Ponty Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 The expectation levels make a draw feel like a defeat when, realistically, not losing away and winning at home is generally considered good form.
Tractor_Saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Lucky to have held on from what I heard on the commentary. Lambert was hardly mentioned but Barnard sounded like he had a good run about. KD must have been our MoM but we shouldn't be relying on him so much. Just as I'm starting to take a shine to James he goes off injured (grrr). Think we were lucky to hold it to a draw but need to finish the way we usually start a match!!! We seem to step back and let the opposition punch balls into our penalty box from their midfielders. We need to close out in the midfield and not sit back and let them put the crosses in. Hey ho. Disappointed from the performance from what I heard. However, great support once again to all those that went - sounded good and joined in with the 'Should I be pompey, should I be saints'
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Before the mongs come in and mong all over the thread http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/oform.html Based on last 8 games form we are 3rd So none of that "we should be better blah blah" ******** please Obviously Brentford is a hard place to go, lost only 2 games there etc.. But we were lucky not lose this one, Kelvin saved our ass. Soon as James went off we seemed to lose our creativity. We really need to get someone in who can create stuff from the centre of midfield. let's hope we get someone in soon. I know what you are saying mate, but we have thrown far too many points away, you can't get away from that fact. What has happened to the form that saw us trashing teams 3-1 ?? The FA Cup run is hurting us, IMO, we should never have played full strength sides. We need a couple of midfielders and soon, get rid of hoof ball wotton too.
benjii Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 have not seen the table..I wonder who is around us not counting the -10...and see if that is good enough. We'd be 3 pts behind 6th place with a game in hand and a better goal difference.
S-Clarke Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Booooooooooooooooooooo! We should steamroller teams like Brentford. ! why are people being so disrespectful to brentford? it does my ****ing head in....they are a good team, they are not going to be relegated and are not in a relegation battle. They have caused all the top teams problems, and only Swindon have won there this season. they're a good side, and looking at the way the game panned out - a point is a good result.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 (edited) Why is it that as soon as Schneiderlin comes on we suddenly start playing very deep and inviting them on. It was the same last season with the dutch twerps and it's the same now. I am convinced now it's Morgan who's causing us problems in many games. We desperately need an a central midfielder who can push forward and attack more. This was most definately 2 points lost IMO. Shame. Edited 26 January, 2010 by Saint Fan CaM
saint_stevo Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Anyone happy with a point away against anyone in this league other than the current top 3 amaze me. Why?!
Saint_clark Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 I know what you are saying mate, but we have thrown far too many points away, you can't get away from that fact. What has happened to the form that saw us trashing teams 3-1 ?? The FA Cup run is hurting us, IMO, we should never have played full strength sides. We need a couple of midfielders and soon, get rid of hoof ball wotton too. So we should finish the season very strongly then once we've won the JPT and been knocked out the FA cup in the quarters.
Thedelldays Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 We'd be 3 pts behind 6th place with a game in hand and a better goal difference. who are the teams directly above and below us..?
The Kraken Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Not great, but not a terrible result. Leeds look to be a team in freefall; they lost 3-0 today, that's 3 league defeats on the spin after such an amazing start. Yet I'd still back their class to shine through over the season. As I would ours.
benjii Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 I know what you are saying mate, but we have thrown far too many points away, you can't get away from that fact. What has happened to the form that saw us trashing teams 3-1 ?? The FA Cup run is hurting us, IMO, we should never have played full strength sides. We need a couple of midfielders and soon, get rid of hoof ball wotton too. Did you read his post? 3rd over the last 8 games! I agree about the midfield - it is only decent when we outnumber the opposition there. This is fine but long-term I would like us to be more offensive.
benjii Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 who are the teams directly above and below us..? www.bbc.co.uk or www.saintsfc.co.uk or etc... Lazy git!
Roger Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 We are doing okay but not great. I dont expect us to be hanging on vs teams like brentford with the money we have spent. I feel sorry for waigo. Morgan sounded poor. Davis got us a point, also think lallana has got worse recently.
saint_stevo Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Not getting the penalties we had become accustomed too perhaps
Saint Charlie Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Sounded like the centre backs dealt very well with the balls into the box. Sounded like the midfield allowed too many to come in....
