ericofarabia Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 No. To the letter of the law it is definitely a red. A soft shove and it would never pass the Yoof initiation ceremony, but a red card in a game of football. The sort of thing you see in every game but normally results in a yellow as in reality the initial foul is always worse than a spontaneous retaliation shove/push. No point in appealing, by the letter of the law yes it was a straight red, but so should the MK Dons grab around the throat .. maybe consistency could be questioned
Viking Warrior Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Thomas had a nice set of stud marks on his abdo. The dons player should have got booked for that. so the more I consider the facts the more I think the ref was a homer.

ericofarabia Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Absoluely not. He pushed him, reasonably firmly in the face/neck. That's a red card. End of. If we appeal we will probably see it increased. He's become quite dirty and petulant recently anyway; about time he was taught a lesson. Why would that be ... a straight red was OTT in the 1st place, a heat of the moment incident which in most games solved by a yellow and a final warning. The end of !st half brawl probably saw more shoving/pushing etc and resulted in no Reds. Are you saying The FA can impose harsher penalties because somebody appeals, but couldn't if they didn't appeal

This was a clear case of a red card. If an MK Dons player had done it and not been sent off we would all be wailing about "raising his hands" etc... On another day a ref could have booked him, or sent them both off. IMO he was wrong not to send the MK Dons man off. I see no point whatsoever in an appeal though. That's true in my mind. Occassionally he looked out of place, but some of the things he did were outstanding. Best I've seen him play this season, and I'd be saying that even without tha goal. COYRS The situation is just begging for someone like Stock, add Danns in to the equation along with his versatility on right and our midfield would be as good as it ever could be whilst still in this league. Cant help thinking all the consistent sides at the top have a regular teamsheet. We aren't obviously there yet and hence the inconsistent performances. You're absoluely spot on in that any body in a shirt should always get 100% from us, nothing ever less. We southampton folk know the rules. sperm_john Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 just got back from the game (because I live in Northampton) ...went with 4 mates, first of all, awesome crowd from Southampton and a really good atmosphere to go with it (especially in the first half) ...also liked how the majority of the crowd stood but the ones that wanted to sit had their own little section at the end so the usual tiffs didnt seem to take place.. some great chants, pay up pompey, pompey going down with no money in the bank, shall we bring a fan for you to the mk fans etc etc ...on to the football, ref was actually dire ...made the game a scrap, stopped our creative players from being able to play flowing football e.g. AL and Antonio at times ...Ricky got man handled the whole game, was border line ineffective .. It was almost like Ince said be physical, hoof the ball long, fall over at any given chance and tackle as hard as you can...also thought the sending off was complete bull. Thought Antonio had a really good game, thought Fonte had a rock solid game at the back, KD made some important saves but also thought AL had a very quiet game and was second to lots of balls, but he's had so many good games for us we will let him off ...over than that, MK support an absolute joke Sky or No Sky ... we had easily as many fans as them maybe more, it was funny outside the ground you could almost of been at St Marys, as many st fans wandering about as MK fans .. I think we have given ourself a good chance with the next leg at St Marys now ... COYR

St_Tel49 Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Red card was harsh but reasonable too. The only two decisions he got wrong all night was the handball that he missed (although it seemed everyone missed it other than the commentator) and that "foul" against Antonio for going into the corner flag (with thanks to the linesman) I'm a ref, and I thought he controlled the game quite well - it could have got nasty. Why didn't he issue two red cards? Schneiderlins conduct was no more violent that Gleason's. It is the inconsistency that ****es fans off
StuRomseySaint Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Been thinking about this... Morgans offence was not a straight red HOWEVER... The foul was a bookable offence and the reaction was a bookable offence. So would it have been wrong for the ref to book him twice in quick succesion? Has that been done before? That way he would only have a 1 match ban... a 3 match ban for that is excessive.
Causer Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 The game was won tonight in the centre of midfield. They dominated physically and linked up with Lambert superbly. Most of Antonio's best work seemed to be in getting back and hunting the ball down in defence, showing he is not a luxury player. saintpat Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Just got back. Great result, I was concerned at half time that perhaps all our good work would not be enough with only one goal to show for an incredibly dominant half. Dug deep 2nd half and fought for everything- really good to see. Fans were great. Antonia was skinning their left back first half, yet we hardly used him in the 2nd- very strange!! Thought Lloyd and Fonte were both excellent. One small gripe- the young lads who ran on at the end. One was the same kid who swung a punch at the ball boy in Colchester-and it would seem he's run on the pitch before. His parents may be proud!- but SFC certainly shouldn't be- personally think that he should be banned! However-Mr Ten bellys who ran on at the end was very funny!! I thought he was truely, utterly sh1t at the start of the game.. then after his goal, which was brilliant, he was very good....has pace an energy to burn.. odd player..lol kind of reminds me of Kenwyne jones in his early days (totally different type of player...but it's the attributes/odd footballing ability im getting at) He's a rough diamond - he's got it all in his locker (pace/strength/close ball skills), if he can just be coached on those little bits of decision making (i.e when to pass, when to beat a player etc) he could be fantastic. I remember in the early days Kenwyne was slated on here for being awful etc - but with his attributes you always had a chance of molding a decent player out of him. maxi_sopez Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Just got back...really good first half, should have got 2 or 3, they were awful. 2nd half took foot off the gas and they could have scored when hit the post, no idea why it was a red card but made the last 15min tense! overall good result and good performance! On Mk Dons, really good stadium, looked great from the outside, but shocking how few fans turned up for them, we had far more it seemed and out sung them. How they can keep running with 4,000 for a semi final i have no idea! Finally the pitch invasion at the end was very embarassing do these 7 and 8 year olds not have parents!? VectisSaint Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Goo dresult, but could have been better, we should have been at least 2 up by half-time. Ref was terribly inconsistent, but unfortunately got Morgan's sending off spot on, straight red for pushing in the face. Of course the MK bloke should have gone as well, but there can be no complaints about Spiderman. Ref missed the penalty shout, I thought there was another handball missed as well. Thought Fonte looked absolute class, what a signing he should turn out to be. The game seemed a bit pedestrian to me, was the pitch really heavy or something, difficult to tell on the TV. Was urprsied how their players got away with murder (Gleeson was it, the red faced little *****, got away with all sorts all night). Funny really that I thought we out-niggled an Ince team, really got to them in the 1st half, great closing down, never let them settle. Still we nearly threw it away. Same old Saints - looking forward to the 2nd leg, got tickets today, just hope we can get down there for 7pm kick-off, what a ****ing stupid time to start a football match on a weekday.
