Dons 0-1 Saints - Reaction

Arizona

dont know if you were there or not, but I disagree, Easter was tearing through our midfield..

Was not there but watched the whole game and dominated possesion due to our superior midfield play. Easter was up front and held the ball up ok but that was more Perry not wanting to get too tight and be turned and leave us exposed due to his lack of pace.

Fonte was superb as was Antonio. Wotton did his part well as well. Disgraceful reffi g and linesmanship. Thomas' stud marked chest said it all and the pen was a dead cert.

I have never in my life wanted to **** a ref so much as I did in the second half. Truely awful

crowd were simply immense

Last one... the scrap in the first half that, IMHO, set up the sending off :)

1st half scrap - 60Mb+ - Right Mouse click and 'Save As' then play :)

The vid for the sending off was interesting.

For those people who say Morgan was petulant, he didn't complain at all. Showed great respect to the referee IMO.

However, the look on Pardews face when the video ends is priceless.

Just got back

Obviously it was on tv so you probably saw better then i did!

But great performance from the lads. Really attacking pressing football which was a delight to see. Antonio was everywhere and was i felt our joint best player on the pitch. The other was Fonte who i thought was imense. Was the first time i have seen him play and he will be a great signing for us. A pity he will be cup tied for saturday.

First time i ever been to their stadium, think even the 1st time i been in Milton Keynes. Boy what a **** hole!! We played like the home team and sounded like the home team. Out support was superb. Speaking to a steward i asked him if their lot were always that quiet and he said pretty much. Told me to tell our lot to not be so loud when we next visit!

The ref was a total muppet. We had some silly yellow card which could of been avoided but there was no consistency at all. Morgan got two footed from behind and nothing happen's. James goes in to say back off = yellow card, Davis runs in to say back off = yellow card. Holmes slightly kicks the ball away = yellow card. Their guy punts it behind the goal = no yellow card. Fonte get's elbowed in the head = free kick to MK Dons. Lambert get's elbowed in the head = free kick to MK Dons. Thomas get's punted in the gut late = free kick and a talking to for taking too long to get up....Their player hand balls it in the penalty box windmill style = no penalty. Gleesen goes up and grabs Morgan by the throat = yellow card, Morgan pushes him off him = red card.

The decisions tonight were fecking disgraceful. The standard of refereeing in division three has been well and truely **** but this guy takes the winners medal.

So well done lads, great display, dominated from the start. The ref had to help them every chance he could to make it more of a contest. Our fans were superb and hopefully now we can finish the job at home.

Hopefully the mongs of last week have vanished for a day or two ;)

Great result - schite game!! Unbelievable support!!

At one point i think we were singing "all southampton" and everyone to man sung their heart out and it send a shiver down my spine - not heard us that loud for a long time. Everyone stood for whole game too which is how it should be.

He was solid but he did seem to hoooooof it quite a lot more than I was expecting from the defender described by everyone as cultured and "ball playing".

We were scrappy as hell in the second half, we do lack creativity so hopefully when he settles in Fonte can play a part in helping us play our way out of this league.

Pretty ropey game all in all, we were far better first half then second. We'll be nowhere near the play offs playing like that.

Crowd was excellent and easily outnumbered and outsung the MK fans. Little tip for the MK ticket office - put some vocal home fans near the away end. Does wonders for the atmosphere.

They don't have vocal fans because they don't have real fans. They're not a football club but a Franchise made up of numpties.

Fonte, what a find, best player on the park by far. I also thought James had a really good game and was unlucky not to score at the end.

Lallana was dissapointing for me and looked a little like he did last year, lots of endeavor but no end result.

Our midfield still needs strengthening along with another forward who can keep RL company. Plus if RL gets injured, as noted by one of the commentators, we are in deep poo.

Go to be the worst ref I have witnessed in a long time, how we managed to win despite him god knows.

I maaged to watch a large part of the game over the internet and i was impressed by Saints - I have been critical of Antonio (last saw him at Colchester where he didn't play well) but tonight I thought his contribution was excellent. I was also impressed by Morgan, who seemed to be involved in many moves. Fonte looks an excellent buy, Thomas played well again.

Ok we had to hang on for the last 15 mins but for most of the game we looked like the only winners. I'm beginning to like this competition !!

Antonio and Lloyd James were my MOMs - Mills also did well after his shocker against Exeter. Ref was poor, I thought it was a yellow card for Schneiderlin - if you see Gallas's tackle tonight and that wasnt even a foul it is a joke, not consistency. COYRs we deserve the Wembley final, they had no fans at all!!!

''Tonight showed the difference in quality in this league this season. We came up against no teams built like that last season. Even with the 10 points back Saints would be level with us, so arguably we should be well-matched, but that was a team built for a higher level, where physique and strength are a pre-requisite. That's not a dig at Saints, they could play a bit too, but it was easy pickings for them defensively and they could always unsettle us with physical presence in the midfield.

It was the size of the whole team that was most alarming. We were up against a left flank of bodybuilders, and of the rest, most of them were 6'+ and 13 stone. We just don't have those sort of players available to us as first teamers (Jude & Seano being the exceptions) at the moment. RDM identified this last season and brought in Jabo for nights like this. Incey will probably come to a similar conclusion in the Summer

Anyway, it'll be interesting if we can get the first goal down there, as our game is all about pace on the break and it may prove to be the key factor yet, but I'm travelling more in hope than expectation.''

