krissyboy31 Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 AC Milan have denied any knowledge of Ian Murray or The Echo newspaer in Southampton...Spokesman at the Milan club.. commented.. "We only deal with professionals". The AC Milan spokesman went on to say our own Giancarlo Giorgetti supports The Mighty Saints and is a big fan of what their Mr Cortese is doing and has recomended that he, Mr Cortese be lured here to our club. We believe that many other top Italian clubs see Mr Cortese as a future president.... The same could be said of Cortese's stance towards Murray.
Jez Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Why did the Echo 'investigate' this in Florence? Simply because of the past links we hear speculated that help us get Papa Waigo? So they then run a non-story about random people in Florence and Fiorentina not knowing who who Nicola was, when the club after him were AC Milan all along. Ooh them at the Echo must be feeling stupid!! Quite clearly a bitter and twisted agenda being run by the Echo trying to discredit Nicola or something which is not really going to work, considering how good he has been for Saints.
Secret Site Agent Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 (edited) So what I have seen of these links is: -Nicola has been approached by an Italian Football club, which shall remain nameless, according to the Solent radio station, who is in the pay of Southampton football club. - No one has heard of Nicola, according to some sources in Florence, home of Fiorentina, an experienced football writer, who covers the Serie A side for national sporting paper La Gazzetta dello Sport, and another journalist at La Nazione, a daily newspaper based in Florence. - And a Link that John Suchet has hit out at SFC for ruining a charity event. So, let me break these down a little, (cue mood music by Barry White) -Nicola has been approached by an Italian Football club, which shall remain nameless, according to the Solent radio station, who is in the pay of Southampton football club. It has been reported by BBC Radio Solent. That is the same BBC who, after the Ross/Brand affair, have to check all stories for validity before braodcasting, including a quick shifty past Ol'Rumpol. So I assume the story, from their part, has legs. Plus, as a public service broadcaster, Saints couldn't give them any cash, the financial deal is the BBC giving Saints cash for bradcasting their games. - No one has heard of Nicola, according to some sources in Florence, home of Fiorentina, an experienced football writer, who covers the Serie A side for national sporting paper La Gazzetta dello Sport, and another journalist at La Nazione, a daily newspaper based in Florence, - So no one in Florence has heard of Nicola, especially this Journalist. And neither has the Journalist for La Gazzetta. As a Journalist, especially a national sports journalist, should they be admitting that they have no knowledge of the football scene in the UK? Does it not bode well to admit you are that clueless? And what of the other Italian football Journos, especially those outside Florence. Like Madrid or Porto!!!! (please don't tell me irony is lost on you lot!!) - And a Link that John Suchet has hit out at SFC for ruining a charity event. That is F ucking disgusting I feel that saints ruined a charity event!!! So, what did they do? Refuse them entry? Over charge them? Throw them out on the street? Get ****ed and throw up on them? We demand to know. It seemd they ruined the charity event by not letting the Echo in, and their part of the press conference had to be done in the street. Okaaaay. I see what you mean. Not that big a deal at all, really. So, in a nutshell what do we have? A report originating from a publicly owned organisation who have to check every fact, repeated in a local rag. Two journalists who shall remain nameless showing a lack of knowledge outside their shores, or not having the foresight to say, 'I'll ring you back' googling Nicola, then ringing back and saying,'Yes. I know who you mean, I know all about this story....'. And a paper reporting that a charity event was ruined because said paper wasn't allowed in the event. In other breaking news, the Pope is apparently a member of the catholic church, and Scientists believe that bears defecate in woodland areas. Edited 27 January, 2010 by Secret Site Agent

Not necessarily - doesn't explain how the Grauniad got its story.
ottery st mary Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 The same could be said of Cortese's stance towards Murray. I trust Giancarlo on this one ..he endorses my belief that NC is a top man in his field of finance and club leadership....NC has to go about his business and continue the 5 year plan.....Mr Murray will soon be history in the world of a Saints fan.. My own belief about Murray is that he is a very poor journalist/editor and his recent behaviour proves my point..:tfrag: As to NC having reasons/stance towards Murray ......can only suggest he found Murray to be an unreliable amateur and possibly believes that Murray has an axe to grind....but I would be guessing .... As you know I do not support every leader of this great football club...but NC gets my full support especially against idiots trying it on with a smear ... All my own little opinion:rolleyes: COYRs:smt054
ecuk268 Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 I see that the Echo now admit that NC was approached by AC Milan which shows up their previous article to be the cheap, shoddy journalism that it is. I like the way that, whenever they mention Radio Solent, they add "which has a commercial arrangement with SFC". Perhaps Mr Kerins would like to defend his employer....
Liquidshokk Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 I have just been having an email conversation with an ex who works at the daily echo. Conversation got onto the situation between echo and saints and I told her that their sports guys are being pathetic dishing dirt on saints and that it wont do them any favours in the long wrong. Apparently the sports editor is making his stand and has told his sports team to do the same as they feel the 'Saints boss' (Cortese Im guessing) went OTT in the initial argument and that Saints fans are still going to them for saints news so they are obviously doing a good job reporting on saints despite not being allowed in the stadium. Someone needs to get off their high horse somewhere. Ultimately though this will all end up being more damaging to the paper than to the club so I would/will suggest they get off first.
Secret Site Agent Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Not necessarily - doesn't explain how the Grauniad got its story. My point exactly.

