Dons 0-1 Saints - Reaction

Arizona

Recommended Posts

Hands up to a players face - he didn't slap him or punch him, just raised hands.

It was in retaliation to nearly getting strangled by their player, make of that what you will.

He pushed him hard around the throat/face. Can't be surprised to get a red and I hope we don't appeal as it will probably be increased for wasting their time.

That said, I think their player deserved a red too. He grabbed him aggressively round the collar - that is likely to cause a reaction and is violent conduct.

The guy who kicked Thomas in the chest with the ball nowhere near also should have got a red.

Saints fans - legends!

Watched very stuttering feed & listened on Saints player & never heard the home fans....congratulations to all there.

Team very controlled...aside from the discipline but ....hey...we're on our way to Wembley - I can't worry about that now. The ref was a totally card-happy ****** too & we hopefully won't get another one like him.

We're going to Wemb - er - lee!!

No just understood the rules which unfortunately our players did not

As per previous thread - were you actually watching the game? No way a sending off. Had he smacked him the face, yes, but that wasn't what happened... Next you're going to tell me that a player patting an opposition on the head after a challenge should be sent off too.

We should appeal the sending off.

Red card was harsh but reasonable too. The only two decisions he got wrong all night was the handball that he missed (although it seemed everyone missed it other than the commentator) and that "foul" against Antonio for going into the corner flag (with thanks to the linesman)

I'm a ref, and I thought he controlled the game quite well - it could have got nasty.

You were watching a different game to me then. Ref shocking.

Can someone explain what Scheiderlin got sent off for, please ?

I missed the game completely.

MS went in slightly late on Gleeson, not a huge amount of contact in the challenge but Gleeson got up and grabbed MS round the throat, MS got sent off while I think Gleeson got off scott free (although he did get booked, not sure if it was in connection with that though because the graphic came up a few minutes later).

Funny how the ref only ever notices our players..

Absoluely not.

He pushed him, reasonably firmly in the face/neck. That's a red card. End of. If we appeal we will probably see it increased.

He's become quite dirty and petulant recently anyway; about time he was taught a lesson.

ref and lino were blatantly biased and how wotton is a pro footballer is lost on me!! team dug in well, mk were never in it. Fonte was colossal at back, antonio mom, thomas had solid game and James, credit to him and not biggest fan but.... played well. Well played Saints! COYR.............

Their a proper Paul Ince team. Crafty, niggly, dirty and sly. Well drilled they may be but horrible and frustrating to watch they are.

Only concern is not many teams get 3 or 4 wins over the same team in a season. And we've got the biggest two fixtures to come vs that bunch of c**ts

The referee as has already metioned was clueless but the linesman in the second half was equally bad. When Antonio had the ball by the corner flag. he was being fouled repeatdly by two defenders, guess which way the foul went. even the commentators made comments he got it wrong.

We should have subbed Antonio for Papa at about 7o minutes. it would have took the sting out of the dons attack and pushed them back into a defensive mode.

As for you avenue. I thought wotton had an excellent game. he may not be the classiest of midfielders but he does get stuck in and closes down their attack very quickly. I see a similarity toi Brian O'Neil but then your probably far to young to remember him.

Still they need to score twice to reach Wembly some how I can not see that happening. Also come the 9th of Feb we will have a new midfielder on our books, lets hope he isnt cup tied

I agree it is not fair but you are not allowed to push someone in the face it is an automatic red

Sorry but the ref should have used his common sense. He only got pushed in the face cos he was practically on his knees trying to rip Morgans shirt off. Morgans hands weren't especially raised. And if he's playing the letter of the law the fella the went through Morgan in the first half that led the the Davis and James bookings, should have been sent off. Tackle through the back, straight red. Them's is the rules but he used his discretion on that one and that could have done some damage.

Thought Lambert had a good game. Closing down the Dons defenders, winning headers and generally putting pressure on the Dons back line into making a few mistakes.

