LaptopSaint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 One game at a time. We really really need to win this one. In fact we need another run of league wins and I hope pompey, wembley etc don't make the team lose sight of that. Brentford are in that group we need to catch up and overtake in the next six weeks if we're going to get to the play-offs. And it's time we have to start beating teams in the top half of the table consistently. I reckon Rickie and Barnard up top and then maybe rest Rickie against Stockport.
samoakley Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Long as the players are focused we should win this one and IMO this is a bigger game then the skates game if we lose this we can probs kiss goodbye a decent playoffs postion.
Greenridge Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Long as the players are focused we should win this one and IMO this is a bigger game then the skates game if we lose this we can probs kiss goodbye a decent playoffs postion. Pompey Free Thread - Brentford Build-up Lol, only two posts in
Scummer Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 If anyone has a spare ticket, or can get hold of one, please PM me. Thanks.
dronskisaint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Can you buy on the gate? Small chance I might get there if the day pans out right
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Don't care anymore. Bring on pompey! +1. All that matters now is beating those c*nts!
L1Minus10 Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Reckon we'll have an entire new back 4 for this game - Otsemobor, Fonte, Seabourne, Harding. Midfield of Wotton James Antonio and Lallana, Lambo and either Connolly or Barnard up front. Need 2 wins fron next 2 games really.
Saint_clark Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 ------------Davis Thomas Fonte Jaidi Harding Antonio James Wotton Lallana ------Barnard Lambert Mills did well, but he's still young. Harding has proved himself consistently.
JRM Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 mid-way through last week there was only 500 tickets left for this game, does anyone know if we have sold out yet?
Toomer Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 I think we will have to much for the Bee's, back to our usual 3-1 win.
treggs23 Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 woot - first game of the season for me - still taking along 'Lowe Out' banners etc??
Griffo Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 woot - first game of the season for me - still taking along 'Lowe Out' banners etc?? Are you for real?
treggs23 Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Are you for real? ooops sorry...do we like the rosey-cheeked man these days?
eelpie Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Can you buy on the gate? Small chance I might get there if the day pans out right More to the point for me - can you buy on the gate for the last half hour? Blooming working till then, damn, damn and curses!
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Really looking forward to the Fonte and Jaidi partnership. Think those two will be able to handle any front man in this league. We should win this one really, anyone know whether Hammond is likely to return>
SNSUN Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 CHoosing a first team now is nigh on impossible. I really pity Pardew's position now. This is a must win game, as the League is where we really need to concentrate our efforts. For me, I'd have: Davis Thomas Fonte Jaidi Mills Antonio James Wotton Lallana Lambert Barnard Subs: Bart, Seaborne, Harding, Waigo, Connolly, Holmes, Gillett We're on a high currently too. We'll win this IMO, 1-0.
northam soul Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 So where is everyone drinking and i assume the best train journey is from clapham to brentford ? rather than going into waterloo then getting the overground back.
JRM Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 So where is everyone drinking and i assume the best train journey is from clapham to brentford ? rather than going into waterloo then getting the overground back. yes, the train you get on at Clapham Junction to Brentford comes from waterloo, so you might as well just change at Clapham. Clapham to Brentford takes 20mins, trains leave every 15 mins, at .47 and .17 mins past the hour. There are 4 pubs (one on each corner of the ground) have a read of this, gives some decent advice. http://www.footballgroundguide.com/brentford/

Reckon Lambert would love to play against Stockport, since he made just under 100 appearances for them in his spell there.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Reckon Lambert would love to play against Stockport, since he made just under 100 appearances for them in his spell there. Interestingly, Lambert actually made 98 League appearances for them and scored 18 League goals, and for us he's made 24 appearances in the League and scored 18 goals.
saintrich Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 From what Pardew said before Ipswich, sounded like he's resting both Wotton and Lambert against Brentford.
Hopkins Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Problem with resting Lambert here is the Brentford keeper is probably the best in the league and since he's been playing for them they have improved massively at the back. They are hard to beat and I think were going to need Lambert at least on the bench incase we can't break them down. I fully expect us to win but it won't be easy. This is massive in my household. I'll be going and one of my housemates will be in the Brentford end.

