(If you use google, finding his career earnings before sponsorship isn't really very difficult) It's very interesting to read his entry in Wiki. I knew he came from Dunblane bit but I didn't realise he was there during the massacre. I think he must be highly intelligent to have organised his career (with his mother's help) so well. And it must have taken some guts (part of the focus I guess) to move away from his family at the age of 15 to pursue his dream. But for me the crucial measure is the entertainment he provides with his skill. As far as I'm concerned, I don't expect him to entertain me with his wit. Having said that, it's reported that he's actually a very funny guy away from the intensity of the tennis circuit.

Funny you should say that, as the Observer today has a good article on just how GOOD Brtitish sports men and women are at the moment: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/jan/31/andy-murray-roger-federer-australia It does so disappoint me that some people don't recognise talent when they see it. Murray is easily the best British tennis player of the modern era and, if you bother to read his Wiki entry, you'll see just how successful he's been so far. No-one would have touched Federer today. OttawaSaint Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I guess some folks just prefer Eddie the Eagle type characters, makes them feel less jealous and inferior. It's a shame we have had some real good players in a lot of sports but most of Britain just **** all over them, no wonder they can't win at the final hurdle with that kind of pressure... FFS Because the original post was meant in jest. No wonder it went over your head. Nothing contradicting about it all if you can read between the lines. I am very proud of our sporting heroes, just happens Murray isn't one of them but he is a good player; just not good enough yet. I imagine you to be a bit of a curtain twitcher, seems like you are bored and getting your little knickers in a twist about nothing, trying to make something out of nothing again. I bet you are on all sorts of pointless committees, making yourself known in your community as some sort of warrior of social cause and injustice. I can just imagine you putting your name forward on the local tenants committee and so on, boring the hell out of people with your twisted logic and reason, seeing yourself as the voice of reason and the self-appointed devils advocate, the one who thinks she has an opinion or line of thought that nobody else would have thought of - because in your own mind, you are special. I bet you have never been wrong in your pitiful little life have you, even when it's so blindingly obvious, you just go on and on, like a scratched record, blithely unaware of your own tedious ramblings, a total parody, you see yourself as some sort of guru of ethics and morality, a lady with an openmind and yet you are so insular but you just can't see that....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................blah, blah, blah:D:smt070

Saintandy666 Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I feel bad for Murray, but I know he will get a grand slam or few by the end of his career. He can beat Federer(he has a 6-5 record against him), but he just seems to raise his game up a notch in Grand Slams. He was sublime today and nothing the 22 year old could do about it. It took Federer 17 attempts to win his first Grand Slam, and he is pretty special. Today was Murrays 17th attempt so give the guy time, he isn't going to be at his peak years for another couple of years.
Minty Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I just don't get why people feel the need to hate someone they don't really know except through the media, who has been pretty successful and has good potential for the future, because of usually flimsy evidence like the way he talks, or his perceived charisma. People allege that Murray is miserable... look at some of the people who comment about him, how miserable are they? All a bit sad really IMO, that people get fired up to hate someone in that way. Minty Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 How else do you judge people you don't know other than by what you see and hear with your own eyes? Well, personally, I judge what little I see, fully in the knowledge that unless I actually know the person, I can't make a fair judgement based on that alone, or that any conclusion I come to is based on minimal information. A bit like people who judge players based on seeing them once a season really.
