CWD Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Jaidi is back but Seaborne, Fonte, Otsemebor, Hammond, Morgan and Connolly are all out. Could be a mauling. I guess we'll line up something like this: Davis Thomas - Perry - Jaidi - Harding Antonio - James - Wotton - Holmes Lambert - Lallana
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 I don't think we'll win but I don't think it will be a mauling.
Wes Tender Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Jaidi is back but Seaborne, Fonte, Otsemebor, Hammond, Morgan and Connolly are all out. Could be a mauling. I guess we'll line up something like this: Davis Thomas - Perry - Jaidi - Harding Antonio - James - Wotton - Holmes Lambert - Lallana Is Connolly definitely out? The Physio report said that he was 50/50 for the Millwall match last Saturday, so he could possibly feature, at least as a substitute. That gives options of Lallana in midfield. Papa could also play a role up front. Mills could also deputise for Holmes and Gobern Saga and Paterson are further options for the bench. I think that the team you suggest is possibly the best option apart from having Connolly up front if fit, but whereas a mauling is possible, so is it possible that we might maul them with that team. It's the FA Cup, so anything is possible.
SuperMikey Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 When we were drawn against Ipswich I was very happy because I thought this was a very winnable tie, but now with our injuries and suspensions i'm not so sure. We're missing a couple of key, key players in Schneiderlin and Hammond, and other players like Otsemobor, Fonte and Connolly. While i'm not so sure we'll win, I wouldn't be too upset if we lost, because Ipswich are starting to improve now under Keano and they have still got a lot of quality in the side. I'd rather see the team turn their focuses on the JPT and the league, because I feel that these are more important and more achievable goals this season. Maybe next season we can look at having a decent cup run, but for now I think we have other more pressing matters at hand. I'd play: ------------Davis------------ Thomas--Jaidi--Perry--Harding -----------Wotton----------- --------James--Lallana------- Antonio----------------Holmes -----------Lambert----------- Subs: Bart, Martin, Mills, Gobern, Waigo, Saga, McLaggon (if he's back from his loan)
markr27 Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 I think if there's any doubt over Connolly, save him for Brentford on Tues night.
The Godfather Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Is Jaidi definately back? I just assumed he was still out with his eye injury.
Nexstar Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Can see Roy Keane wanting to concentrate on the league, but we do have a lot of players out. I think it will be 1-1 and add to our ever-growing mid-week fixture list.
CWD Posted 21 January, 2010 Author Posted 21 January, 2010 Daily echo twitter confirmed that Jaidi is fit and Connolly deffo out. Apologies for the OP, mauling was the wrong word - just was a little horrified at how many first team players we had out!
Wes Tender Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Daily echo twitter confirmed that Jaidi is fit and Connolly deffo out. Ah! A brilliant piece of kidology to wrong foot Keano's matchday preparation, eh?

Yes but the echo often it puts the proposed team in the paper and it includes players that are suspende or confirmed injured and unavailable.
St Marco Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Nice to see the return of the Jaidi (queue Star Wars music) I would go for this ------------Davis--------- Thomas---Perry---Jaidi---Harding(if recovered, if not Mills) --------------------------------- --------Wotten---James--------- Antonio-------------------Waigo--- -------------Lallana--------------- -------------Lambert-------------- Let Lallana have the free roaming role. The two wingers will have speed on their side so could get in behind their back line. One thing is for sure James will need to be on his game as will have to be the playmaker and the guy who runs back to defend due to Wotten's speed.
corsacar saint Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Tough game, they are not losing many games now.
Arizona Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Bart Thomas - Perry - Jaidi - Harding Antonio - Wotton - James - Holmes Lambert - Lallana Subs: Davis, Mills, Martin, Waigo, Saga
krissyboy31 Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Bart Thomas - Perry - Jaidi - Harding Antonio - Wotton - James - Holmes Lambert - Lallana Subs: Davis, Mills, Martin, Waigo, Saga I think Martin is cup-tied.
Dalek2003 Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Interesting that people mention Saga. Is he worth a punt. Can't see anyone come in for him and he may have had a change in attitude.
Arizona Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Interesting that people mention Saga. Is he worth a punt. Can't see anyone come in for him and he may have had a change in attitude. He got onto the bench last night ahead of options such as Gobern or Paterson, so you'd assume he has done something to impress Pardew in training. If this is the case it will be interesting to see if he gets on the pitch and what he does when he gets there.

If this is the case it will be interesting to see if he gets on the pitch and what he does when he gets there. If he could rekindle his real form and show real intent it could be like having a new signing. mind you, when does Saga's contract end, he could be making a cynical pitch for an extension.
trousers Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Interesting that people mention Saga. Is he worth a punt. Can't see anyone come in for him and he may have had a change in attitude. Indeed. Was just about to post that we have a vitally important league game away to Brentford on Tuesday so we need to rest the likes of Lambert on Saturday. Playing our best players 3 times in one week when it is still mathematically possible to reach the playoffs is foolhardy IMHO. So, Saga in, Lambert on the bench for me.
Arizona Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 I wouldn't rest players for this one. Especially as Ipswich at home is easily winnable and going further in this cup will earn us large amounts of cash. If are best players are fit, they should play.
SFC Forever Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Sorry but if the Dons game has taken its' toll i can see Ipswich winning with a modicum of ease. If not we could surprise them. Though they probably allsaw the game to check on us.
Joesaint Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 I have a feeling Lambert may not play and will be rested after reading what AP has said on the OS. COYS

