Saints vs Pompey!! - Reaction Thread

If they do decide to do priority tickets for this for people that went yesterday, I will be hiding my Ipswich tickets in the safest place I know, a place no human would dare go near, my girlfriend's arsecheeks. :-)

Wow, just wow! You brave soul.

Hmm, well, i was on my way to birmingham when i heard the news and went through a few emotions.

1st. WOW THE SKATES AT HOME !!!! GET IN

2nd. Well, is it that good a result, i mean, they will prob beat us, then they will have the bragging rights.

3rd. But, hell, what if they do beat us ?? We are a league one team with nothing to lose, and i actually think we could win !!

4th. But can i put up with the crap if we do lose ??

Anyways, wow, i'm not sure where my head is at but i think i am happy lol

No doubt about it, for all the bravado the skates are absolutely bricking it...

They know that if they lose they will be absolutely ****ed. Bragging rights are already heading back our way with a solvent club going up against a debt ridden club going down.

They are absolutely terrified about losing this one as 1) They'd never hear the end of it. And 2) It could really kick start a downward spiral, kill off their confidence and sent them reeling off to relegation/ administration or even complete close down... This game is massive for them, a delightful distraction for us...

But before the realists start talking us down lets not forget they're bottom for a reason... They struggled like **** against Coventry and I'd fancy our chances against them. An inform League One side against the bottom Premier League club?

Have we learnt nothing from Leeds? They beat Man Utd... This is ****ing Pompey for Christs sake!

We can sooooo do this....

Well, I was quite ambivalent about the Ipswich match as I have a half ST and didn't really want another Saturday league match being rescheduled resulting in me missing it, but now....

Come on! Let's do those filthy ne'erdowells.

Spent a while reflecting on the likely outcome. They should win but I see no reason why we can't score against them. We are dangerous at set pieces, whether shots from Rickie or corners.

Antonio and Waigo could have the beating of their full back. If we line up in the 4-5-1 then we can also compete well in midfield. I think much will depend on which attacking players they still have left and whether they are up for it.

Can't wait for the atmosphere but just hope there isn't too much agro outside (or inside).

I'm delighted with this draw. You really couldn't make it up even if you were a Disney scriptwriter. Even if we lose, we have the excuse that we're a third division team and they're Premiership, so disappointing, but no great surprise. But what if we beat them? It will be a disgrace and humiliation scenario for them.

I really can't be bothered to read back through all the posts so far, which must almost be a record number of responses for the time available since the draw, but can anybody express an opinion backed by any evidence about what would happen should the Skates go under before the tie? I can't remember what the deadline date was for their HMRC settlement winding up order. Presumably, if they're in administration then, they will be able to continue playing. But if they are refused administration and are declared bankrupt, then surely that would be different. Any experts out there?

Fancy making a special edition Beautiful South for this game Daren? With 28,000 Saints fans there I reckon you'd make a killing!

OK I may have forgotten something really simple, but what are you two on about?

It was a fanzine that Daren used to do. Always had some well written stuff in it, but also some very funny stuff too.

Don't worry we're not referring to the band

Watched the draw live, so to speak. It was a bit surreal, the numbers disappearing until no.1 was left. We've gotta win this one! It'll be a sell out and we are on a roll.

Me too. Watched it live on ITV, hoping we would come out with a home game. As the balls were disappearing, the probability of a match v Pompey increased.

When it's was down to 2 balls left, screamed out to my son to 'get up here' we're gonna get Pompey'. Delighted we got called first! Home game.

I think - finally - we're ready for them. All teasing, joking and name-calling aside, until a month ago, they would still have hammered us. Now ... I think we now have a team that can compete with a Prem side. We've trained, we've buffed up, we've improved the side, we're ready for the auld enemy. Bring it on. This could go either way, and I'm happy with that.

With the arse going out could we have an outside chance of being the first third tier team to win the cup?

This tie is our 'Cup Final'. Just look at the Premiership teams left:

Fulham / Wigan

Chelsea

Bolton / Tottenham

Man City / Stoke

Wolves / Villa

Any one of those could tear us apart. Let's enjoy it while we can.

I doubt if they need reminding. I would imagine that by our standards, the Saints dressing room nowadays exhibits a level of positivity that we can only dream about.

A few questions:

1. Has anyone else fallen in love with Mrs. Bobby Moore? Seems like a nice lady and picked the right ball out at the end.

2. Which players will have left Pomp%y by Feb 13th?

3. What happens if they fold? Do we go straight to the quarters?

One worry I have on the "what if they go bust" scenario.

Who was the last club to go pop in the middle of a season? I can't remember it was either Maidstone or Aldershot I think, but I am sure that all their League results were then "expunged".

Is there a chance that if they do go, then Sunderland could be re-instated?

Jeez that would be a let-down.

The OB will probably ask for a 6 o clock Monday morning ko :p

It certainly isn't going to be one for the faint hearted, that's for sure.

Hope it is the match (and our resounding win) that will be the main talking point, but somehow doubt it very much :(

Hoping it is a Sunday TV game, and that somebody out here shows it

LOL at all the people who said stuff the JPT and FA Cup and play a reserve team .... bet they are falling over themselves to get tickets now ;)

How can they possibly have braging rights beating a team 2 divisions below them, they only get bragging rights if we let them.

Sing if were winning, sing if were losing

Cheer for ours, boo for theirs - win or lose , we can still 'win this' by having a party no matter what, I just wanted one last chance to sing them a song before they dissapear.

I nearly crashed the ar when I heard, I was on the way home from a weekend in Southampton and my other halfs mum phoned thinking we might get drawn against her team West Brom. When she said she got Reading I didnt know how many were left in but knew it could be our derby.

Went mental and woke up all the kids in the back when she said lol.

Cant wait for this one and I bet every single poopy player let out a little "oh no" when they knew they would be facing our boys. Not for the fact that we may be a better team but because it would mean so much more to them if they lose. We are in a win win situation as even if we lose we are still on the up and will soon be passing them. If we win however it will be a massive blow to them and there 3 supporters.

I bet the training ground is buzzing today and I hope the players are all busting a nut to be a part of this game and the future of SFC!

:D

I'm totally relaxed about some of my gate money going to Pompy - well worth it to see the local derby and the opportunity to win a game that will be the biggest so far this season. This is why the abuse that some people heap on our local rivals is hard to understand because without them, games like this could never happen. To win now, while Pompy are in the Prem and we are in Div 1 will be a milestone in Saint's history that will mean more than all our other victories over them.
