Quite like Beglin, think he talks a lot of sense, as does Birtles.

Think Merson is amusing, value for money.

Motson wins this catagory hands down, should have hung his mike up years ago. gets easily confused by players, can spot who is who so he just says "oooh..." i could do that

rant alert!

- the idiot who introduces on ITV - He can't say more than.....three words....at a time....without pausing....for no....reason.

Mark 'that wasn't handball, it was his chest' Bright - he thought Pompey were robbed in the cup - idiot.

Shearer - great goalscorer, sorry mate, bit boring on the box, and do I care what striking legend Robbie Earle thinks about anything?

Commentators everywhere - 'that wasn't malicious, he's not that type of player' - sorry guys you are in for a shock here - he IS that type of player as he just stamped on/elbowed another player and anyone who has played the game at any level knows that he DID mean it.

Example yesterday - Stoke player was fouled but left his trailing foot in to catch the sliding defender with his studs, we've all done it - accident? Yeah right.

When will commentators get some basic understanding of the game and the laws?

'That was a late offside flag' - yes, that'll be because he wasn't offside until he went to the ball.

'But he got the ball' - mmm, he tackled from behind, caught both legs, scissored him to the ground and at some point near the end of the assault the ball happened to clip his knee-high studs.

Idiots - most of them, but I let Stuart Hall off because he's entertaining and just a bit mad.

Where is football's answer to Bill McLaren? - a proper legend.

Rant over.

Commentators who inject far too much subplot into a game as opposed to telling us whats going on get on my tits, usually it's someone from ITV..

Lawro and Taylor are no way **** pundits, they say what they think and explain why they think it, it's the deadwood like Earle, Redknapp, Keown and Dixon who just peddle out the same lines every week even hansen has gone off the boil, i remember him being an excellent pundit, now he just goes through the motions.

John Hartson's quite good too which i was surprised at as i cynically thought ITV reeled him out reasons other than his now obviously good pundit skills.

They all have little or no knowledge of the laws of the game that they earn a great deal of money from - Alan Hansen claimed that accidental handball on the line should be a red card, and Gordon Strachan showed an amazing ignorance of the offside law during Euro 2008.

They are also too scared to say anything even remotely controversial in case they offend someone who then refuses to be interviewed. Football could do with someone like the rugby pundit Brian Moore who may be a bit opinionated (but isn't that what he's there for?) but tells it as he sees it. I remember him talking about a player being upset at being subbed - "I don't know why he's surprised 'cos he played crap". That's what I want to hear from a pundit rather than the usual bland "He'll be disappointed with that".

Just having a run through in my mind of all the likely candidates, and to be honest they're all a bit poor. Most of them seem to like the sound of their voice, because they go on and on. I'd rather see more football action. This man knew:

Try about 3m 15s in, if you want to skip.

Or if it's worst of all time - Gerry Harrison the Anglian TV area 'football correspondent'

Talking taxed him, football knowledge didn't touch his consciousness & he had the most annoying voice! Got that off my chest so here's another...

Bobby Slaphead Charlton! Watching the evening before run up to the '76 Final (bless you Legless - RIP!) he predicted a 6-0 result to Docherty's team when the other two were predicting the odd goal in three...& then the tw*t got a job on the pools panel!!!!!

Legendary nothing...I've never forgiven him that...he probably wondered briefly why the long haired git was screaming abuse at him outside Old Toilet in the early eighties but I felt better afterwards!

The wife gave me a DVD of the 76 cup final, i could not believe how biased Charlton and Bobby Moore were against us. Also the main comentator for ITV talks some real rubbish, in fact ITV are just in love with the top teams and could not give a dam about the rest

Think you're on about Brian Moore there [not former England captain, Bobby, and not the ex-rugby Brian either] who, nice bloke that he was, was IMO, an even worse football commentator than John Motson, and that's really saying something. I've always noticed Jack and Bobby Charlton's bias, whenever they've been called upon to give an opinion. Their slant on things is often unique to them because all they can see is their team, and their region, whoever they played for and supported. Southampton was like a foreign land to them, and hence of no consequence.

Andy Gray, who seems able only to state the bleedin` obvious and who constantly says, "I have to say." No you don`t. You`re a twonk. So there.

Snopper, I can always forgive Andy Gray because he often commentated during MLT's better goals. He would heap just praise upon them and never, ever understate their quality. For that contribution alone, he can talk complete bullsh!te for the rest of his days, and he's OK by me. ;)

Still makes me laugh. :D

Andy Gray... Sky Pundit of the highest order it would seem, so quick to always point out what went wrong, how it should be done, how it shouldn't be done, what is right, what is wrong, position this, marking that... and Everton through and through.

However, when offered the Everton job as Manager several years ago when I think Mike Walker was sacked? Was offered the job away from Sky for a much more attractive salary and declined it (Shat it?, bottled it?).

Worried he might have been found out for all of his (Convienient after the match) punditary observations?... I think so, and damn sure that although still opinionated now, he isn't such the arrogant know it all now as much as he professed to be back then before the Everton job offer came along.
