Dark Munster Posted 25 January, 2010 Share Posted 25 January, 2010 make ticket prices cheap as possible (fA minimum)as they will only get 1/3rd gate receipts and the police bill will be huge. :smt098 I like the way you think. david in sweden Posted 25 January, 2010 Share Posted 25 January, 2010 Please do not underestimate what a game against Pompey means to us ! The rivalry runs deep and long and only when the day comes and 32,000 people swell the ground will it fully become apparent. The squad MUST know what this game will do the the average fan, the passion, the pride of being a saints fan will emanate from all sides, we will urge you on with every cheer. Win this game for us, better still, win this game for yourselves … you are the Saints fans on the pitch !! COYR well said ! few local players are in league teams nowadays and very few /none of the present squad understand what a Saints / Pompey derby really means. This is OUR CUP FINAL ! I have been to fratton on more than one instance to see saints and know full well what this tie means. And yes I know what happened (or did not) at the joiners. Maybe you refer to some of the other kids who posture, but the youth element of Southamptons support is a very active one. With respect mate, you don't know anything... you don't get a Cat C category from sitting at the back of the Northam posturing. As for Joiners... I don't think you do know what happened. JackanorySFC Posted 25 January, 2010 Share Posted 25 January, 2010 Definatly agree with this, from what I hear. Exactly, after the Joiners they'll be bricking it! The super hard skates were put well on their toes that day and the few that stood got battered! Not once have Pompey had it their way against us - not once! People on here worrying that they are all some sort of 6ft 8, 22 stone super thugs are way way way off the mark. God, even the Macedonia game is a great example, rumours of 2/300 657 coming up got hundreds of Saints out baying for blood - what happened? A pathetic and **** scarred mob of about 30 Pompey were escorted 3 deep by OB as young and old saints tried to get at them through Kingsland Market. Up the Saints! I don't care who is inside or outside of our 'firm' - I only care about the football. If you want to have a punch up, do it away from St Marys...somewhere like Lordshill where you won't know the difference afterwards. This club is rising from the ashes, don't let the fishy few drag us down to their level. Wishful thinking I guess though. I was at Fratton in 84..10yrs old and **** scared on the way back. Minty Posted 25 January, 2010 Share Posted 25 January, 2010 You've turned into a right little jessy minty, or are you on your period? Nobody is bigging up anyone, I was simply pointing out that Thedulldays doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. Stu, If, by not wanting any violence to be associated with my club, this fixture, or football in general, that makes me a 'right little jessy', then I think you'll find there are thousands of other 'right little jessy's' in the world too. If you can explain to me exactly what the point is in all this discussion the 'youth' or 'Joiners 03', and it's relevence to a football match in the FA Cup, (without resorting to cheap insults that only serve to make you like a schoolboy) then I'll happily listen and debate it. But as far as I'm concerned, it is simple: ANYONE who thinks that wilful violence can in any way be condoned, whether connected to football or not, and who therefore risks seriously injuring or even killing another human being, is in need of serious help. To have such a lack of respect for life and proactively seek out to harm another is utterly sick, and discussing it here in the way some do ('hundreds of Saints out baying for blood ... Up the Saints'! - WTF?!?) is beyond my comprehension and indicatve only of the sad state of affairs that this world finds itself in. In short, IMO, it's disgusting, has no place in life let alone sport, and I am ashamed that there are so-called 'Saints fans' who take part. monosaint Posted 25 January, 2010 Share Posted 25 January, 2010 Looking at the obvious anticipation for this match we should hope that Pompey do recover from their current financial difficulties. In that last year we have both suffered and it's great to be thinking about the game and not Pompey's potential demise. We were there once don't forget. It's great for the area that both clubs are successful. Without that this fixture may dissappear. That would be a shame. Let's leave the mindless minority to their abuse.. It would be a great shame for a great rivalry to die out. I believe a lot of other football fans also see this as a great derby fixture. It was interesting to see on the Robbo Robson blog on the bbc sport website and it was interesting to see that he described it as "It'll make City-United at Eastlands look like a bit of a fracas at the local bridge club". Shows that it is one of the better rivalries in english football and would be a shame to lose it. Can never imagine us having a similar rivalry with Reading, Bournemouth etc... dune Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 with saints and pompey..it is a whole different level to posturing to southend fans behind a police line Were you at the CCC night match and did you witness the pompey fans fighting each other in their stand? I thought not, but had you been there and known the facts behind the said infighting you'd be aware that it occured because revenge was being exacted on the pompey fans that ran away. By all accounts Pompey were well and truely battered outside the joiners and most legged it. As for your comments about the "Yoof" i think you are confusing the influx of teens with bad attitudes with the "Youth". I made comment about gobby teens in block 42 the other week and fully agree that there's some right ****s in that stand, but you're wrong to call them the Youth because clearly they are not. As it goes our fanbase is very different to what i was during your time (and mine) and there is a new generation that has come through since the last time we played Pompey. Go to any game - particularly the aways - and the ratio between groups of young lads - to olders groups of lads - to families has changed with more young (18 - 21) casuals than there has been for a generation. That all said i don't envisage that much trouble (on a par with the night match) because it'll be a 12 o clock K/O in broad daylight, but if the match had been a night match my hunch is that Pompeys lads would take an even bigger beating than last time.