saint_stevo Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 who are the teams directly above and below us..? 4pts from Relegation Zone. 13 from P.offs
NickG Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Rebuilding season; mid-table, outside chance of play offs last 16 of FA cup (with easy home draw to make it into quarter finals;)) need to draw a home game against MK Dons to get to Wembley final draw disappointing but lets not get carried away. Brentford at home against top teams; beat Norwich, Colchester, drew with Leeds, Charlton, Millwall lost to Swindon
martyg1950 Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 who are the teams directly above and below us..? 1 Norwich 28 33 60 2 Leeds United 26 27 57 3 Charlton 27 20 54 4 Colchester 26 15 49 5 Swindon 25 8 47 6 Millwall 27 10 43 7 Huddersfield 25 19 42 8 MK Dons 27 4 42 9 Bristol Rovers 25 -2 38 10 Brentford 27 -3 34 11Carlisle25-332 12Walsall24131 13Yeovil27-431 14Hartlepool28-931 15Southampton261330 16 Southend 27 -7 30 17Leyton Orient26-1030 18Exeter28-1129 19 Gillingham 27 -7 28 20 Brighton 26 -12 28 21 Oldham 25 -10 26 22 Tranmere 26 -22 25 23 Wycombe 28 -23 20 24 Stockport 26 -27 16
Thedelldays Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 pompey are going to have a field day of we sit back like that
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Why is it that as soon as Schneiderlin comes on we suddenly start playing very deep and inviting them on. It was the same last season with the dutch twerps and it's the same now. I am convinced now it's Morgan who's losing us games. We desperately need an a central midfielder who can push forward more. This was most definately 2 points lost IMO. Shame. Wotton costs us games, he is not dynamic in the slightest, to play him in a midfield pairing is devastating as teams will run around him and if he ever gets the ball it is kicked as far as his toe will hoof it. Spiderman is a very good player, started to do a lot of chasing and plays good football, we all know he is not great in the tackle though, this is not his fault. We missed James harrassing when he came off. Wotton is the weak link, and i am not convinced with Semi at all, was at fault (along with Wotton) for the millwall goal.
Saint_clark Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 pompey are going to have a field day of we sit back like that Aha - so you think we'll take the lead
Saint_lambden Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 At the end of the day- we'd all love to beat P*mpey and win the JPT but we need to find our best 11 and keep them like that unless we have injuries/suspensions. 3 changes in defence did us no favours tonight especially when Jaidi/Perry looked solid at Centre-back v Ipswich and Wayne Thomas would have had confidence from his goal. Has Drawing P*mpey affected the players?
kpturner Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 In the car now. Pretty poor performance. Didn't really deserve a point really - we got bossed for virtually the entire match. Shame Barnard fluffed his lines.
saint_stevo Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Get Waigo in for Antonio ASAP and stop dicking the goddam defence about. Jaidi, Thomas and Harding on the bench away? WTF Brentford's only got promoted to L1 last year. Good point? Really?
forever a red and white Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 A difficult game and a point will do. Three would be nice but we have played so many fixtures with so many different players. Think Waigo could start next game, he seems to score when he plays and has a better final ball than Antonio. If we don't beat Stockport will be more concerened. Davis played a blinder it said so congrats to him for his MOTM performance. also wonder if fitness is a problem for us, or maybe just the amount of games, but something worth considering.
saintds Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 +1 and say what you like we have a lot of new faces who will take a few games to bed in, and without the new faces it couls of been a whole lot worse. Imagine? Saints fans annoyed by a draw! Pinch me pinch me! LOLZ! Oh no, we've drawn away from home. Everybody, quick, let's f*ckin paniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic!
St Marco Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 I know what you are saying mate, but we have thrown far too many points away, you can't get away from that fact. What has happened to the form that saw us trashing teams 3-1 ?? The FA Cup run is hurting us, IMO, we should never have played full strength sides. We need a couple of midfielders and soon, get rid of hoof ball wotton too. As i said last week our problem is we have too many games and asking third division players to play them all is too much. We have had some injuries and some players are playing inconsistent. Tactics wise i don't see too much different from what we have been doing for the most of the season and for the most of it being succesful. I think that is now 2 defeats in something like 25 games now. We have bought in a lot of new players in this window and they need time to fit in. Lambert needs a break, the guy has played every game almost. We have a lot of games to go and if we win the remainer of our home games were be alright. Our away form is among the best in the league. There are negatives for sure, they are there if you look for them. We maybe didn't deserve a draw in this game but hopefully that will make Pardew go out and get in the midfield general we badly need.
benjii Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 So Brentford have beaten Norwich at home. Something we haven't done in 90 mins on two occasions. They've also drawn with Leeds. Didn't realise that. They must be one of the best teams at home in the league. Tonight's result was pathetic, a disgrace, a turd through the letterbox of all fans, a wet fart in the trouser of respectability, a nervous fish in the sailor's chambers, etc.....
Saint_Jonny Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 I dont know why we signed seabourne. Jaidi is OBVIOUSLY better than him and hes sat on the ****ing bench. I know pardew is ganna wanna show how big his **** is by throwing on his "own" team but FFS Jaidi is OBVIOUSLY BETTER!!
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Did you read his post? 3rd over the last 8 games! I agree about the midfield - it is only decent when we outnumber the opposition there. This is fine but long-term I would like us to be more offensive. Yeah i can see about our form but we are hardly imposing ourselves like we were are we ?? Plus throwing points away, ok, Brentford are good at home but we should be able to close games out. I think the 4-5-1 formation can be plenty offensive enough with the right players.
benjii Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Wotton costs us games, he is not dynamic in the slightest, to play him in a midfield pairing is devastating as teams will run around him and if he ever gets the ball it is kicked as far as his toe will hoof it. We missed James harrassing when he came off. Wotton is the weak link, and i am not convinced with Semi at all, was at fault (along with Wotton) for the millwall goal. Didn't hear any evidence of that tonight. Now, I know the radio is not the best but Morgan is nowhere near consistent enough for a top 6 side IMO.
trousers Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Obviously Brentford is a hard place to go, lost only 2 games there etc.. If we get a draw at all remaining "hard places to go" will will not reach the play-offs. It's the "hard places to go" that we need to start winning at if we're going to reach the playoffs.
saintds Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Why is it that as soon as Schneiderlin comes on we suddenly start playing very deep and inviting them on. We desperately need an a central midfielder who can push forward and attack more. This was most definately 2 points lost IMO. Shame. Yes and no. We obviously changed our style when Lloyd went off, but I don't think you can blame Morgan for our perceived problems. He's been present in most (if not all?) of our numerous victories this season.
