um pahars Posted 11 January, 2009 Posted 11 January, 2009 (edited) These 5 games are pivotal for me. We go into them in the bottom three and have: a) Home game against relegation rival 23rd (have to win, and in reality we really should win) b) Two away games against relegation rivals 19th & 21st (cannot afford to lose and two draws could be OK, depending on our other results) c) Two other home games v 4th & 10th (a draw and a win in any combination would probably be good). So, in order of above for me the minimum target is W , D, D, D, D = 7 points. Good would probably be W, D, D, D, W = 9 points. (but of course so much depends on how our rivals peform at the ame time). We might achieve more points than that by winning anoter of our hme games, but if we just cannot afford to lose away and allow our rivals to take points off of us. gjphilsaint Posted 17 January, 2009 Author Posted 17 January, 2009 Game 28 No matter what sort of spin you put on it... no matter how well we passed the ball or played in general (if we did at all) todays result was a disaster... it isnt even possible to weigh up the last win at Barnsley and a loss today because Donny picked up the ppints at our expense. So.... Doncaster gain 3 pts (& 4 goals on GD) Norwich gain 3 pts (& 6 goals on GD) No loss from watford/charlton/derby who all lost... But today was all about being UNABLE to start a string of results, which if had happened would have left us in a stronger position. STILL only 1 victory at home and even more importantly losses to virtually all of our relegation rivals that have made it to SMS so far. saints now 2ND FROM BOTTOM donny have A GAME IN HAND and a point ahead AND with superior GD (and they are 3rd from bottom!!!) All of the teams above us look like they may be able to put together a set of victories somewhere.. but Saints.... will they be due another fluke win that gives us all yet "another false dawn" that sparks inexplicable bouts of optimism only to (In true SFC fashion) let us down when it really matters.? If they manage it , the majority of us, are no longer expecting us to supplement that with the rarest of animals "a Saints home win". So fighting in the ranks, the LOWE out chants now being registered in the press, despondancy everywhere you look... the mini league is still going strong and we are slap bang in the middle of it.
gjphilsaint Posted 30 January, 2009 Author Posted 30 January, 2009 .. the eve of game 30.. No matter the result tomorrow even if they all go in saints favour AND we win at home. Saints will still be in the bottom 3!!!
saint lard Posted 30 January, 2009 Posted 30 January, 2009 .. the eve of game 30.. No matter the result tomorrow even if they all go in saints favour AND we win at home. Saints will still be in the bottom 3!!! Well thats just groovy:mad:
gjphilsaint Posted 7 February, 2009 Author Posted 7 February, 2009 Huge weekend despite NOT playing .... Doncaster must lose to whittle away those games in hand. A Donny win and we are 6 pts off them and still a game behind. I really believe Doncaster are our only hope for survival now. Yes I know about watford (going down) and barnsley immediately nearby BUT this Doncaster match IS the BIG one.
gjphilsaint Posted 8 February, 2009 Author Posted 8 February, 2009 Is it a lottery now? If not surely there comes a point with cast iron certainty that you are going to lose that you stop buying tickets!!!!
gjphilsaint Posted 14 February, 2009 Author Posted 14 February, 2009 disaster saints and Charlton are DOWN last place probably... watford or Norwich.. 3 from these 4 but saints will be in the bottom 3. 14 games left.. 2 wins in the last 15 matches cant see us doing any better (possibly worse) Saints will be lucky to get to 40 points! i predict 33 points!!
gjphilsaint Posted 15 February, 2009 Author Posted 15 February, 2009 I predict a bottom of the table finish. sadly yes
Deano6 Posted 15 February, 2009 Posted 15 February, 2009 You really are single handedly keeping this moribund thread alive.
gjphilsaint Posted 15 February, 2009 Author Posted 15 February, 2009 You really are single handedly keeping this moribund thread alive. hmm maybe perhaps we should just go round and round creating new threads on the same topic.. at least in this thread it displays the big picture of the WHOLE season and how we really have never been in danger of avoiding the drop BUT well I paid my fiver BUT I guess YOU can decide who posts and which threads should be maintained/created... but over 2300 views... oh well... kill it off and then post in the "Which 3 will go down" thread... PS can i have a refund if I am not permitted to create a thread/ have my say? dear dear dear...
gjphilsaint Posted 18 February, 2009 Author Posted 18 February, 2009 You really are single handedly keeping this moribund thread alive. thread closing down due to well ... you know... the inevitable... moribund(ness) are we still talking about this thread or saints... nonetheless Deano doesnt approve,,, and after all we are fooked so... end of due to popular demand and.. end of lottery status!!! Cheers Deano (.............. the burgermeister!!)
Wiltshire Saint Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 There is already a thread like this  On the first mini league thread I made the point that seeing the same old themes in every thread that appears here is tiresome and in danger of killing interest in the main board. The constant scape goating and looking to moan or blame is relentless. Now it appears that we can't even have one thread about the mini league! http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=10298 Mods, can you lock this one now so we just have one thread? Thanks.
thorpie the sinner Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 I actually hope and almost believe that it will be Charlton norwich and............Plymouth!!! as long as our players keep believing that is!!
norwaysaint Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Surely this needs locking as everyone's posting on the proper thread already, pointless duplicate.
thorpie the sinner Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 To be fair, this was the original thread, i just missed it when it first started!!! My dreams of a sticky have been dashed!!
gjphilsaint Posted 22 February, 2009 Author Posted 22 February, 2009 Surely this needs locking as everyone's posting on the proper thread already, pointless duplicate. unfair and been a thread since september tbh
thorpie the sinner Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Cardiff looked very handy today!!!! Think I would be happy with a point already!! Three would obviously be preferable, but we are going to have to play very very well! Who have Plymouth and Forest got, anyone know??
gjphilsaint Posted 23 February, 2009 Author Posted 23 February, 2009 .. as endorsed by Deano06... a true testimonial!!!
thorpie the sinner Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 up!Right the table will look like this in my opinion on sat: 24 Charlton 26 points 23 Saints 34 points 22 N forest 34 points 21 Plymouth 36 points 20 Norwich 36 points 19 Barnsley 37 points 18 Blackpool 37 points I have actually been unbiased in my opinion, so how good would this look on sat if all these results came !
thorpie the sinner Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 Here I go again!!!! lets hope saints hang on and wolves and Qpr get something back in the second half!! I am praying!!
thorpie the sinner Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 my predictions for tonights table: Charlton 30 points Norwich 33 points Saints 37 points Barnsley 39 points Plymouth 40 points Forest 40 points Watford 40 points Blackpool 42 points with a fair wind, this could be the table tonight!!! i know it means a saints victory, but we know the players are fired up for it!! Fingers crossed!!

