Fitzhugh Fella Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I will look forward to it if we get there, infact looking forward to going to 2nd leg - arn't you? It would be great for Markus to be able to take his family and friends to Wembley just a few months after taking over - sure he wouldn't stay at home and think its a joke. Think keeping him enthused about saints is more important than trying to convert you! I think I am going to be sick. I don't think Markus will be that bothered Nick, but you keep dreaming, fella. ALWAYS_SFC Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Teams that are in L1 and spent millions are not happy with 'fine' You maybe, Saint_Clark maybe but Me, Delldays, NC, ML and AP are not. Where have NC and ML said thay are not happy with the progress? I can remember a interview with NC when he said he was happy with the progress hence the 5 year plan. Bye Nick you do need to get out more, at least be man enough to come for a pint. I have offered enough times but you seem frit to meet me in the real world. Get out from behind your computer, and realise there is more to life than throwing anonymous insults. Perhaps you are hoping Marcus will adopt you or at least his family can give you a lift to Wembley. Put up or shut up.

I have posted my views - maybe wrong, maybe too positive for your liking but they are my views. You seem to take delight in picking up on my posts to antagonistic - why I don't know. Until very recently I did not have issue with you at all. I don't feel any desire to meet you for a pint, maybe in the past, I took your pm at face value - but you clearly didn't mean what you said. Play the post, not the poster. Would you not look forward to the JPT final? I don't think it compares with previous Wembley visits but still would look forward to it. If you wouldn't are you not going if it happens? Do you not think ML would love a day out at Wembley with his toy? Thats all I posted, hardly mind blowing cult mantras! Thedelldays Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Nick..you seem to assume markus sees us a toy..? you probably think he has a saints duvet and slippers.. we are one of his businesses ffs, sooner or later he will want a return on his investment..but for that to happen he needs to plash out a little.. he will probably go to wembley but dont assume we are some sort of play thing or a toy for his ammusement
modern matron Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I acknowledge that the form has been better (couldnt have got any worse than the 1st 10 games) With regards the -8. You'll need to read the thread, its complicated how Norwich ended up with -8, but im confident if you read the whole thread you will agree with me. I am pleased that I discovered the -8 as its very helpful for me when arguing with happy clappers. If you can add any similar stats (dont need to be 100% accurate) please let me know. You really are a strange one - I presume I am a happy clapper! It does feel as if you have been in some sort of time warp for the last 5/6 years! Actually I think you are an opinionated ***** who seems to want to live in the past and create unnecessary division. Frankly so many posters far more eloquent than me have destroyed your argument. Your ridiculous comments about a Wembley final say it all. I have been following this club for 40 years and I for one will NEVER slag off a Wembley final appearance. I am sick of your "clever" attitude. Your response to my question re Norwich being on -8 (which of coure they weren't) sums you up - full of ****!! You really dislike Pardew please explain why? modern matron Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Don't get me wrong - I will go to Wembley if we get there. Will be a good larf. Just a bit worried that we will celebrate this cup like its the world cup - any suggestion of an open top bus and I will be gone. We should see the JPT for what it is - a joke with a trip to wembley for the 2 clubs that take it most serious. Id even encourage the players to play in fancy dress. I actually hope you stay at home after your comments! Perhaps a village idiot fancy dress would be good if you have to come!

The cup runs are generating income for investment in the team aren't they? Frankly what do you know about what Markus wants? Bugger all I imagine like me..... Worked out before the amount he is spending is like us buying a plasma!
CLOTH EARS Posted 31 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 31 January, 2010 The JPT is a joke cup - nobody is looking forward to this. Luton (relegated from L2) are the holders - thats how serious clubs take it! Right Glasgow, I was having a conversation with saints fans yesterday and they were ALL pretty excited at the thought of reaching a Wembley final. NO its not the FA Cup No its not even the Carling cup BUT its a cup final at Wembley and i'll bet you that we'll sell 35.000 - 40.000 tickets 'IF' we reach the final. FOUR current Premier League Clubs Birmingham City, Wolves, Bolton and Wigan have won this Cup so its not as meaningless as you make out. We won't think about what trophy it is on the day, we will all have a good day out and we want to see Saints lift a trophy at Wembley ( we can pretend its the FA Cup ) and there is nothing wrong with that. I'd agree with you on one point and that is that an open bus tour of the city would be OTT 'IF' we won it, but the players could show the trophy off at the next home game after the final. Fitzhugh Fella Posted 1 February, 2010 Share Posted 1 February, 2010 Speaking as someone who was very "sniffy" about the JPT at the onset, I do agree it will be a fantastic experience for the younger fans if we get to Wembley and it will be a good chance to show the footballing world what large support we have. I haven't been to a JPT match yet, but will go to the MK Dons home match, mainly to accompany my nipper, but don't think I wil bother with the Final should we get through. Probably in the bigger scheme of things the MK Dons match is therefore bigger than the Pompey game.

I have always thought that doing really well in the JPT was a reasonable goal which would show that we were competitive in League 1. It was always unlikely that with the poor start and the loss of 10 points we would be promoted so the JPT was a vehicle for success this season. Getting to Wembley surely would be welcome after our failures in recent years

But you know in your heart of hearts that if Southampton were at Wembley to play the world conker championships you would be there. And if, to spite yourself or someone else, you don't go, you will have your ear pinned to radio solent or sky, because THAT is the nature of supporting a club like Southampton. Which you, Duncan, know better than anyone.

Seriously I think getting there and a good day out is almost as important as winning it. The silverware aspect means nothing to me because it is not that important but if it means we have 20,000 younguns going up and seeing their team at Wembly then it is very much worth it. People still go on about the ZDS even though we lost it. And no I wasn't there!!

Cabrone Posted 1 February, 2010 Share Posted 1 February, 2010 I don't think you can argue that the 25 game record isn't very impressive, however I'm more interested in the next 3 weeks in league 1. By the time we play Norwich the games played by our immediate rivals in this period will be: Huddersfield (currently 12 points ahead of us, playing 4 games) = 30 games played MK Dons (currently 10 points ahead of us, playing 2 games) = 30 games played Bristol Rovers (currently 5 points ahead of us, playing 4 games) = 30 games played Brentford (currently 1 point ahead of us, playing 2 games) = 29 games played Saints (playing 1 game) = 28 games played Carlisle (currently same points as us, playing 4 games) = 30 games played Walsall (currently 1 point behind us, playing 5 games) = 30 games played Depending on the results of these teams over the next 3 weeks we may either still be in the hunt for a playoff place or out of it completely. Looks like the next 3 weeks could turn out to be the pivotal period for our league campaign.

Neil Posted 1 February, 2010 Share Posted 1 February, 2010 I'm not too bothered about the silverware, except that I've never seen Saints win anything, so wouldn't mind putting that stat right. OK, I admit I wouldn't be boasting about winning the JPT for very long. But £100k for JP winners, so once we've got there we may as well win it. Every £££ counts when you're funding promotion pushes, and that pays a decent player's wages for quite a few weeks.
