loughborough_saint Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Also hated seeing Schneiderlin waving imaginary yello card at the linesman in the 1st half - he should get an instant yellow card himself for this. Clearly wasn't asking for a yellow card - no idea why the commentator suggested he was and even less idea why any one else watching couldn't see that the commentator was wrong. How many yellow cards have you seen given out by waving them from side to side? He was asking the lino why he flagged if it was just a throw in!!! Lino flagged for something more then changed his mind (replays suggest lino was correct but Morgabn didn't have that luxury!)
The Godfather Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 We will miss him during his three match ban especially after we severly missed him against dirty Leeds.
Andy_Porter Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 We will miss him during his three match ban especially after we severly missed him against dirty Leeds. Should have enough about us to beat Brentford and Stockport without him, glad he's back for the JPT game. Will miss him a lot tomorrow, we're not going to have much possesion against a Championship side so need to use the ball well when we do get it and he's our best passer of the ball.
Red&White Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 Frustrating decision from the ref as the other guy (Gleeson?) was hardly blameless, but if you have a ref who has been poor all game, why give him the chance to make another poor decision, with a tame shove. Not clever. Also hated seeing Schneiderlin waving imaginary yello card at the linesman in the 1st half - he should get an instant yellow card himself for this. :smt023

I was critical of James' display at Leeds in the middle, but he played a lot better up at Franchise, so hopefully he can carry that into this game.
Andy_Porter Posted 22 January, 2010 Posted 22 January, 2010 I hope so, his future is in the middle imo. He's another player who looks a lot better in our 4--5-1.
Saint_John Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 The Echo have just reported that we have appealed his 3 match ban. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4870091.Saints_appeal_Schneiderlin_red_card/ If you go to the FA web site it is now reported at a ONE MATCH BAN http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/Disciplinary/SuspensionLists.aspx Southampton FC Morgan Schneiderlin 20/01/2010 Suspended from all football until the Club have completed 1 first team match for a Sending Off in a match played on 20/01/2010.

Whitey Grandad Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 ****ing ace if true Of course, if the appeal is held to be 'frivolous' it could be extended to 4 games...
John B Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 (edited) Well thats very good it did seem unfair at the time although probably a correct decision by the ref Edited 25 January, 2010 by John B
Pancake Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Of course, if the appeal is held to be 'frivolous' it could be extended to 4 games... I know that, but if - as hinted at on the FA website - it has been reduced to 1 match then it is "****ing ace"
Window Cleaner Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 I know that, but if - as hinted at on the FA website - it has been reduced to 1 match then it is "****ing ace" strange that, it definitely said 3 first team matches last Thursday.
Window Cleaner Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Well thats very good it did seem unfair at the time although probably a correct decision at the time by the ref It would have been a correct decision by the ref if he'd sent the other little pr@t off as well. He was inconsistent in his actions.
Window Cleaner Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 I know that, but if - as hinted at on the FA website - it has been reduced to 1 match then it is "****ing ace" His case was due to be heard today, the fact that he's down for 1 match now on their list seems to indicate that it was favourable to us.

Window Cleaner Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Yes it would make sense but the ref did book Gleeson dont think his was really a sending off misdemeanour course it was, he started it, what is more he'd been a dirty little sh*t all the rest of the game.Ref wasn't very consistent at all, won't say bad because I haven't seen everything but he wasn't great.

I think you are maybe wrong there it was Gleeson who was fouled after all but if grabbing somebody by the shirt is a sending off offence when somebody approaches you then you are right
WhitmonSaint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Official Saints FC twitter account has just confirmed Morgan's ban reduced to 1 game. Woop!
Um Bongo Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 So has it been served then? Yup he has. We're even winning appeals now. Wow.
WhitmonSaint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Yes, he's now available for tomorrow's game.
The Godfather Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 More good news, I'm far more confident aboutwinning tomorrow night now.
Tractor_Saint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4870091.Saints_win_Schneiderlin_appeal/ As I said in another thread - wasn't a sending off Fab news for Spiderman.
stevegrant Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 It would be fair to say I'm absolutely amazed we've managed to get the ban reduced - I was fully expecting to see it extended to 4 games.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 brilliant, that's given me more confidence in the next couple of games. Just hope Hammond's back soon.
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Excellent news, means he's available for tomorrow night also.
John B Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 It would be fair to say I'm absolutely amazed we've managed to get the ban reduced - I was fully expecting to see it extended to 4 games. No I think it shows that the appeal process does work the offence did not warrant a three match ban. Now Morgan has been rested an should be in good shape for tomorrow perhaps the one match ban was a blessing in disguise
Wes Tender Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 Whereas normally it might not have been a good idea for challenging suspensions for fear that the ban might be increased, perhaps the FL also had to make a review of the match to see what the context for the retaliation was. They might well have seen that the general standard for the refereeing was very poor. He had missed a blatant handball that should have been a penalty. He did not punish that awful tackle from behind with anything more than a yellow, while issuing two yellow cards when our players were incensed by it, effectively one for wagging a finger at the culprit and the other for the team's former captain attempting to pull our players away from the resultant melee. So in light of these really poor decisions, this other decision might well have been deemed to be an over reaction from an official that had frankly lost control.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 They must have had a tip off or strong recomendation to appeal otherwise it would have been very risky. fair play though.
Whitey Grandad Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 I know that, but if - as hinted at on the FA website - it has been reduced to 1 match then it is "****ing ace" Good point, I hadn't thought of that.

Scummer Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1943956,00.html That seems to suggest that we didn't even appeal and the FA changed it anyway?
Whitey Grandad Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 That seems to suggest that we didn't even appeal and the FA changed it anyway? mmm., '...agreeing with the claim that a three match ban was excessive...'
Window Cleaner Posted 25 January, 2010 Posted 25 January, 2010 That seems to suggest that we didn't even appeal and the FA changed it anyway? No we appealed, it's on their site (FA)dated Friday
