St.Patrik Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 And no news on Saints Twitter about this signing. On OS first like they promised : ) Now lets see who the midfielder is please....
S-Clarke Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 is he better than Patterson? at the moment, yes. Barnard is a proven player at this level (has scored double figures at this level for the past 2 years) and is at a good age. Patto may turn into that - but who knows? he's not quite ready for us. He's still got alot to prove to be compared with barnard.
thorpie the sinner Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 And no news on Saints Twitter about this signing. On OS first like they promised : ) Now lets see who the midfielder is please.... Garvan, stock, danns, take your pick!!! Oh, sod, it, lets get all three lol
S-Clarke Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 ''he has scored 37 goals in 69 starts'' - nice ratio there.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Lambert, Conolly, Barnard, Waigo, Antonio, Saga, Lallana Surely the best forward options outside the prem?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 I like it how Leeds were after him and we signed him. F*ck you Leeds.
S-Clarke Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 I like it how Leeds were after him and we signed him. F*ck you Leeds. he rejected leeds - even better.
alpine_saint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 he rejected leeds - even better. Would you want to live in Leeds, capital of NorthernMonkeyLand ?
Rebel Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Not sure he was worth the money and Paterson in the long run. He doesn't have the pace we so desperately need either. Still in the short term he can play tomorrow (I think) - and he will be an alternative to playing Lambert every game.
S-Clarke Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Would you want to live in Leeds, capital of NorthernMonkeyLand ? fair point tbf.
trousers Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Looking at his stats on Wiki, he hardly ever played a first team game for his previous sides (mainly loans from spurs). What suddenley made him prolific at Southend? Anyway, good signing.
S-Clarke Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Not sure he was worth the money and Paterson in the long run. He doesn't have the pace we so desperately need either. Still in the short term he can play tomorrow (I think) - and he will be an alternative to playing Lambert every game. he's a snip! 175k for a player who has hit 17 goals this year (14 last year). still can't get over how cheap he was tbh.
brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Get in, might even add a few ticket sales for tomorrows game, a clear sign of intention from Saints management over the last couple of weeks of where we want to be..
Chez Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 he's a snip! 175k for a player who has hit 17 goals this year (14 last year). still can't get over how cheap he was tbh. He would have been free in June. Also its £175k + Patterson.
northam soul Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Good signing now please Mr P a good centre midfield player and we will be ecstatic.
Arizona Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 he's a snip! 175k for a player who has hit 17 goals this year (14 last year). still can't get over how cheap he was tbh. And if he scores the winner tomorrow it gets us £90k in prize money alone.
Thedelldays Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 nice one.. what sort of striker is he..? more of a big player or a nippy one..? with antonio and waigo we already have options to have real pace at the top of the formation..
Tom28 Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Does the 2 and a half year deal suggest that Pardew thinks he can do a job for us in this league, and possibly in the Championship, but doesn't have the quality to step up to Premiership level? As far as I'm concerned thats fine - if we got him for £175k (plus Patterson), its a punt worth taking. Good signing.
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Do you think there will be some strings to the Patterson deal ? Ie first dibs if he turns into the complete striker in the next couple of years, or a large sell on ?? Either way looks good business for the play off push....Just that dominating center mid to go then !!
Matthew Le God Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 if we got him for £175k (plus Patterson), its a punt worth taking. Southend OS says Paterson was a separate deal, so not a part exchange.
sussexsaint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Excellent Well done AP/NC and TacTics;) Midfielder now please Stock or similar and we may just push for that playoff spot
Chez Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Southend OS says Paterson was a separate deal, so not a part exchange. I know but it must have been tied in somehow otherwise why didn't we simply loan him to them?
The9 Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Here's the a link that proves he's not cuptied, anyway : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/8340964.stm Didn't play as Southend lost 3-0 to Gillingham in FA Cup Round 1. Have to say I wouldn't object to us resting Lambert tomorrow, I don't really care if we win or not.
The Saturday Boy Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 He can play against Ipswich, I beleive. Yep, it's confirmed in the OS article that he is available for Ipswich.
saints_is_the_south Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Very good signing. Should mean Lambert can get a much needed rest. We now have a very very good looking squad. If we can a midfielder in, Stock or Danns perhaps & move a few players on now it will be a perfect transfer window. If we can get rid of Lancashire, Molyneux, Gillett, Pulis & Saga our squad will look something like this: GK: Davis, Bart, Forecast RB: Murty, Ostemobor LB: Harding, Mills CB: Fonte, Jaidi, Seaborne, Perry, Thomas RM: Antonio, Papa LM: Holmes CM: Schneiderlin, Wotton, Hammond, James AM: Lallana ST: Lambert, Barnard, Connolly
Andy_Porter Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 nice one.. what sort of striker is he..? more of a big player or a nippy one..? with antonio and waigo we already have options to have real pace at the top of the formation.. From what I've read about him he's like Lambert-lite just with added work rate.
Matthew Le God Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 I know but it must have been tied in somehow otherwise why didn't we simply loan him to them? Because with Barnard joining he is a long way from ever starting for Saints. If he was included in the deal the transfer fee would come down. Southend wouldn't bother saying it was a separate deal if it wasn't.
miserableoldgit Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Excellent Well done AP/NC and TacTics;) Midfielder now please Stock or similar and we may just push for that playoff spot TacTics is the dogs!!
Matthew Le God Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 From what I've read about him he's like Lambert-lite just with added work rate. He is about 5 inches shorter and a very different sort of player.
instinct Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Great signing, sounds like he will definitely improve the squad
alehouseboys Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Yep, it's confirmed in the OS article that he is available for Ipswich. That's not fair if he's just signed for us......
Wes Tender Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Good signing. Welcome to the Saints, Lee. This is a good statement of intent from us. We can now rotate between Connolly, Lambert and Barnard, still retaining some decent quality up front and allowing for injuries or suspensions. We just need that midfield playmaker/General and we will just about have the complete set-up.
The9 Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 (edited) what number is he..? Would be surprised if he didn't take over Paterson's number which was 17, failing that the lowest available one is 41, which is frankly rrrrrubbish. Hold on, who is/was number 27? Oh yeah, Jamie White. Edited 22 January, 2010 by The9
Bucks Saint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 He is about 5 inches shorter and a very different sort of player. So he will start scoring goals for fun straightaway after joining us? Even better
