Jason Puncheon to Saints according to SSN

Didnt go tuesday, was on call. Watched the JPT though, thought he was poor, good goal yes, but generally poor. Cannot cross and often fails to find a man full stop.

v B.R, saw his goal, pretty sure he slipped as he shot hence scuffing it into the deck and fooling the keeper. Didnt go to the game, working.

Shat themselves then turned round and waited for the next goal kick after he overran/planted one into the stands......

Did i say that? He scored but did little else of merit. Can throw it and can run.

Pretty much every game i have watched him play.

So, your whole arguement, on a thread, not even about Antonio, is that he scored twice in two games you didn't go to and that the defence sh*t themselves before the goalkick, even though he made one of the best passes of the season against MK Dons, to lambert and put him through one one one, outside of the boot, superb!

So, you are talking absolute bollix, don;t bother replying, you've had your pathetic running down of one of our own players and failed horribly. And you think Antonio can;t do anything when he's got the ball! take a look in the mirror pal, seems like it's a distraction away from your own failings. Get a life.

Lol @ passes of the season.

I have seen him play a few times, and am not impressed. Should be on the bench at best.

I remember Danny Wallace - blistering pace, often crossed into the crowd but was a good enough player for Man Utd to pay good money for. Sadly injuries/illness curtailed his career. If Antonio turns out to be half as good a player I'd be happy.

Saw him play his first game for Saints at Old Trafford in 1980 I think he was about 16 at the time

He's young raw and inconsistant but i think we have a gem if he has that flair to produce moments of magic in games, such as at Brentford and against MK Dons, scored the winner to set up a clash against Pompey.

His workrate is pretty damn good too, what he lacks is decision making which is what you get from MOST young players, Stevo you're one of those annoying negative posters who just post absolute ****.

+1.

Has he signed yet?

I have just been having a read through the Plymouth forums, and there was a post on there by 'Rupert' (7th down on the link below) stating that Paul Mariner has said that NO fee has been agreed but Saints HAVE made an approach...

Of course, that approach could have been accepted since. Wait and see scenario!

Also, we are 'underwelmed' by the prospect of him joining, according to 'patred' on the MK Dons forum (last post at time of writing)...

It's Gobern they want apparently.

loan or permanent ?

Personally I'd be reluctant to release him permanently at this stage of his career before we can really see what he is capable of.A year loan to Torquay or similar would be the best option.

not sure, seeing as they've already had him on loan i'd take a guess and say they'd want him for good now.

I agree with what you say though, i think he's got the ability to be a good player for us - in central midfield IMO.

AP had no qualms about selling off the decent prospect Paterson, so I Gobern could well go.

I really hope that we do bring in Puncheon as I thought that he did really well against us in the JPTSAF 1st Leg and he would be a Good addition to our squad alongside Hammond as I think that will be a really Good midfield but we will see ;)!

And I take it that if we do sign him before the 2nd leg against MK Dons that he will be Cup-Tied or what?!

He will be very much cup-tied!! But at least he will not be playing against us.

Please be quiet, you're making us mid 20's supporters look ill educated, and frankly, a bit stupid. Antonio has potential to be good, he has shown enough to warrant him a chance. End of.

ill educated? really.....?

Its my opinion. Never said he doesnt have potential, but he needs a lot of work on his final ball and decision making before he should be a starter IMO

Bored of this now anyway.....onto Puncheon

I don't object to a quick leftsided player, but I was convinced that we were looking for a CM anchor/playmaker, as we were only looking for one more. More importantly though is to stop are hoofing tendencies and have the bottle to play football also in midfield.

One of the problems is the bunching in the middle leading to an inablity to do anything else but belt it up front. Wotton is the worst because he does it without looking.

We need to play two wide like Utd did last night and it doesnt matter if we play two or three in the middle as we can pass it out to them, then we can get break outs from midfield. I've got the history book by the way. The variations are interesting.

He needs to start playing head up. I know it is one of the most difficult things to pick up, but as long as he runs looking at the ball he won't see the runners.

That was evident from the start with the crosses hit in to nobody and not passing in to the middle for a tap in having done the hard work getting to the byeline.

He is very much early work in progress.

Ouch to me as that was a kinda silly question to ask as I knew that already and yeah it would be Good to have him on our rather than being with them fingers crossed!

I agree with the two wide players, and getting the ball in the box from these areas. With strikers like ours and in this league we could get plenty of goals this way instead of trying to play our way through, and then get frustrated and hump the ball forward.

You do need to mix it up a bit, and if getting the ball out wide, and playing a way through does not work, then you sometimes have to mix it up with some ugly football in this league!

Millwall for example kicked us off the park!

If we want to buy good players, we have to let them play. Tieing them down in a narrow midfield is akin to trench warfare.

If we played two wide players we could play two or three in the middle and keep the ball. The long ball then is not ugly just another variation rather than the result of trench warfare.

You can't kick teams off the park if you can't get hold of the ball.
