Danns and Puncheon are different types of players. I'd take both, but if we are going get rid of players lets ensure its Pulis and Molyneux.

or Saints....to get another player to drop their wage demands or another club to drop their transfer demands.....football clubs and agents work in mysterious ways!

I found it highly interesting how we arrived here tactically from the early days of 2-3-5. It's also interesting how we, at so many stages of development internationally, have doggedly been holding on to whatever we had at the time, thinking it was the "correct" way to play football. An up to date echo of that is Merrington's beliefs on Solent, which he clearly shares with many others both professionals and fans.

What brings progress is the opportunity to counter the oppositions attacking system and upsetting their ways of defending. This is where I'm struggling with the thought of hanging on to a straight forward 4-4-2. All opposition knows how to play it and how to defend against it, and even though we often have the better players we are brought down to the oppositions level of game, and then struggle either to score or to hang on to a lead.

I am not sure that AP is a tactical master, even though he appears to be a good motivator with a usually good nous for players to recruit. When it comes to tactics he hasn't, at least yet, designed a way to play which caters to our strengths and upsets the opposition.

That's where Puncheon comes in: Was signing a left winger the priority ahead of getting hold of a playmaking replacement for Wotton?

I don't think we play either 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 properly as we have no left sided outlet. Until we sort that out and get the balance right we just aren't going to play passing football.

The interesting thing is the way various teams use hybrid systems to suit the talents of the players, we don't do that either.

I think there is a priority for both but it is probably the availability factor and the plan for the summer. I'm sure if we want both that the club is now in a position to cover that especially with Saganowski gone.

Judging by their assistant manager's comments prior to & after our games with MK Dons this season they clearly have some sort of problem with Saints so wouldn't expect this deal to go through now if it's up to them. Will have to wait til the summer.

17.27 Plymouth Argyle attacker Jason Puncheon is undergoing a medical at Southampton ahead of a permanent move to St Mary's. Puncheon is currently on loan at MK Dons, but is set to join their League One rivals

Where did you get that from?,I should have read above post.....SSN!

Get this one in and plus one more if you can offload 3 players, then throw the bloody cheque book away and build for next season.

Get a right back in then unless Jon (whatever the name) is any good and watch us not only win the league by 13 points but another trip to wembley with a bloody good cup run where we could beat anyone.

After that we keep the team in the championship because stability will take us even further up the league.

Also saw on Sky's clockwatch that Bryan Hughes has terminated his contract at Hull today. I've always thought he was quite a classy midfielder and would do a job for us. Was also at Charlton at the same time as Pards so could be a link there. Apologies if this has been brought up elsewhere?

Getting on a bit though, 33/34. Definitely in the twilight of his career. Maybe CDAJFU in fairness to the bloke.

So has the longest medical in history finished yet lol????

3 days to go until the window ends.......

Puncheon would be good, but would ideally prefer one of Stock/Danns as well, sets us up forthe summer perfectly then

If we get in Puncheon who is a winger I believe how are we going to play?

I think it was said that he can play a number positions. This seems to be a bit of a recurring theme for AP's players. So perhaps we'll see him at cm.

I'd rather we got some specialists than 'jack of all trades'