Local paper on Friday suggested that his loan from Arse had expired along with John Bostock's. Edit - just checked their OS and he extended on Friday so is available tomorrow. Wenger you b*rstard! Micky Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Thank god for the OP - we are in danger of losing the plot and being dragged down by our 'obscession' with that lot down the road. Lets not lose sight of the bigger picture - give me the three points from Brentford, these are the bread and butter games - they are the games that are going to have the most impact on our destiny. A cup tie with those down the road is great - but we need to make inroads towards at least challenging for a playoff place now - the league is the priority.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 this will be a hard game,they arent a pushover,heres hoping for another 3-1
S-Clarke Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 This is a massive game for us, and one which we cannot afford to loose. we're now only 3 pts off the bottom 4, to slide back into there again would finish any playoff hopes.
Saint Luke Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 My mate who is a Brentford fan is very pessimistic about their chances - I'll be in the home end with him and few mates who are also Brentford fans and 1 other Saint. I might have to sit on my hands.
Leslie Charteris Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Ten points from the next four games would be a real boost - anything away at Norwich would be great. I reckon that is the next big test and more important than either cup in the big scheme of things.
Chez Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Expect quite a few changes - I think that is what Pardew said.
polegategavin Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 I would expect the following line-up; Davis Thomas - Jaidi - Fonte - Mills Lallana - James - Gillett - Holmes Barnard - Lambert Subs - Bart, Perry, Harding, Wotton, Antonio, Waigo, Otsemebor
Window Cleaner Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 I would expect the following line-up; Davis Thomas - Jaidi - Fonte - Mills Lallana - James - Gillett - Holmes Barnard - Lambert Subs - Bart, Perry, Harding, Wotton, Antonio, Waigo, Otsemebor our midfield will look nothing like that. I doubt that Gillett will ever start another game for us, AP would rather start the tea lady in midfield.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 our midfield will look nothing like that. I doubt that Gillett will ever start another game for us, AP would rather start the tea lady in midfield. Well we might not have a great deal of choice. Pardew said that he'd rest Wotton, and Morgan and Hammond are out. That only leaves James, Gillet and Gobern who can usually play CM I think.

Minsk Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Might move Fonté forward and use Seaborne and Jaidi at the back. Can"'t really see AP changing tack on Gillett, I had the same thought, given that AP said he may well rest Wotton for this one. It's quite possible he will go 4-5-1 and may even rest Rickie (from the starting 11) but I doubt it: ------------------Kelvin------------------ Thomas----Jaidi----------Seaborne-----Harding/Mills ------------------Fonte------------------- -----------James----------Lallana--------- Antonio/Papa------------------------Holmes --------------Rickie/Barney----------------- So many options available to AP, even with Hammond and Morgan missing. Then there are players such as Bart, Ostemebor, Gillett, Gobern, Perry, Wotton, Connolly, Saga, etc, who could all be called upon. What a lovely position to be in.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Might move Fonté forward and use Seaborne and Jaidi at the back. Can"'t really see AP changing tack on Gillett, Hmm, can't see Fonte playing midfield tbh. Maybe Wotton will play despite Pardew saying he wouldn't. I still wouldn't be that surprised to see Gillet- he came on on Saturday after all.
The Godfather Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Morgan available now after his 3 match ban reduced to one match.
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 --------------------Davis-------------------- Ostemobor----Fonte------Seaborne----Harding Antonio-------Morgan-----James-------Holmes --------------Barnard-----Lambert----------- Subs: Bart, Mills, Jaidi, Thomas, Lallana, Wotton, Papa
eelpie Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 --------------------Davis-------------------- Ostemobor----Fonte------Seaborne----Harding Antonio-------Morgan-----James-------Holmes --------------Barnard-----Lambert----------- Subs: Bart, Mills, Jaidi, Thomas, Lallana, Wotton, Papa I really do think Rickie must be rested. He does look tired. Better to be on the bench in case he is need, but I doubt it. I would play Papa alongside Barnard assuming Connolly is still injured. Untried before, but well worth the punt imho. Papa has the speed to complement Barnard's goalscoring opportunism.
Arizona Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Based on the assumption that Rickie, Jaidi and Lallana will be rested, I would say something like: Davis Thomas - Fonte - Seaborne - Mills Waigo - James - Morgan - Holmes Barnard - Saga Subs: Bart, Semi, Wotton, Antonio, Lallana, Lambert, Gillett
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Rest Rickie on Saturday against Stockport imo which will be an easier game than tomorrow night.
derry Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Saints didn't play between the 2nd and 16th Jan. They can hardly be fatigued.
derry Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 If we are going to rest Lambert I would have thought Saturday against Stockport would make more sense. We need to win at Brentford. We have a load of fresh players available, Lallana has a groin strain and James could be rested. I suspect James who has to play will be the right midfield although I hope not.
SFC Forever Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 +1. All that matters now is beating those c*nts! makes no sense that atitude. Let's beat them and then sing but what if the unthinkable happens and we have failed to win beforehand?
Andy_Porter Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 (edited) ------------ Davis Thomas - Fonte - Jaidi - Harding ------ James - Wotton Waigo --- Morgan ---- Lallana ----------- Lambert Edited 25 January, 2010 by Andy_Porter
jam Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 ------------ Davis Thomas - Fonte - Jaidi - Harding ------ James - Wotton Waigo --- Morgan ---- Lallana ----------- Lambert I think Pardew will go 4-4-2 and stick Morgan in for Wotton and Barnard up top with the free kick taker. Oh, and it seems that Antonio gets the nod over Waigo every time now as well.
Andy_Porter Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 You're probably right, let Barnard and Lambert strike up a bit of a partnership.
