The Kraken Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 SSN now announcing it on their rolling breaking news feed: "Southampton have agreed a deal with Plymouth for winger Jason Puncheon".
Spudders Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 As in, it's a done deal? Or a rumour on Sky Sports? I would orgasm if this happened. I like what you have done on all of these threads!
S-Clarke Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Excellent winger. We need this CM though ...+1
lettuce Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 I will be as pleased as puncheon if this turns out to be true... just hope he isn't punchin' above his weight in this league.
SuperMikey Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Quality signing if true, I really really rate him.
Saint_clark Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 If we don't get him now it'll be a real Puncheon the stomach.
Spudders Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 I will be as pleased as puncheon if this turns out to be true... just hope he isn't punchin' above his weight in this league. Ba dum dum tschhhhhh
John B Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 So Waigio might as well return to Italy as suggested by Alpine Mind you seems a better prospect than some of our recent signings
Andy_Porter Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Excellent winger. We need this CM though I've said for a while we've needed either a left winger or an attacking midfielder. If we have Puncheon wide left and Waigo or Antonio on the right which free's up Lallana to play through the middle. Those three playing behind Lambert with two from Schneiderlin, Wotton, James and Hammond playing slightly deeper depending on the oppositon. Lets go back to 4-5-1 and we will start dominating games again with that setup.
Andy_Porter Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 So Waigio might as well return to Italy as suggested by Alpine Mind you seems a better prospect than some of our recent signings Puncheon is left footed, I'd imagine it will be Holmes who loses out the most, although I can't see Waigo staying after his loan runs out.
S-Clarke Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 So Waigio might as well return to Italy as suggested by Alpine Mind you seems a better prospect than some of our recent signings he's more a left-sided winger, primarily left-footed i think. Stops us having to play Lallana on the left hopefully. *edit - i keep being beaten to it today
Son of Bob Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 I'd wait until it's announced on the OS before getting too excited!
John B Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Puncheon is left footed, I'd imagine it will be Holmes who loses out the most, although I can't see Waigo staying after his loan runs out. Sorry the only time I have seen Waigio start he was on the LW against Luton
Chez Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Are you Steve Claridge' date=' Chez?![/quote'] lets just say that Titchfield is the centre of the world. The skates have also sign Quincy Owusu today as well on loan. That makes me shudder a little thinking how he tore us to pieces when playing for the bluenoses.
thorpie the sinner Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 I'd wait until it's announced on the OS before getting too excited! true true words Bob, esp after Ward fiasco!!!!
StD Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Sky Sports News understands Southampton have agreed a deal with Plymouth Argyle for winger Jason Puncheon. The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Southampton's League One rivals MK Dons and scored in a 3-1 defeat at St Mary's earlier in the season. However, his time at MK Dons could be cut short after Saints boss Alan Pardew stepped in with a bid for the wide man. Plymouth are understood to have accepted Saints' offer for Puncheon, who has scored seven goals in 31 appearances for MK Dons. Though the Pilgrims have concurred on terms with Southampton, it is thought MK Dons would also have to agree to rip up the current loan arrangement. Puncheon has been attracting a wealth of interest during the January transfer window with Steve McClaren's FC Twente among his admirers. Championship trio Watford, Reading and Blackpool have been monitoring his situation, while Charlton Athletic and Leeds United have been linked with bids. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_5889206,00.html
Tractor_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 I will only believe it when there are 5 or more threads on the same subject. Well it's on the Daily Echo so must be true (although not 'confirmed') http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4876016.Saints_agree_deal_for_winger/
Kingsland Red Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Potential stumbling block noted in Sky article: "Though the Pilgrims have concurred on terms with Southampton, it is thought MK Dons would also have to agree to rip up the current loan arrangement".
Ponty Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Elliot Ward can give him a lift down when he's passing.
Mr Saints Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Next season should be fun. Excellent signing if true.
Saint_clark Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 If Puncheon agrees terms with us then MK Dons should let him go really. But then, Ince has always struck me as a bit of a knob.
S-Clarke Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Potential stumbling block noted in Sky article: "Though the Pilgrims have concurred on terms with Southampton, it is thought MK Dons would also have to agree to rip up the current loan arrangement". i'd imagine we'd have to pay them back the loan fee they agreed at the start of the season.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 lets just say that Titchfield is the centre of the world. The skates have also sign Quincy Owusu today as well on loan. That makes me shudder a little thinking how he tore us to pieces when playing for the bluenoses. Yes just saw that. Hopefully a couple of kicks from Jaidi will keep him quiet. Real loss that we can't play Fonte in the cup.