INFLUENCED.COM Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Perhaps Mr Kerins would like to defend his employer.... Don't believe it fair that Mr Kerins should be brought into the arguement, he is a poster on this forum and fan of our club, he may post something onto a public forum that could be used against him BY his employer or indeed by the club AGAINST his employer.

ecuk268 Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 What is the commercial arrangement? They have the rights for all the live commentaries which, presumably, the club receives a fee for. Unlike the Echo they don't indulge in spurious stories.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 The Guardian say the Italian club who wanted NC is AC Milan and yet that club is, according to reports, denying they approached Cortese. Something seems a little odd from where I am sitting. For the record I think the Echo are being pretty stupid here, but both sides should take a step back as this row is not very seemly.

NickG Posted 27 January, 2010 Author Posted 27 January, 2010 Cortesse is dealing with it in the best, most dignified way - ignoring them, not responding and getting on with his job.
Third Division South Days Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 Something has changed with how the Echo report Saints items. Prior to the ban reports in the paper would not appear on the web site until much later in the day. Because the articles the paper now carry are either old hat or pot stirring the web site is producing cut and paste stories almost by the hour.
CanadaSaint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 This clash of large egos isn't doing anyone any good, and I think our best role is not to take sides but to urge all parties to park it and move on. Mr. Cortese has much bigger things to do than engage in a silly squabble with the local newspaper. He needs to remember that the media stick together, so p*ssing off the local rag is likely to hurt us at the national level. Mr. Murray seems to have lost sight of the fact that the newspaper business, worldwide, is in big, big trouble. The internet has made it easy for people to live without the printed word and yet still stay informed. If the Echo wants to survive, it needs to ensure that it has better access to the people making the news, not worse access.

So what should Mr Murray do if NC will not talk to him NC is not coming out very well at all at the moment as nobody knows what actually happened
CanadaSaint Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 So what should Mr Murray do if NC will not talk to him NC is not coming out very well at all at the moment as nobody knows what actually happened We need to see a little maturity here and someone needs to make the first move. I think it should be Mr. Murray but he appears to be going in the other direction by trying hard to make the situation worse. I don't think we're helping by siding with NC when we'd have beaten the crap out of Rupert for exactly the same behaviour. And please, Alpine and Delldays, don't try to tell me that good results make poor behaviour acceptable. (And just for the record I'm a big fan of pretty much everything else that NC is doing.)
NickG Posted 27 January, 2010 Author Posted 27 January, 2010 So what should Mr Murray do if NC will not talk to him NC is not coming out very well at all at the moment as nobody knows what actually happened disagree, NC has been dignified in his silence to child-like insults
St Marco Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 So what should Mr Murray do if NC will not talk to him NC is not coming out very well at all at the moment as nobody knows what actually happened How the hell do you figure that out?! He has ignored them, why should he reply everytime the echo has a dig at him or the club? The Echo needs the special connection it has with the club not the other way around. The club do not need to give special treatment to the echo simply because it is the local paper. The readership is tiny. Murray should not act like a tit, simple as that. He is throwing his toys out the pram. Like the kid who does not get let into a club and says "im getting my dad on you, im getting my lawyer" etc etc while the doorman says nothing. Since the club has stopped talking to the echo has the attendance been effected? Has the club gone on a losing run? Has anything with the club actually changed? Nope not at all. Where as with The Echo their stories have plummeted to new low's. Having to use a charity to take a shot at the club. The Echo are obviously under huge pressure hence why they had to re-confirm their stand today. Justifying why they are targeting the club. So i think your as wrong as wrong can be. Cortese is coming out of this with the far majority of fans support. Read the comments on their website, don't see too many people agreeing with them, quite the opposite. The Echo need to realise they are not a national paper, they hold no power. If they want to try a national style hate campaign then what do they expect? Fair play to NC for not saying anything at all, i bet that must really **** them off.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 27 January, 2010 Posted 27 January, 2010 NC is not coming out very well at all at the moment as nobody knows what actually happened Really ? according to who ? as we, in the maine, have a feel good factor about us very few have been objective, if you took your Saints hat off you may think a little different but one thing many were up in arms about, in recent years, was how much every one knew from arsehole to breakfast about the internal affairs of our club, imo if Cortese is refusing to enter into a public spat with Murray then that is the right course of action, was he wrong initially with the banning ? clearly he felt strong enough about the Echo's actions to implement it. You are right we don't know all the facts, same with the Benali incident but are/should we be entitled to ?