Fingers crossed!! I can't see the league tables breaking with tradition and allowing the team on the least points to be at the top.
skintsaint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Only chance we have of playoffs this season though.
thorpie the sinner Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I can't see the league tables breaking with tradition and allowing the team on the least points to be at the top. Its the only way we are going to finish third though!!
gjphilsaint Posted 3 March, 2009 Author Posted 3 March, 2009 the 3 games against Blackpool/Charlton/Watford are now the defining games in our season. Saints have got a run together and now must NOT disappoint us with false hopes and take 3 pts from each...

del boy Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 or like this... 18 Forest 41 points 19 Watford 40 points 20 Saints 40 points 21 Norwich 39 points 22 Barnsley 39 points 23 Blackpool 39 points 24 Charlton 28 points ..or something else! Fingers crossed, 4 in a row sounds unlikely but 3 in a row sounded completely stupid.

SaintDonkey Posted 6 March, 2009 Posted 6 March, 2009 Funny how none of the early posts mention Charlton - their fall has been truly meteoric.
krissyboy31 Posted 6 March, 2009 Posted 6 March, 2009 Funny how none of the early posts mention Charlton - their fall has been truly meteoric. Whereas Doncaster....
SaintDonkey Posted 6 March, 2009 Posted 6 March, 2009 Whereas Doncaster.... Hopefully we shall emulate them and continue our climb out of trouble. Whereas I have a suspicion that Palace are going to emulate Charlton.
thorpie the sinner Posted 6 March, 2009 Posted 6 March, 2009 I can't believe I have the plug pulled on me..........its a sad sad day!!! Goodbye to you all, I am no longer wanted!!!!! One last COYR for the road!!!!
