Every manager will say that though won't they. I can only imagine the reaction he would of got if he came out and said the opposite!

We got nearly half the season to go. We were never going to win every game, nobody was going to. We are unbeaten this year and are still picking up points. A good team picks up points when they do not play well.

If after the next 6 games through feb we have not won 3-4 of the 6 then obviously we are not going to be up there at the end of the year. If we win our 3 home games and get something in the away games then were be alright. These results are not that bad.

It has, but we are still mid table

only because of the -10 and slow start!

moan about those by all means but that was 6 months ago - not how we are playing now, or even the same players!

Guys. Say all you want

the football manager if our team has just said we should be winning more

says it all really

Yes, but I don't think he's starting to doubt his own ability. Or, indeed, that of the players.

Who the hell is he on about then?

Anyway I still won't give up untill it is mathmatically impossible to go up

Disappointing result and (by the sound of the Solent commentary) a pretty shabby second half performance.

But I agree that it's not the end of the world. Leeds lost 3-0 at Swindon (having also been beaten in their last league game by Exeter). Charlton lost at home to Leyton Orient last night. Norwich only just scraped a win at Carlisle. But those three are probably going up - and 2 of them in the auto places. Funny old game etc.

I still think the play-offs are just achievable. Although the cups - much as I love them - are now getting in the way. I think there's a 75% chance we'll still be in League One next season. But in 2010-11, I really, honestly do beleive we'll walk this league!

I do worry about those who say we should be making the play-offs. Not because I don't admire their ambition, but because it seems the term "play-off" is getting conflated with "promotion". Even if we make the play-offs, we probably won't be promoted.

I'll settle for:

1. Winning the JPT in March

2. Beating the skates on Feb 13th

3. Finishing 8th or 9th this season

4. Winning League One with 100 points next year.

I also think that's what I'm going to get.

I think this is the best post on this thread, and many others I have read. Realistic...100% Makes us fans happy...100%

Simples

We seem to be back to our early form in the League before the team gelled we had four new players in tonight

But not sure if all the new players are any better to the ones we already had

Our form lately in the League is not much different to August/September

If only to add to a couple of good points raised by John B, at the start of the season when we had just signed Lambert, Harding, Mellis and Murty ,we weren’t getting results we expected then losing to away Huddersfield, Swindon, and then going on to draw several of our next games against Brentford home, Stockport away, Colchester home, Charton away, winning with penalties against Yeovil, drawing away again at Carlisle before losing at home to Bristol Rovers.

Up until we signed these players we had no strength in the spine of the team still with little in depth when making subs with several new players all learning to play together as a team during this span. Also in that time we had added Jaidi, Trotman , and Papa still without getting the win we were all looking for.

After losing to Bristol Rovers we went on a good run and finally started to look like a team who could play together and knew how to win with the further addition of Connolly but still lacked the quality in depth on the bench, through Oct, Nov and going into Dec and with the exception of the Brighton game we remained strong with few changes to the first team and there were the first comments of the same players becoming tired playing week in and week out.

With the January transfer window open and a chance to improve by adding quality to the bench and rest players this was going to mean changes in the first team selections, and as Pardew had stated that sometimes you need to take a step back to move forwards. Judging by our results over the last few games that are similar to our start of the season he is correct as we give the new signings that at times look ordinary until given time to settle into a team that we all know can win but now starting to add strength to the bench as we did with the starting 11 earlier in the season.

Without giving them all the opportunity to play as Pardew did with the other new signings when we were drawing and losing games we expected to win earlier in the season we wouldn’t be moving any further forward than using our strongest 11 who can’t possibly play every game for 90 minutes over a season.

Now we have quality subs on the bench too and a much stronger squad overall and I’m sure after several games, and given their chance to play over the next few weeks each of the new January signings will become every bit as confident and part of a winning team as our earlier signings have become and we will become even harder to beat.

I understand that as we have improved AP, NC and ML may have looked at the Play offs as a possible new target for this season but in the overall scheme of things this season originally began as a one for consolidation and strengthening and so far we are doing just that.

I really wish as much as everyone else that we could be up there challenging and although the Play offs are a long shot now I do think we will be very strong contenders for the Championship next season after the progress we have seen in a relatively short space of time in the last six months – On and Off the pitch.

Isn’t this more than many of us expected this season anyway however disappointed we may feel if we don’t go up this year?

And neither is anyone on this forum.

Stop being a big old fanny and desperately trying to make this a "you want the manager sacked" debate so you can wheel out your arse-achingly boring "what about Lawrie Mac" horseshi t.

TDD and me and others state we should be winning more, you and your lot wet your pants and pretend we want the manager sacked.

And the manager comes out and says.....we should be winning more.

We should be winning more. I'm shoulder to shoulder with Pardew.

You're mincing about telling Pardew he shouldn't get ideas above his station like beating Brentford. If I was Pardew hearing you say that I'd tell you where to get off.

Shoulder to shoulder with Pardew. We should be winning more. How about you supporting the manager too?

leeds had dennis wise...they were in admin..they had -15..im sure they had some turmoil, player departures..

cant remember leeds being able to buy the best two strikers in the league, a rival captain a player from CL team Fiorentia and a CCC CB...

I remember prutton being one of their main players....!!!!

they also had ken bates

unless, you think dennis wise and/or poyet are better managers than pardew..?

TBF Wise and Poyet had taken over the season before when Leeds went into admin and were relegated from the Championship so therefore had the advantage of having their own team. Poyet left just before Wise the following season in January with Leeds in 6th place. McCallister took them to te play off final that season.

can't argue with any of that, reasonable and someone excited about supporting their club. Good post.

Jeeesus christ I cant believe the reaction.. were rebuiliding, were almost on our way to Wembley and the only League 1 side officially through to the FA Cup 5th round.

We started extremely slowly this season and that has held us back. It is pretty frustrating that we are leaking goals still, but lets not forget how far we've come in so little time, if we don't go up this season we sure as hell will next season. 5 year plan is still on track aint it?

Football isn't predictable, thats why we love it. Just coz we forked up money doesnt mean were guna coast it. We can still go up though!

Realistically the only play off place we're chasing is the 6th one currently occupied by Millwall 13 points ahead of us.The five teams above that are all on good form showing no signs of flagging.

I reckon a point away and three at home, ie 4 out of every 6 is good enough, hence joining this thread !

Nope, 4 out of each 6 will only give us 70 at the end of the season, and that will be about 8 short of the ante. It's easy we need to win 15,draw 3 and lose but 2 of our last 20 games or any other permutations that will lead to us obtaining 78 points or more.

Nobody should go to any games this season as this season is just for practice.

We should also have saved the millions we have spent as staying up this season is our ambition.

The season starts now!

So, lose the next 4 and win the last 16 it is, then. :D
