BadgerBadger Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 Great individual players are not worth a wnak unless they all click and play well together - just look at the Bridgey-Marsden partneship
CamberwellSaint Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 ... Footballers have changed and a League 1 player now would probably have been a top flight star in 1959. If you took away every *non British* player from today's Prem all these lads would be minting it in the Prem by now.Football has been *diluted* by hundreds of *mercenaries* that didn't exist before and *our lads* are lower down the pecking order. If you look at 59/60 there weren't even many *non white* Brits playing pro football now there are hundreds. Oh dear. Someone's been at the Enoch Powell/Nick Griffin juice haven't they? A third tier player will always be a third tier player. What's changed is that professional footballers are far fitter and faster with better training and tactics and nutrition than they were/had 50 years ago. The Saints team from 1960 would probably get a goal or two against the current lot(Sydenham and Paine were genuine quality), but they would also a) get decimated by bookings and sendings-off for fouls that would have been commonplace in 1960 and b) run out of steam after an hour trying to retain posession and get murdered after that. I'm not even going to try to argue with your "our lads" and "hundreds of non-white Brits" nonsense. You should be f***ing ashamed of yourself. Look at the Saints squad pictures for f***s sake. Mods? Is this forum BNP friendly all of a sudden?
Scudamore Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 I had no idea that Glasgow Saint was such an aficionado of every League 1 squad EVER to make such a judgement...must say i'm impressed.

Saint_clark Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 Don't be f*cking ridiculous. There have been far better teams (squads) in this league before. Leeds for one, and that's only this season. Brighton when they had Zamora banging them in were a f*cking fantastic team.

Leeds for one, and that's only this season. Brighton when they had Zamora banging them in were a f*cking fantastic team. - A number of players that have represented there country - 6 players that have played in the top flight in England - A player that has played top flight in Italy - A Player that has played top flight in Portugal - 24 players in the squad that have played at a higher level than L1 Yes stupid to suggest.............. Andy_Porter Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 What team would everyone field if the team was fully fit?. ------------- Kelv James - Fonte © - Jaidi - Harding ---- Hammond - Schneiderlin Waigo ----- Lallana ----- Puncheon ----------- Lambert Subs: Bart, Ostemebor, Seaborne, Antonio, Connolly, Barnard and Wotton. A bit harsh on Connolly, Ostemebor and Antonio but I think that's our strongest XI. If we could get a central midfielder like Danns or Stock in there for Hammond and a more solid right back in then we'd have a team ready for the Championship imo. Andy_Porter Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Think Seaborne maybe first choice. Murty? I don't really rate Murty and I don't think we should be relying on someone with his injuries as first choice. Same with Holmes, you're always expecting an injury. Block 5 Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 in fact they would have probably got their arse kicked into next week. I've been impressed with him since he came in to the team, it's a real shame for him he's got such dodgy knee. I can't see him getting much game time now Puncheon has signed. Probably get a bit of game time during the cup games but surely Puncheon will be first choice when available.

Asked to start/stick to the right or allowed to come inside. He's been much better when he's gone straight down the middle. Similary with Puncheon, he drifts inside alot with good effect, though again it could leave the team short of width. Antonio seems to be the only player in the team who provides natural width, even if he's not just yet quite at the same level as the others. doddisalegend Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 You can only judge a squad by results not by the names of the players or the cost of the team. So as we haven't achieved anything (yet) we do not have the best team in league one ever. Manure aren't one of the biggest teams in the world just because they have Rooney and Giggs but because they win stuff regularly.

I'd like both the wide men to stay wide, then once one of the two wingers pick up the ball the other one gets into the box. Then we'd have Lambert in the box and Lallana and one other getting into the box late. I think when we've had problems scoring this season it's been a lack of pace in the side and not enough people getting into the box. Can't really comment on how Puncheon will play, I just hope he's direct.