I presume that what you meant was that we would be nowhere near the play-offs playing like we did in the second half, as otherwise it is nonsense. If we beat all of the teams above us 1-0 and maybe all of the teams below us by 1-0 or more, then obviously we will reach the play-offs. Furthermore, the team playing tonight, wasn't the team that we will play for the rest of the season. We had two or three players unable to feature because they were cup-tied and Harding was absent through injury, I understand.

I agree that we were better in the first half than the second, but MK Dons had to chase our lead and tried to unsettle us as a tactic. It almost worked because we reacted and they got one of our key players sent off. Happily, apart from the ball that came back off the post, we defended doggedly and they didn't have the guile to put the ball in the net.

I was pretty pleased with the way that we went about it, apart from responding to their antagonisms. We were very much in their face, won many of the 50/50 balls in midfield, had the majority of the possession and generally looked by far the more capable team.

We lead 1-0 at the half way stage, have an away goal and home advantage. Having beaten them before at home this season and winning the match away, we now have a strong psychological advantage over them and by the time we play them next, we could have strengthened the team further.

by no means a pretty vicotry, we played some very direct football which was not fun to watch. Having said that in these sort of ties when facing a team like MK Dons who like to get the ball down and play you have to stifle the opponent and stay strong at the back and nick that vital goal, and thats what we did tonight.

It means we can go into the second leg, and attack and play the football we can.

My MOTM today was Lloyd James, no-one was spectacular but he was very effective in his job of helping Wotton protect the defence as well as a couple of good passes. Relished in that position tonight with MS sitting just behind Lambert.

Fonte was also excellent alongside Perry winning everything.

.

I disagree to be honest.

It was a very professional display by our back 4. Anytime they got near our box they got ganged up on and retreated out of there. I saw some seriously commited defending by our lads and i'm sure they will have the scars to proove it.

When we lost Morgan we had i think 5 players on yellows, they could not fly in making tackles because this ref will send you off for nothing. The last 10 mins had them have 2 shots, 1 which Davis saved and 1 which hit the post. That was all they did for the entire 90mins. We on the other hand had plenty of shots (12 shots to their 2 apparently) which drew some great saves from their keeper, James had a great shot saved near the end.

They were not peppering our goal, it was under control. When we had 11 players out there we dominated. We played cute football with 1 touch football or sweet cross field passes. Antonio did a pass to lambert which was outstanding, 9 times out of 10 if that happen's Lambert will bust the net.

Mk Dons are a team battling for the Playoffs, they along with teams like Huddersfield are the ones who need to improve. Because even with 10 men playing away we were quite comfortable. They hit the post, we hit the bar, those things cancel themselves out right? Even with 10 men we still had 55% possesion.

If i was one of the playoff team managers i would be more concerned about Southampton then MK Dons based on that peformance. I would have also learned that hoofing the ball into our box will get you nowhere.

What a load of absolute b*llocks.

Left flank of Mills and Lallana, so by no means bodybuilders.

Perry, Wotton and Antonio are not hugely physical players.

Worried at peoples summary of Antonio.

He scored a good goal, but was otherwise utter toilet. Literally hideous. 1st 20mins he was embarrassing.

Completely disagree. He made a very bad decision when he took too long to square it for Lallana, but other than that he beat his man time after time after time.

Just got back.

Milton Keynes is a souless place, not just in the home end of the ground, but the place itself. What were they thinking when they built it?

As for their fans terrible Franchise FC, never liked them never will. They are not a proper football Club, their fans were waving at us!! What is that all about.

Anyway the game should have been wrapped up in the first 30 minutes, and then it kind of died out.

Support was a great turnout, but like the match died after 30 minutes and so did the fans, but picked up at the end again!

I think we need to go into the home leg with causion as they now have nothing to lose, but feel that they think that the league is what they want the most in a lackluster proformance from them after a 0-5 away win on Sat!!

Could we reach a final and maybe even win a trophy???

Antonio was Sky man of the match?

I wouldn't be surprised. He tracked back really well, took some great throws and scared the sh*t out of their defence. Oh, and he scored the only goal with some class.

Saint Stevo is talking utter toilet in this respect.

Did he? At times he didnt even look fast.....and when he did have space to get the ball in his delivery/final ball was atrocious.

Guessing people are seduced by his 'pace' and long throw

He beat his man (sometimes two) time after time with some great tricks, but his final ball lets him down, just tends to panick a little when he has done the hard part and left his man on his bottom!!

Tracked back, fair enough. Long throw? Woopdee. Scared the sh*t out of them, then hoofed it out of play. Quality.

Yes, he did. And I don't particularly like his long throws, we never get anything from them.

Sorry, but even before the goal I can remember 3/4 times when he went past his man with ease, on a couple of occasions even taking it past multiple defenders. Of course he isn't the complete player, Reading wouldn't be happy for him to leave otherwise. However, with a seasons experience he will do a fantastic job for us IMO.

I have it on sky +, maybe i'll watch again.....but just finished watching after work and pretty sure he didnt go round Lewington that often....agreed once he skipped down the middle of two, then proceeded to clear the box with another attempted cross. Ideal.

I haven't heard Gary Birtles' comments but if they're similar to mine then he obviously knows what he's talking about.

Would you rather have Antonio in our team or running at our defence? Genuine question.

Genuinely i would rather he was playing against us. Yeah he is fast, but when he fails to get it in time after time, even with time and a player begging for a tap in at the far post.....he is a waste of space

You are a nice chap s-s, but unfortunately I think your assessment of Antonio is well wide of the mark. He was a massive thorn in their side, even if he lacks a bit of subtlety - only 19 years old too.

He could be 119 and it wouldnt matter. Fails to get the ball in time and time again.
