Ipswich Build-up

WTF is wrong with the saints fans, it's the fourth round and if we win we'll almost definately face a big team , i hope we get a big walkup on the day, I don't know about other people but I think the FA cup is more important than the JPT, its the biggest domestic cup competition in the world and we have a chance of making it to fifth round which is good for a league 1 team, come on saints fans !

Just been creating a "cup-tied" list. Of the signings/loan returnees/extensions since July :

Cup-tied :

Seaborne, Fonte, Martin, Otsemobor, Poo-lis.

Available (if fit) :

Barnard, Gillett, McLaggon, Antonio, Gobern, Lambert, Harding, Lancashire, Hammond, Jaidi, Murty.

(White, Poke and Thomson are also cup-tied but not available for selection anyway). Might have missed some out, hopefully not.

Speak for yourself, I've got a trip to Tranmere already planned and paid for on the date of the 6th Round...

...and what exactly is the attraction of getting to Round 5 and being patronised by the national media and their inaccurate reporting anyway ?

20,000 is a bloody good attendance against a mediocre Championship side.

Reading Ipswich fans' views, they seem to think that whilst they're lacking any major threat upfront, their midfield is very strong and has the potential to completely dominate games and score goals as a consequence. If these opinions are accurate then, judging by who we have available to us in midfield, I think we'll really struggle. Don't think it'll be a thrashing, but a loss.

What we don't need is a draw and another game to fit in.

We wont get thrashed by Ipswich, the midfield we put out will play just be really negative just like Millwall, two banks of four no real penetration on our part and lots of hoofballs up to Lambery and Barnard.

Probably the best idea considering all our injuries, try and nick a goal on the counter or from a setpiece.

As long as we go in at half time 0-0 i'm reasonably confident that Antonio or Waigo coming on for the last 20-25 minutes can cause them problems.

True, I'm just not sure if centre midfield of just Wotton and James will be able to sustain the pressure. Hopefully they will, or if not Jaidi and Fonte should be able to handle it.

I hope we can deal with the pressure, will need to defend well and everyone will need to put in a proper shift.

No reason why we can't beat Ipswich at home, it just won't be easy with so many players out. It's the sort of game we could have really done with Connolly, we won't get many chances and i'd much rather our chances fell for him than anyone else.

Team line ups according to the Grauniad

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/22/squad-sheets-southampton-ipswich-town

As ever, 3-1 Saints

Connolly is injured so won't start....lallana will start up top with lambert and holmes will be at left mid. Thomas will be at RB - Jaidi in at CB to Partner perry, and mills (who isnt and never will be a RB) will not play if harding is fit.

but other than that, spot on by them!

We can do this. Their top goal scorer is on 6. Their defence is shaky. If James and Wotton can do an outstanding job today the result will be ours, but that will be the difference as their strength is in their midfield. It would not surprise me to see Barnie and Connolly start (to give Lambo a rest) with Antonio and Holmes on the wings. Hopefully we will see Harding back. So team could be....

Davis

Thomas Jaidi Perry Harding

Antonio James Wotton Holmes

Barnie Connolly

Bench: Lambo (or possibly Saga), Mills, Bart, Gobern, Lancs

I think Connolly is still injured? EDIT: Should feature according to the BBC website. If true, that team looks good.

Not really sure if I am bothered about this game really but as I am going up to the Ipswich area next weekend I suppose we better win.

Jaidi in for Fonte

Harding for Mills if better

Then no idea because Pardew will have another little tinker with the midfield and attack

I don't think we should rest Lambo tbh, I think he's looked better and stronger in these last few games than he was before Christmas. If he's tired, give him a couple of days off before the games instead of training, we need him up front today. I'd preferably line up like:

------------Davis------------

Thomas--Perry--Jaidi--Harding

--------James---Lallana------

Antonio----------------Holmes

--------Barnie--Lambert------

Subs: Bart, Martin, Wotton, Mills, Waigo, Connolly, Saga

A very attacking bench because I firmly believe that we can put a few past Ipswich. They've got a very poor defensive record and although they've not lost in 15 or something like that, I reckon we can still do 'em today with L&B up front.

COYR!

Why do they have Forecast on the bench? Also Fonte is cup-tied so also unlikely to be on the bench. As you say, spot on by the Grauniad as usual, not. Still at least they spelled Seaborne correctly.

I would agree with that, but it could easily be a mullahing.

Looking forward to the game. All I want to see is a good performance, I am not hugely bothered if we win or lose for one as we have bigger fish to fry. The last result we want is a draw so I think it will be an entertaining high scoring game (cue 0-0 bore draw!).

Shame we are missing a few, but as we are under absolutely no pressure so I think this will be an intesresting test to see how far we have come with the squad we have.

I agree, BUT we are never gonna get anywhere near wembley, we already have one foot on the turf in the JPT.

We get no points for playing these games and an injury to the likes of Lambert will kiss good bye to our playoff ambitions, however slim they are.

I would only give a sh*t about the FA cup if we get a decent day out to someone like Arsenal, other than that, don't care this year.

Although this has been lessened somewhat surely with the Barnard purchase.

He was our best player against MK Dons, got a goal and played 2 brilliant through balls

Technically he was carp, he won't unsettle ipswich like he did a very poor league 1 back line (they looked crap when they played at St Marys, that doumbe or whatever is the only decent one)

If he starts, he will get slagged of for being dump today. Leave him on bench until they tire.

Yeah i agree, though i still think the way we play our best football relies on Lambo making a mess out of the oppositions back line.

I would like to be proved wrong tho !

Happy if Lambo is on the bench today, but then TBF our next two league games shouldn't be too testing.
