Jason Puncheon to Saints according to SSN

Excellent winger. We need this CM though

I've said for a while we've needed either a left winger or an attacking midfielder.

If we have Puncheon wide left and Waigo or Antonio on the right which free's up Lallana to play through the middle.

Those three playing behind Lambert with two from Schneiderlin, Wotton, James and Hammond playing slightly deeper depending on the oppositon.

Lets go back to 4-5-1 and we will start dominating games again with that setup.

So Waigio might as well return to Italy as suggested by Alpine

Mind you seems a better prospect than some of our recent signings

he's more a left-sided winger, primarily left-footed i think.

Stops us having to play Lallana on the left hopefully.

*edit - i keep being beaten to it today :(

Are you Steve Claridge' date=' Chez?!;)[/quote']

lets just say that Titchfield is the centre of the world.

The skates have also sign Quincy Owusu today as well on loan. That makes me shudder a little thinking how he tore us to pieces when playing for the bluenoses.

Sky Sports News understands Southampton have agreed a deal with Plymouth Argyle for winger Jason Puncheon.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Southampton's League One rivals MK Dons and scored in a 3-1 defeat at St Mary's earlier in the season.

However, his time at MK Dons could be cut short after Saints boss Alan Pardew stepped in with a bid for the wide man.

Plymouth are understood to have accepted Saints' offer for Puncheon, who has scored seven goals in 31 appearances for MK Dons.

Though the Pilgrims have concurred on terms with Southampton, it is thought MK Dons would also have to agree to rip up the current loan arrangement.

Puncheon has been attracting a wealth of interest during the January transfer window with Steve McClaren's FC Twente among his admirers.

Championship trio Watford, Reading and Blackpool have been monitoring his situation, while Charlton Athletic and Leeds United have been linked with bids.

Potential stumbling block noted in Sky article:

"Though the Pilgrims have concurred on terms with Southampton, it is thought MK Dons would also have to agree to rip up the current loan arrangement".

i'd imagine we'd have to pay them back the loan fee they agreed at the start of the season.

Yes just saw that. Hopefully a couple of kicks from Jaidi will keep him quiet. Real loss that we can't play Fonte in the cup.

I reckon we might end up giving them Gobern, I thought there was something strange about his loan deal earlier in the season.

I think the O'hara deal is more worrying. He has been very good for them and now they won't have to play Papa Booba Diop, who is possibly the worst player in the Premiership at this moment in time. After last night I am starting to get very worried about eh Derby game. I hope they sell Kaboul as he holods things together at the back for them and losing him would give us half a chance.

Cos Ince really likes us after the first leg huh? :)

nice move, tajke their star player before the second leg of a semi final. Inspired timing. I'd of thought the loan deal would have a clause in it that if someone offered a certain amount in the window then all bets were off.

Superb signing Saints!! Certainly never saw this coming (This season anyway :p)

TOP player at this level. Scores goals, creates, good left foot on corners and especially free-kicks (Will have to fight Lambo for those though).

Wow, I wonder if that's it for signings? Or if he's considered the 'playmaker' we've been after?

Props to Bailey on here who said 5 players would be coming in this window!

Maybe a decent player but like I said on a thread earlier it will be just one more player and then just one more again and again with AP, he obsessed with buying players who we have no real need of. What's he going to do now play

4-2-5 and let our midfield get overrun every time? Unless of course Lallana is leaving.

sooo if he is on a season long loan then he isnt ours until the summer..unless Plymouth had a recall clause

or pardew does'nt want him to stop us getting to wembley ala fergie, when he brought andy cole. i dont think he really wanted him, just wanted to stop him scoring for newcastle.

how much would he cost? how much would saints make if we got to the jpt final?

Weird arrangement, isn't it? Surely as the parent club Plymouth can just say 'tough tits, he's off - we need the money' ?

trouble is, as it's a season-long loan at MK Dons, i'd expect they've already paid some kid of loan fee to plymouth. So they'll want their money back...

But AP said he was definitely replacing Mellis and this appears to be a like for like replacement.

So we're going to pay money for him and then sit him on the bench to watch Lallana,Lambert,Antonio and Barnard play all the attacking roles?

I'll believe it when I see it on the OS cos it makes no sense to me, we are top heavy with wingers and attackers and advanced midfielders.
