Thedelldays Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 Well plenty of people who were at the game last night care. Many people enjoy a game with a decent atmosphere far more than they do when the game is played in a ground that isn't even a third-full. well...part and parcel of lower league football really... shurlock Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 (edited) the world cup bid is for the whole city...not the stadium.. the stadium made up about 1 chapter from about 20 of a city bid not too sure that you had to have a full house every week to have the right to host a world cup game..? They have the best stadium in the division. Totally wasted on them. Many grounds get decent atmospheres in L1, even if crowds are small because the stadiums are smaller and so fuller. It is really a 32k stadium but with 22k seats fitted atm. They want to make it over 40k for the Would Cup when current average attendance is 10k. saintpat Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 Having been a regular attendee at basketball in MK for the last 10 years I was surprised by the lack of crowd at the game but not particularly at the lack of passion. It takes a fantastic game of basketball for the fans to even once get off their feet and I've given up attempting to get the fans on their feet when the team runs out. I think many MK sports fans have no appreciation of what a good atmosphere can add to a sporting event and prefer to sit on their hands. Perhaps they will learn- but it will take a few years more. Saint Samuel Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 I was at the game and there support was non existant, i heard a drum every now and again I watched the start of the game i recorded when i got in and at the start our fans are singing 'your support is.................' and it cuts to Peter Winkleman and i'm sure he turns to the bloke next to him and says 'There right' and it seems they are not happy with the way we celebrated at the end of the game. Our fans running on the pitch was stupid and to be fair our players were trying to get them of the pitch. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4862672.Dons_critical_of_Saints_celebrations/ and the way we celebrated was nothing compared to Billy Davies and Derby in play-off semi of 2007! Our players didn't do anything wrong, to get support like that for a midweek televised game was great, all the players were doing was acknowledging the fans by showing their appreciation. JustMike Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 I've never been so disgusted with a clubs supporters. We thought they had made a mistake and told their fans the wrong kick off time. They don't deserve to have a nice stadium like that. We did well and sung loudly most of the night but it's hard to get a decent atmosphere going when only the away support is singing. Such a shame. Could have been a great night but it was ruined by their plastic stay-aways. sounds familiar
Son of Bob Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 if the fan base is not there..not a great deal theyt can do...you can only imagine it will build over time That's the whole bloody point though. They HAVE got the fanbase. They have averaged over 10,000 this season (At least 9,000 of which will be home fans) and have even managed over 16,000 for one league game so the it obviously is there. Just a shame none of them turned up to watch their team last night. Under 4,000 is pathetic and ruined what could have been a real party atmosphere and a special occasion. Instead it was an average game of football, played in front of an empty stadium with the atmosphere of a funeral. End of... For the record Sour, I had a great day out drinking with my mates as well. I was just a shame there wasn't a decent home crowd there to banter with. Why do you think our singing dried up as the game went on?

It does at most away games to be honest, our support isn't as amazing as we think. They do get fairly big home crowds in the league, but a lot of those are free tickets or people with not much else to do, have a look on their own website and they even admit they don't have the same hardcore support as a team like us. Just confused why anyone would expect any decent support or atmosphere from MK Dons and why the lack of it would spoil their night. Each to their own and all that, may as well leave it there........ saintkiptanui Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 We have the 3rd best support Gheydays. For some strange reason when we are away half the fans don't bother singing and when they do it's the same old Barlow crap, we seem to have a lot of old/young/women at away games this doesn't help, we should ban under12's and over 60's and women from away games except my missus as I like dragging her to rubbish away games. dune Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 Would it be appropriate to run on the pitch if win over the two legs and thus reach a wembley final? I think it would be appropriate, but what i would say is that it'd be a shame if we goaded the MK Dons fans. Just celebrate reaching Wembley. As much as i despise that club for the way they stole Wimbledons place in the FL, their fans don't have an attitude and are a friendly bunch. dune Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 Nope, I thought you were talking about away support for some reason. Our away support is great imo. Numbers wise our away support now is better than it was in our Premiership days. Ignore the following we took to glory clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Ure etc and compare our support to less glamourous games and we are better now than we ever have been. I remember going to places like Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Bolton, Leeds etc and us taking a few hundred. We are now regularly taking thousands. That said the atmosphere created probably isn't as good as it was, but it varies. I thought the atmosphere at MK Dons was pretty good and the fact everyone stood up was very refreshing. Compare that to Colchester away the other week and our fans were rubbish.

Yeah there have been a few away games this season where it has been a bit disappointing, like Swindon, where despite us having about 3000 up there on a Tuesday night, we never got it going. But then again we took 920 to Carlisle and made terrific noise. Places like Charlton we took thousands and made loads of noise. Even Hartlepool, there was what, 500 of us, but we still were louder than the opposing fans. It's brilliant to see us taking thousands to away games. Yeah would be ideal. That means I could stand without having to worry about the people behind me, a few times this season I've had an angry poke in the back and some matey (not even an old matey) telling me to sit down even when about 10 rows in front of me are all standing. Unreserved is the way forward.

Captain_Planet Posted 22 January, 2010 Share Posted 22 January, 2010 Because all of this leads to things that impact on us all. For example the police presence and actions at Millwall on Saturday. It will lead to away allocations being cut when clubs and police say our fans cause issues. I am all for a loud, laddy, atmosphere. I would love a bit more aggression in our support. I want some real songs with more than 2 words. But why they have to try and charge on the pitch and every opportunity is beyond me. You are a very knowledgable supporter, if you had bothered to ask ANY millwall fan they would have confirmed ALL games have that amount of OB....pro rata, of course!