Joesaint Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Well done, so you think we may play saga with papa maybe? I would love it if saga played and knew that he has to give it his all to have any chance of playing more he does have a great boot on him as we all know just went ****. COYS

Arizona Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Cup? With you there! COYR  Summit like that. Been up since 4am. :smt015
sperm_john Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 so who actually thinks we are gonna beat ipswich???
Um Bongo Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 My Team: Bart Thomas Jaidi Perry Mills Antonio James Wotton Lallana Barnard Waigo Maybe Holmes on the left with James, Wotton & Lallana in the middle, Barnard up top.
Arizona Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 My Team: Bart Thomas Jaidi Perry Mills Antonio James Wotton Lallana Barnard Waigo Maybe Holmes on the left with James, Wotton & Lallana in the middle, Barnard up top. The problem with starting Waigo and Bonio is that you then don't have much impact from the bench.
greg_hill Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Anyone recall a certain incident with Mr Keane on the day we were relegated from the Prem? Did we ever really thank him for that? Knocking Ipswich out of the cup could be a good start!
Colinjb Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 My team: ----------------- Davis ---------------- Thomas --- Jaidi -------- Perry ---- Mills Waigo ---- Wotton ---- James --- Holmes ---------- Barnard ---- Lambert ---------
Arizona Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Anyone recall a certain incident with Mr Keane on the day we were relegated from the Prem? Did we ever really thank him for that? Knocking Ipswich out of the cup could be a good start! If it were at Portman Road, we could all take a dump on his car. Sadly we will have to make do with knocking Ipswich out.
Andy_Porter Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 The problem with starting Waigo and Bonio is that you then don't have much impact from the bench. Lambert and Holmes on the bench who can both change the game. I'd start them both every single game.

Knocking Ipswich out of the cup could be a good start! And he was giving it large after that Sunderland game. He hates us, probably because after we beat United 6-3 he took all the blame.
The Godfather Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 so who actually thinks we are gonna beat ipswich??? Not me.
Andy_Porter Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 If we had Fonte, Connolly, Schneiderlin and Hammond available I'd think we'd have a great chance. Without them I think we're going to lose by a goal or two.
Matthew Le God Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Having just watched the pre match Manager interview on Saints Player if I were a betting man then I would say Oscar Gobern has a good chance of starting the Ipswich game.
The Godfather Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 Can see Roy Keane wanting to concentrate on the league, but we do have a lot of players out. I think it will be 1-1 and add to our ever-growing mid-week fixture list. Ipswich will put out their strongest team just as they did in the last round at Blackpool. Expect Stern John to play.
warsash saint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Any result but a draw required. A win will be nice buy won't be sheding any tears if we lose.
Master Bates Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 OMG, Roy Keane in todays Echo speaking nicely about us! Shocking stuff.
saints_is_the_south Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 My team: ----------------- Davis ---------------- Thomas --- Jaidi -------- Perry ---- Mills Waigo ---- Wotton ---- James --- Holmes ---------- Barnard ---- Lambert --------- +1.
South Londoner Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Ipswich have only lost 1 in 9 apparently. Anything but a draw, please.
krissyboy31 Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 My team: ----------------- Davis ---------------- Thomas --- Jaidi -------- Perry ---- Mills Waigo ---- Wotton ---- James --- Holmes ---------- Barnard ---- Lambert --------- I think if Barnard is signed (in time) Lambert will be rested. Apart from that I'd go with that team. Antonio, literally ran himself into the ground on Wednesday and Lallana could also do with the rest, in preparation for the Brentford game.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Keane watched us at MK Dons and doesn't class us as a League One side. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4865450.Keane_glad_he_spied_on_Saints/?ref=twt&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_term=saintsfc,+southampton

JRM Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Good that John Stead is suspended and Richard Wright and their other keeper are out, never heard of Arran Barrett-Lee but he doesn't sound like he'd be a good keeper!
doddisalegend Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Thier top scorer this season only has 6(!?) goals and he's still banned for saturday. An Ipswhich fan on 606 said that they have a very good midfield a poor defence and a strikers who can't score. We on the other hand seem to have no probleming scoring, have a makeshift midfield and a defence that can't keep a clean sheet. Tactics for saturday then are to bypass midfield with loads of hoofball maybe we should play 6-0-5 as a formation:p. to be honest I like us to field our strongest side. Playoffs are an illusion this year so lets go as far as we can in the cups I think. Also I'm going on saturday and I hate watching us lose.
VectisSaint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Ipswich have only lost 1 in 9 apparently. Anything but a draw, please. Depends when the replay would be, could mean that Spiderman's suspension could include the replay rather than a league game. Also that Hammond would miss less league matches. Maybe that a replay could be a blessing in disguise.
StuRomseySaint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Just over 17k sold so far which includes 2850 Ipswich. So looking at 20k, not bad for a pretty meaningless game, I think alot of people are focused on JPT and League.
The9 Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Keane watched us at MK Dons and doesn't class us as a League One side. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4865450.Keane_glad_he_spied_on_Saints/?ref=twt&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_term=saintsfc,+southampton Well we already knew he was a bit thick. He also claims to have watched Saints on Wednesday and said we played "really well", which is an interesting spin on things, cos I thought we were predominantly a bit gash, hoofing it and not creating much, timewasting mostly and without looking too troubled.