NickG Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 We'd be 3 pts behind 6th place with a game in hand and a better goal difference. puts it into perspective after our slow start.
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 So we should finish the season very strongly then once we've won the JPT and been knocked out the FA cup in the quarters. If the team can stays the same week in week out than we should do. Changing the whole of the back four because of a cup we will never win seems pointless to me.
alpine_saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Poor, poor result. Some bizarre team selections and substitutions. Bye-bye playoffs.
saintds Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 If we get a draw at all remaining "hard places to go" will will not reach the play-offs. It's the "hard places to go" that we need to start winning at if we're going to reach the playoffs. AP reckons 14 wins needed. Does that allow for us to lose/draw the "difficult" away fixtures?
Thedelldays Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 I am stunned about the squad rotation for a tougher game..when we have the bottom team at home on sat..? why on earth..?
saint_stevo Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Poor, poor result. Some bizarre team selections and substitutions. Bye-bye playoffs. Shhhhh Good point against a team playing L2 football last year....apparently
St Marco Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 If we get a draw at all remaining "hard places to go" will will not reach the play-offs. It's the "hard places to go" that we need to start winning at if we're going to reach the playoffs. Yeah but the majority of people didn't expect us to get there this year anyway. It would be an amazing achivement to get there this season but it was always going to be hard to do.
benjii Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Get Waigo in for Antonio ASAP and stop dicking the goddam defence about. Jaidi, Thomas and Harding on the bench away? WTF Brentford's only got promoted to L1 last year. Good point? Really? What relevance is that? They have lost one home game all season. On paper this was a good, or at the very leat decent, point with regards to this season. In reality it feels annoying because we were winning. We were unlucky that James went off. Our two best central midfielders (James and Hammond) are now both injured. We need to sign a new one. Still, we hardly ever lose and are having a good season.
explorer saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Very disapointed with this result, our expectations have gone backwards and listening to the game we could of got beat 3 or 4- 1 only thanks to Kelvin we got a point. Not the result so much that disapoints but the performance, surely we should be playing better against the likes of brentford was Connolly injured or just dropped and surely Wago should of been on earlier, Pardew's likening to keep switching the back 4 will cost us.
saint_stevo Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 I am stunned about the squad rotation for a tougher game..when we have the bottom team at home on sat..? why on earth..? Harding, Fonte, Jaidi, Thomas Should have been the back 4 tonight IMO
Thedelldays Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Yeah but the majority of people didn't expect us to get there this year anyway. It would be an amazing achivement to get there this season but it was always going to be hard to do. why did they not expect us..? because they lack ambition....scared of it.. leeds utd did it with -15.....that is all we have to say
ericofarabia Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Got to feel sorry for Kelv after all his heroics. Sounds like AP got outsmarted by their manager 2nd half, and maybe didn't react to it. The pitch sounded like a bit of a throw back to the 70's, divots and mud all over the place, especially the penalty area, not ideal for our cultured style of play
corsacar saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Cannot complain about what ML is doing off the pitch[signings, facilities etc], but surely we should be beating teams like this, with the players we have got. Well fed up with another poor result.
saint_stevo Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 What relevance is that? They have lost one home game all season. On paper this was a good, or at the very leat decent, point with regards to this season. In reality it feels annoying because we were winning. We were unlucky that James went off. Our two best central midfielders (James and Hammond) are now both injured. We need to sign a new one. Still, we hardly ever lose and are having a good season. Seduced by a mickey mouse trophy and FA Cup?
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 Didn't hear any evidence of that tonight. Now, I know the radio is not the best but Morgan is nowhere near consistent enough for a top 6 side IMO. IMO morgan can be with us all the way to the prem, the times i have seen him play and defo against MK Dons have proved this for me. We will be lucky to hold on to him if we fail our playoff targets, and he will become a very accomplished player. He is however a bit of a luxury at this level i do agree, but his range of passing and awareness can be a potent weapon if we ever stop playing the hoof ball. He needs a DM partner that can win a ball and give it to him, instead of a clumsy amateurish old warhorse that tbf gives everything but cannot play the game... hooooof wotton hooof. Technically we are a good side, Wotton's inclusion negates this.
benjii Posted 26 January, 2010 Posted 26 January, 2010 If we get a draw at all remaining "hard places to go" will will not reach the play-offs. It's the "hard places to go" that we need to start winning at if we're going to reach the playoffs. Fine and possibly true, but that doesn't make those bad results. It just means our slow start will cost us.