Does need the midfield to catch up with him a little quicker though.

agree with that, credit to him with the assist for the goal too.

generally had the beating of the CB's all night, but we didn't have the movement around him for him to get openings himself.

Almost got cheated out of that.

Agree with the red for Morgan but I thought the MK Dons player deserved a red too. Morgan goes over there to see if he is ok and the MK Dons player hits out at him.

Not sure how we never got a peno - Referee was without doubt the MOTM for the home side.

Good goal from Antonio, could have done better a couple of times when running off the wing but he does look very good when he plays against MK Dons.

I would have played Papa a bit, considering its because of him that we've got this far.

Half time now, I suspect we will have a big home crowd for the next leg. Around 24,000.

Delighted with the result!

Not surprised they came back into it in the second half when you reflect on the effort and general domination we had in the first.

I was watching this one on sky but have to say a massive congrats to our fans once again. Just like the Millwall match, amazing support...to be proud of.

Brilliant. It may have only been a one goal victory, but it's more than I hoped for and we fully deserved it.

There were some standout performances for me, and these are all IMO, but it was the players that we sometimes under appreciate that did the best job.

Davis: Did everything that was asked of him, made a few good saves. Didn't need to get involved with the fracas just before half time. Was lucky when their shot hit the post. 7

Thomas: I thought he was very solid. Made a good few runs forward and rarely let the side down. 7

Fonte: Very, very good, first time I've seen him, brings a calm to the defence. Should've scored in the first minute, got a head to nearly everything. 8

Perry: Marshalled the offside trap well. 7

Mills: Who says we need a new left back back-up! Thought he was very good, going forwards and at the back. 8

James: Great shot near the end, deserved a goal. Lost his cool at one point, but the key to the win was the midfield shielding the defence. 7

Wotton: As with James, the midfield defended well. Saints didn't let the Dons play, and Wotton was there with the challenges when they were needed. Not brilliant, but in the circumstances did the job. 6

Morgan: The sending off marred an otherwise impressive performance. His passing was good, this was the best I've seen him play, and I'm one of his biggest critics. Still looks like Bambi when he gets close to the box.n Lost a point for rash-headedness. 7

Lallana: Tricks weren't coming off, he should have scored when he scuffed the shot, you can see he is on the same wavelength as Lambert but this wasn't his night. Still think he looks lost out wide. 5

Antonio: MOTM for me. Worked his nut sack off all game, as you could see with the cramp at the end. His passing was excellent, his goal superb. Never stopped running, and was defending as well as he was attacking. A real thorn in MK Dons side. 9

Lambert: Won the headers that he needed to win, hustled the defence. Still wish he'd shoot sometimes instead of laying it off. 7

Subs: Holmes: Didn't really get much of a look in. Booking was silly. 5

Waigo: Brought on too late for an impact, except the clearance with his first touch.

Pardew: I quite like the 4-3-3/4-5-2 formation. He'll have a mission with Hammond and Schneiderlin out. Glad he played Antonio in the end, and I bet he is too! 7

REF: Enjoyed waving the cards around, was playing things by the book. We should've had a penalty though for blatent handball. 6

We should have scored more, but for poor finishing from Lallana and Morgan, and we should have had a penalty, but I think every Saints fan would've been happy with that scoreline before the game. Now we have three weeks to get the FA to change the rules to allow away goals!

Well that should have been so much easier, but made to be difficult by a complete tool of a ref. That was quite possibly the worst group of officials I've ever seen. Good result in the end, just need to start the same way at home & finish the job off. COYR

Should have turned over to watch Spuds and Scousers then!!!

But on a lighter note, bossed 80% of that game, denied a stone-waller and held on for a bloody good result.

Just a shame we didn't score a couple - we bloody deserved too!

COYR

Bring them home and smash them to smitherines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wont fault him for effort but, u can coach anyone to close down, not wanting to come down too harsh on the man BUT, he cant pass, cant tackle, cant run.. We need better to get balance of midfield right.. Up against better sides we struggle in the middle, today playing the 5 was factor in stopping them play.
