StuRomseySaint Posted 2 February, 2010 Posted 2 February, 2010 so far i dont think any pubs are being forced to close...? Makes sense for all pubs to be open. Much easier to police than 32,000 people wandering round town.
Seany S Posted 2 February, 2010 Posted 2 February, 2010 Yeah I was in there before the Stockport game, good little boozer - cheap beer, pool and sky sports...think thats where i'll get wet inside. Anyone know when the Old Farmhouse is opening?? I will find this out later, is my local and forgot to ask when I was in there this saturday. Northam Club is definately opening - members are allowed in but cannot sign anyone in. Other Saints fans can buy tickets for entry and these are available at the next home games prior to the Portsmyth game. There is always plenty of room in there, it is very close to the ground, a large smoking area and cheap burgers, chips and hotdogs are available. Like Stu says, most pubs are going to open aren't they? They stand to make plenty of money, and the whole myth about pubs closing their doors and all kinds of trouble in pubs is mostly pie in the sky. If there is going to be any bother on the day, then it is hardly going to be right slap bang in the middle of town or in a busy pub. It will be off the beaten track.
darren1 Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 You have not ONCE in the last nine years bought a ticket using a credit/debit card? Now you mention it I'll have to check. I work a lot of weekends so I usually tell me mate who lives across the road if I can go and he nips across and gets if for me to save a trip into town. I then meet him in the pub, give him the cash and bob's your uncle lol
The Godfather Posted 3 February, 2010 Posted 3 February, 2010 Does anybody know if the Red Lion will open before the game?
BarnetSaint Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Does anybody know if the Red Lion will open before the game? Yes-from 10am but you will need your match ticket to get in.
The Godfather Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Yes-from 10am but you will need your match ticket to get in. Cheers. I'll be there.
Son of Bob Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 I'm going to the Northam S C. Opens at 9.30am, cheap'ish booze and food and 5 mins walk from the ground. Got my tickets on Saturday. Happy days!
rocknrollman no2 Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Is the King Alfred definitely open? Yes before the game, but it will close for two hours when the game finishes.
Macey_J2 Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Has anyone actually heard of any pubs being closed or are we all just speculating?
saintkiptanui Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 The Royal Oak sometimes gets going or the Alfred.
The Godfather Posted 4 February, 2010 Posted 4 February, 2010 Has anyone actually heard of any pubs being closed or are we all just speculating? I have no doubt that the old bill will close some pubs in the city centre, Yate's etc and pubs will be closed for a few hours after the game aswell until after alll the inbreds have gone back to their caravan park.
Wax Posted 8 February, 2010 Posted 8 February, 2010 Does anyone have any more news on pubs opening before and after the Skates game and if SMS will be selling beer beforehand and at HT? I'll be coming down on the train from Basingrad so weighing up the idea of having a few in the local Weatherspoons here first to guarantee an early beer buzz before the game but not relishing the thought of none afterwards if everywhere is shut!
saint_stevo Posted 8 February, 2010 Posted 8 February, 2010 need to decide whether to drive in or bus it. Pre match boozer?
docker-p Posted 8 February, 2010 Posted 8 February, 2010 Apart from the Alfred AFTER the game, it seems everything is open. As it should be.
docker-p Posted 8 February, 2010 Posted 8 February, 2010 Best atmosphere to be found at......? The Plume
Tom Posted 8 February, 2010 Posted 8 February, 2010 I'm going to the Northam S C. Opens at 9.30am, cheap'ish booze and food and 5 mins walk from the ground. Got my tickets on Saturday. Happy days! Do you need to be a member to get in there?
Son of Bob Posted 9 February, 2010 Posted 9 February, 2010 Do you need to be a member to get in there? No but you'll need a member to get a ticket for you tonight. They're £2.
Tomobz Posted 9 February, 2010 Author Posted 9 February, 2010 i just heard that the maple is opening at 9am?? can someone confirm please?
SNSUN Posted 9 February, 2010 Posted 9 February, 2010 I shall be attending the pub I usually go to for a pre-match pint, the Royal Oak. Anyone know the opening time? (He says without trying to sound like an alcholic...)
saintchris23 Posted 9 February, 2010 Posted 9 February, 2010 i just heard that the maple is opening at 9am?? can someone confirm please? Indeed it is, but expect a few old boys in there that'll be looking for trouble though. Only what I've been told by a few of the said bunch!

Roger Ramjet Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Asked the landlord of the Farmhouse last night about Sat - doors open at 10am and hoping to stay open as close to kick off as poss.
Andy_Porter Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 (edited) Spoke to the bloke who run's the varsity last night and apparently all the pubs in city centre can open when they want but aren't allowed to serve beer until 10.30 then they have to all close their doors at 2.30 for an hour or so. Going to probably drink at the bright water in Shirley with all the pikeys at 9 and get a taxi into town just after 10. Edited 10 February, 2010 by Andy_Porter

Signs round the Alex said much the same...which means a mad dash from the game to the pub for half two. Not sure it's possible to be honest!

Not sure it's possible to be honest! Yes I don't think it will be possible either. We will all still be celebrating at 2.30! Luckily I think I've got somewhere sorted.

Andy_Porter Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Unfortunately I can't really say, sorry.
Scudamore Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Unfortunately I can't really say, sorry. Warehouse party?
bungle Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Signs round the Alex said much the same...which means a mad dash from the game to the pub for half two. Not sure it's possible to be honest! Not a chance of getting a drink afterwards. Will be queuing to get in the Alex on Saturday.

Scudamore Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Not a chance of getting a drink afterwards. Will be queuing to get in the Alex on Saturday. Was pretty full yesterday as it goes...also smelt like feet. Think i'll head for the beer garden nice and early pre game. Can actually move out there. Afterwards is a bit tricky...but i've gone an hour of my life without beer before and i'll do it again no doubt...
Seany S Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Asked the landlord of the Farmhouse last night about Sat - doors open at 10am and hoping to stay open as close to kick off as poss. oops - didn't realise you had posted >_ I was in there last night an hour or two before the game - it is my local anyway!
GenevaSaint Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Spoke to the bloke who run's the varsity last night and apparently all the pubs in city centre can open when they want but aren't allowed to serve beer until 1.30 then they have to all close their doors at 2.30 for an hour or so. So they can open, but not serve alcohol until after 13:30?

Had to struggle to get served. Managed to get a good gap to drink in over by the quiz machine, however. Usually stand at the bar on Saturdays and get in everyone's way.
jamesb Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 So the Giddy Bridge, Red Lion & Alfred is ok before game? After game Im still confused... Alfred is shut, and everywhere else open? or only open after 2.30? which is when game finishes anyway so no problems there right?
ottery st mary Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 Any lift going Saturday..Exeter area via Ottery St Mary..Please. Pay towards petrol etc...
Andy_Porter Posted 10 February, 2010 Posted 10 February, 2010 So they can open, but not serve alcohol until after 13:30? Was a typo meant 10.30

GenevaSaint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Was a typo meant 10.30 Thank feck for that, I was a little worried there Andy :-)
Andy_Porter Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Thank feck for that, I was a little worried there Andy :-) I think there would be a lot of busy parks in Southampton if they tried to stop all drinking before the game!
