With our match likely to be switched to a Sunday lunchtime ( Valentines Day ) on TV... there will be some dissapointed ladies in Southampton. Who is already thinking up their excuses?

She gave me the silent treatment, and wasn't too pleased when I then went on to tell her Valentines Day is a made up day. Tell her you don't need a made up day to demonstrate your love. Buy her flowers etc all year round - tell her you refuse to pander to the lemming-like behaviour of those willing to pay a fruitin' fortune to make up for their unloving ways the rest of the year. That should do the trick

She then spent 5 minutes outlining the lengths she was willing to go to convince me to stay up here. It worked. Still heading down if it's on the Saturday though, don't get why the 13th would be a problem for anyone?

Although I have over the last 3 years, come to realise that although being away from Southampton means getting to less matches, being a (slightly) mature student amongst young girls away from home for the first time and willing to experiment has some advantages. She assumed I would be going to hers straight after the game and not staying in town all night celebebrating.Shes not to happy with that but she will soon come round.

Luckily we're 8 hours ahead so will give me all day to rack up the brownie points!

That became regular as she doesn't drink and knew I liked a beer or two on matchday and was happy to drive from time to time. From someone who hadn't ever seen a game of football a few years ago she is now a Season Ticket holder, loves the Saints, doesn't drink and always drives us, and is now looking forward to her first derby game against the skates, even if it's on Valentines Day!

A pre match viewing of old videos of previous wins against the skates and as a special treat to mark the day a nostalgic trip back to Valentines day 1994 Saints 4 Liverpool 2 in the snow, very romantic. A trip To St Mary's to watch the match and then to the pub for copious amounts of beer followed by a Ruby at any place daft enough to let you in She'll love for it
