I watch from home and couldn't work out if it was "pay up pompey, pompey pay up" or "wind up pompey, pompey wind up" Personally I think both are very good

pay up pompey

pay up pompey

and loads of us waving £10 and £20 notes in the air. Anyone know what the row of lads waving their shoes in the air were singing and the relevance to the shoes.

Would be more obviously different to 'play up pompey' if a different choice of replacement word was used rather than 'pay'. Otherwise it just sounds the same as the opposing team's supporters singing 'play up pompey' to wind us up....well, that's how it comes across on TV anyway, which I assume was the intended audience?

I was there and joined in with the chant - funny stuff - although did think at the time that it might come across on TV as the opposition fans winding us up!

That was definitely not the case - didn't hear a peep out of them all game! Saints won the battle both on the pitch and off!

Isn't it the ultimate insult to an Arab to show him/her the soles of your shoes? In which case it was a very clever way of insulting our 'friends' owners ... well done who ever thought of it!

Agreed, not a great song. Much prefer the "Pompeys going down with no money in the bank" one.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, a lot were saying the relevance was to Sol Campbell but that was too tenuous for me.

Just can't stand anything that sounds like those bells that didn't work for donkeys years.

Exactly, don't know why any Saints fan would enjoy singing a song that sounds like that sh**te!

We were singing "Shoes off if you love the Saints, shoes off if you love the Saints......"

Very amusing - nothing to do with the Arabs at Pompey I'm afraid

Seems a bit too remote a link there, showing your soles to insult arabs.

Sure it was not more like a group of saps copying Luton ?

That would have involved showing their 'r.soles' rather than anything to do with shoes.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they were just copying the Luton fans.

I've seen kids doing it at Salisbury. "Shoes off if you loves salisbury"

I doubt that its got anything to do with Pompey's owners

Both got an airing. Pay Up first.

Wind up is definately the better of the two. 'Pay up', was first sung by Arsenal fans, sounds far too much like 'Play up', and doesn't have a the same double meaning that 'Wind up' does.

Also, in three weeks time it'd be great to be able to sing 'Wound up' :)

Talking of away chants, did I hear some muppets sing WHU Bubbles song at Millwall. Very, very wrong.

You did :(

Shameful - singing the song of the rivals of the team you're playing is on a par with ringing a bell and chanting wordless dirges all game.

Fratton Park is falling down, falling down, falling down,

Fratton Park is falling down, poor old pompey.

Build it up with dodgy Arabs, dodgy Arabs, dodgy, Arabs

Build it up with dodgy Arabs, poor old pompey.

On the subject of chants, what are the words to that song with the line "this is the worst trip I've ever been on"? Also "take me home, to St. Mary's ..............." they could even be part of the same song...????

Pretty embarassing, just like when we get 'play up Pompey' or 'one Harry Redknapp' it's hardly original just lame.
