Hi, I am in the process of building a web site for my missus who is trying to start a t shirt business from home cos we need the cash so I can come to more matches at st marys :D

Not many designs on it yet but I'm trying to make it more of a social / fun place rather than just a shop, the designs can come later.

http://www.cats-ass.com

I'd be gratefull if some of you could check it out if you're bored and give me some feedback about it.

Is it great ? is it sh*te ? how can I improve it ?

While you're there, click a couple of the sponsored links cos i get paid for that :p

Thanks for any feedback you give me !

I can strongly recommend renaming some of your filenames - replace all spaces, either with underscores or dashes.

I would also suggest changing the colour scheme. The amount of bright blue overwhelms the page. Use more neutral colours like white and shades of grey for the background, I reckon.

If i'm being honest here, the design is appaling.

It's like i've been warped back to the mid 90's a geocities accounts.

Probably not what you want to hear, but it's best (imo) to be honest about these things.

Agreed... was about to say 'it looks 10 years old' before I even read your reply.

It's simple enough to navigate, but it just looks dated, and, whether you like it or not, no matter how good the t-shirts are, people will be put off by it because it doesn't look professional IMO.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate your honesty :-(

I know what you mean because to a degree it does look dated and once I get it off the ground then I may have to review and redesign the whole site to make it look more professional, it will give me something to do between matches :-)

Thanks again dudes !

I agree with the other posters below about the design. It's really dated and far, far too busy.

But I'd also like to say that I think you've got a good name there and I also like the look of the logo too.

It's edgy and should be able to be used to attract a certain type of client. The downside of the name and logo is that it will, IMO, tend to close some doors to you. So if I were you, I'd exploit the name and the audience it will attract.

Some ideas...

I'd start from looking at who will buy from cat's ass. What sort of person is your customer? Why will they buy from you? Why are you different from other t-shirt vendors? What problem are you looking to solve for your customer? What does wearing a cat's ass t-shirt say about them to their friends?

Then use the answer to these questions to design your site to communicate that small set of messages over and over again in a very simply way.

If your target audience is, for argument's sake, 17-23 year old males in the UK. Then look at the design of sites that this segment of the market frequent visit and try to make your site feel more like these. Use language and terminology that they will feel comfortable with.

This looks like a well thought our competitor's site

What is the one thing you want your target audience to do when they are on your site? I'm guessing it's buy a t-shirt (although at present this isn't clear). And if that's the case relegate all the stuff about competitions, guest books and forums to a less prominent place on the page (if at all).

I'd consider using a small copy of the logo as (optional) branding on your t-shirts too. Perhaps very small at the base of the rear of the t-shirt?

Lastly think about what your visitor will be looking to achieve AFTER they have visited your site. I would bet that most people that buy novelty t-shirts are not looking to just keep warm. I would imagine that they are they looking to shock and surprise their friends. Perhaps they're looking for something to wear on a stag night or looking for an outrageous gift for a friend. If you show you understand what your visitor is looking for AFTER they've purchased from you they will feel more comfortable buying from you.

Good luck.

Lol, I take the criticisms with good heart and to be fair it has made me take a good look at my site design and you are right, it needs to be brightened up and made fresher. It is a work in progress and very early days so perhaps I have rushed into it a bit to get the site up and now is the time to evaluate its look. Seems I have some work to do !

Saint Bletch .. some very good, reasoned advice there, thank you.

Paul Saint .. the Cats Ar$eholes made me lol big time, love it :)

Yes the designs are a bit tacky but those are just a few that I have put up there so I can work out how the Pay Pal automated system works. I'm saving my best designs for when I'm ready to launch properly.

Thanks again for the feedback
