like the sponsor less shirt from Keegans time. THE best saints shirt ever IMO.

This is where the only problem will be - not everyone will agree that the design chosen will be the best. Where you have stated that your favourite shirt is the early 80's, I much prefered the draper tools sponsored red 'n' white stripes with the black collar from the 90's. Whatever the design though, isn't it great that we won't have that awful plastic flybe logo anymore!

Just change the collar of the '81 kit and give it a modern update and job done me thinks. Although if we are celebrating 125years perhaps something like our first ever kit instead?

Blmey, this is great news and a excellent gesture to the fans,i will certainy be adding this one to the collection.

Nice that we are in a financial position to be able to do this.

Somebody pinch me.

Nice idea. Well done, happy to buy one when next back.

The cynic in me will then open a sweepstake to see who is the first to say...

"Clearly the recession is hitting football hard as Southampton struggle to find headline shirt sponsor for next season."

Or

"Clever way of covering up another snafu in the commercial department"

It's a nice idea to commemorate 125 years although I'd have been equally happy with sponsorship of a charity like Villa does.

Saints may sell more shirts to offset the loss of sponsorship.

I note in the historical shirts link above that Pompey started out in a nice shade of salmon pink.

Good news and a nice gesture from Liebherr and Cortese. I'll certainly be getting one as I've also detested being a walking advertisement for the sponsor.

By the by, I also detested flying Air Asia because they are proud sponsors of Manchester United and tell everybody about it in their in flight magazine where they sell ManUre merchandise. I suspect that most others from other clubs hated it too. And I also detest seeing referees with the Air Asia sponsorship on their sleeve too. Football is a prostitute to this sponsorship money, but having the referees wear these endorsements is going too far.

Bloody hell thats one to throw at the skates - we are that rich we dont need your sponsorship.

This has to be a first in football surely

Mr Branson - i will offer you 10million for your shirt sponsorship

Mr Cortese - You can stick your ****ing money up your arse.

The report specifically says that the replica shirt will be without a headline sponsor. Does that mean that the actual team shirt will also be sponsorshipless or will our replica shirts not be a replica?

This is great news for football kit fans such as myself. From what I know it appears that umbro are likely to give the "tailored by umbro" look to all their teams in 2010-11.

So think of a red & White version of the England or mancity home & I bet you won't be far wrong.

Thanks to nc & ml, this shirt will be classic.

Will also stop us looking like Exeter and god knows how many other FlyBe Clones out there.

Sounds to me like the actual shirt will be without sponsor as it says they will not be renewing the Flybe deal.

This is an incredible gesture once again showing us how much Markus and NC value our support. I will be buying a shirt for sure.

Does that make us the Barcelona of league one now?

This is fantastic news.

It is indicative of NC's future plans regarding sponsorship, and where he sees Saints' aspirations for the future.

At Saturday's game I noticed that all the stewards had black tape on the back of their jackets covering up an old sponsor's logo (was it Floors-2-go?).

I also noticed that the majority of advertising hoardings around the pitch no longer carried adverts for businesses (there were a few exceptions) and now just carry the Saints logo.

Clearly NC is renegotiating the existing sponsorship deals with an eye to our future position.

The Echo says that Flybe is ending the sponsorship deal. Is that correct, or is it Saints who are ending the sponsorship deal with Flybe?

The deal runs out at the end of the season. No-one is ending it. BOO to the Echo. More cheap shots. Poor form

I am sure I heard on the radio this morning that we will no longer be sponsored by Flybe not sure of dates as I only heard the tail end of the report.

Just playing devils advocate here, but could it be a case of we can't find a new sponsor in the current climate? It sounds like a fantastic gesture, and I really hope it is just that, but why would a business throw away money?

Either way, it doesnt matter - if the club was desperate about sponsorship, im sure it could find another sponsor. the fact is that its choosing not to -thats the bigger point.

Mr 10,000 here. (Many thanks FF, Hammy; apologies DP.)

I would go for the 1889 shirt with the diagonal stripe; with the England home kit collars.

Hell I could make one right now for myself! Wheres my nearest B&Q?

What do I win?\\:D/

Of course it could also be a bloody good bit of marketing by NC. I don't know what a shirt sponsorship deal is worth to a L1 team, but he has basically just guaranteed about 20k shirts will be sold.

Worth £250,000 a year in the Championship, the sponsorship’s value fell along with relegation to League One.

Very nice gesture.

They'll probably revert back to a shirt sponsor after this 'one-off' shirt, with a lucrative deal as we climb the leagues and should be expected, so hopefully those praising now don't start slagging if this happens.

Nice while it lasts.

If we are celebrating 125 years of Saints, I think the kits will be from 1976

Most fans seem to love the traditional thick red & white stripes, and most fans definitely seem to love us playing in yellow with blue trimmings when away
