Rooney for England?

Give this guy the captaincy imo. If Terry has any decency he'll resign his captaincy, because you can't be a role-model to all the kids out there and command the respect of your team mates if you've gone and done something like that. I understand the guy has done wrong and it doesn't really affect his footballing ability, but you've got to be able to rally your team, and if the 'Team Bridge' rumours are true then he may have a big problem on his hands. However, I don't want to turn this into another John Terry thread.

What Rooney showed today was his sheer grit and determination. If you rewatch his goal, the way he sets up the move just outside the Man Utd penalty box and then motors all the way up the pitch and applies the perfect finish, that is just top quality. He's got a very strong personality too, and i'm sure he'd certainly crack a few skulls in the squad if something's not going right. He's a player who is improving more and more with every game, and I think it's about time that his maturity is rewarded with a proper title.

I think Rooney would be a better candidate tbh, he could definitely be a captain in the long term whereas Lampard is the wrong side of 30 now, so would only be a short term captain as there are other players who will grab his first team place as soon as he starts to go off the rails a bit. Rooney still has to prove that he's the best guy for the job though, and he can certainly do that at the World Cup.