Andy_Porter Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Potential stumbling block noted in Sky article: "Though the Pilgrims have concurred on terms with Southampton, it is thought MK Dons would also have to agree to rip up the current loan arrangement". I reckon we might end up giving them Gobern, I thought there was something strange about his loan deal earlier in the season.
Tractor_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 If Puncheon agrees terms with us then MK Dons should let him go really. But then, Ince has always struck me as a bit of a knob. Cos Ince really likes us after the first leg huh?
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 If true this would be a fantastic signing !!!!!! Though if MK's had the choice of whether or not to rip his contract up why would they ?? Strange situation if true and i am not entirely convinced yet (but v v excited) Still think we need a CM/DM still imo
lettuce Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Ba dum dum tschhhhhh I suppose this means Pardew has a penchant for Puncheon. I should write newspaper headlines for a living!
Saint_clark Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Let's hope his performances aren't as comical as Puncheon Judy.
Chez Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Yes just saw that. Hopefully a couple of kicks from Jaidi will keep him quiet. Real loss that we can't play Fonte in the cup. I think the O'hara deal is more worrying. He has been very good for them and now they won't have to play Papa Booba Diop, who is possibly the worst player in the Premiership at this moment in time. After last night I am starting to get very worried about eh Derby game. I hope they sell Kaboul as he holods things together at the back for them and losing him would give us half a chance.
Chez Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Cos Ince really likes us after the first leg huh? nice move, tajke their star player before the second leg of a semi final. Inspired timing. I'd of thought the loan deal would have a clause in it that if someone offered a certain amount in the window then all bets were off.
Ponty Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 nice move, tajke their star player before the second leg of a semi final. Inspired timing. Just a shame we can't play him.
Deanovski Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 are plymouth still on the verge of admin and how come such a decent prospect has dropped down?
John B Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 are plymouth still on the verge of admin and how come such a decent prospect has dropped down? Perhaps we will buy him and loan him back to MK Dons
hypochondriac Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Could be great. i'm not saying anything else until it's on the OS though after last time!
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Some one on the mk dons forum claims to know someone from Southampton and says that Gobern could be going to them as some kind of compensation.
SuperSAINT Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Superb signing Saints!! Certainly never saw this coming (This season anyway ) TOP player at this level. Scores goals, creates, good left foot on corners and especially free-kicks (Will have to fight Lambo for those though). Wow, I wonder if that's it for signings? Or if he's considered the 'playmaker' we've been after? Props to Bailey on here who said 5 players would be coming in this window!
Mr X Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Don't believe it personally. not till its on the OS, sounds like theres competition for him
Window Cleaner Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Maybe a decent player but like I said on a thread earlier it will be just one more player and then just one more again and again with AP, he obsessed with buying players who we have no real need of. What's he going to do now play 4-2-5 and let our midfield get overrun every time? Unless of course Lallana is leaving.
.comsaint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 We won't get him unless Ince agrees to tear up the loan deal papers...
S-Clarke Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Don't believe it personally. not till its on the OS, sounds like theres competition for him we're the only club to agree a fee with plymouth.
Crab Lungs Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 i'd imagine we'd have to pay them back the loan fee they agreed at the start of the season. Weird arrangement, isn't it? Surely as the parent club Plymouth can just say 'tough tits, he's off - we need the money' ?
saint-luco Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 sooo if he is on a season long loan then he isnt ours until the summer..unless Plymouth had a recall clause or pardew does'nt want him to stop us getting to wembley ala fergie, when he brought andy cole. i dont think he really wanted him, just wanted to stop him scoring for newcastle. how much would he cost? how much would saints make if we got to the jpt final?
S-Clarke Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Weird arrangement, isn't it? Surely as the parent club Plymouth can just say 'tough tits, he's off - we need the money' ? trouble is, as it's a season-long loan at MK Dons, i'd expect they've already paid some kid of loan fee to plymouth. So they'll want their money back...
krissyboy31 Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Maybe a decent player but like I said on a thread earlier it will be just one more player and then just one more again and again with AP, he obsessed with buying players who we have no real need of. What's he going to do now play 4-2-5 and let our midfield get overrun every time? Unless of course Lallana is leaving. But AP said he was definitely replacing Mellis and this appears to be a like for like replacement.
Window Cleaner Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 But AP said he was definitely replacing Mellis and this appears to be a like for like replacement. So we're going to pay money for him and then sit him on the bench to watch Lallana,Lambert,Antonio and Barnard play all the attacking roles? I'll believe it when I see it on the OS cos it makes no sense to me, we are top heavy with wingers and attackers and advanced midfielders.
John B Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 But AP said he was definitely replacing Mellis and this appears to be a like for like replacement. Mellis hardly played
Glasgow_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 How much? Nobody can compete with us! (Financially at least)
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Mellis hardly played Still what AP said tho
