MK DONS 1st leg build-up

Waigo seems to be preferred in the JPT games, so I'm expecting him to start. I wouldn't be suprised to see Holmes keep his place either, so that's the wings sorted. James, Morgan and Adam in midfield if Connolly isn't fit, Perry in for Seaborne, Thomas in for Semi.

I think the line-up will be:

-----------------Kelvin---------------

Thomas----Fonte-------Perry----Harding (Mills if still ill)

-----------------Wotton--------------

---------James-------------Morgan----

Waigo--------------------------Holmes

---------------Rickie----------------

Subs: Bart, Gobern, Antonio, Lallana, Connolly

As it's a first leg, away from home, I will be more than happy with my predicted 1-1 draw (I think AP would be happy with this too, hence the expected 4-5-1 formation).

Hm

We need to be careful, Leeds losing will probably give MK Dons more belief than it does us, we'll need to be on top of our game to get a result. Still, our away fans are a real credit to us, we'll be ok I reckon.

Yeh Good point there Jimmy_D Mate as I was also thinking that as Yes it is a Good result that Leeds lost the first leg to Carlisle but it would be interesting to see which team will want it more tomorrow as if we get at least a draw tomorrow then we should go on and win and get to Wembley where as if we lose our concentration then we will struggle to get to Wembley but we will see ;)!

COYR!

Got a bad feeling about tomorrow's game. Certainly if we play like we did on Saturday then we are going to get beat, 3-1 to them me thinks but a 2-0 win at SMS to send us through on away goals.

My team would be...

--------------------Davis-------------------

Thomas-----Fonte----------Perry-----Harding

------James--------Wotton-----Morgan------

Waigo---------------------------------Lallana

--------------------Lambert-----------------

Subs: Bart, Mills, Holmes, Antonio, Connolly

Hopefully Antonio will get a game tonight, he utterly murdered their left back (Lewington) at St Mary's over and over again, just by basic shovelling it up the wing and outpacing him.

To be honest we seem to be struggling and also missing a lot of players, so I'd be happy with a draw, just scoring and staying within one goal will probably do.

On the subject of away goals, they count, but WHEN do they count ?

Assuming there's no extra time in the second leg in line with the rest of the competition, it would have to be at the end of 90 mins, but if there's extra time, it's a Football League competition, and they have those stupid Play-Off rules that did for us at Derby.

And anyway, whatever the use of the rule, AWAY GOALS DO NOT COUNT DOUBLE, FFS.

Nice to see us pitching up in Wimbledon shirts tonight for added comedy value, too.

I've never understood why the rule is decribed this way. If away goals count double then Carlisle are 4-1 up...

It's because most people are simply to lazy to ask the full question: Do away goals count as double IN THE EVENT OF A DRAW OVER THE TWO LEGS? i.e. the team who scores most goals away from home win.

Does that make it easier for you to understand?

That is a very good point! :)

P.S. I would imagine the 'away goal rule' would stand as of the end of normal time in the 2nd leg.

i.e. We lose 2-1 tonight and win 1-0 after 90 mins at SMS we go through.

We lose 2-1 tonight and win 2-1 after 90 mins at SMS, it goes to penalties.

The above is just a guess though.

They still don't count as double anyway, it's an even lazier description. They just count "for more". As you can't have a bit of a goal, it's effectively one goal more, so it's only actually "double" if the ties finish 0-0 and 1-1.

That should confuse a few people. :D

Teamwise, for me it has to be:

Davis

Thomas Fonte Perry Harding

----------James----------

----Morgan Lallana-------

Antonio-----------Waigo

--------Lambert--------

Nice and pacy. We are looking a bit thin though.

That would be my team too. I don't think I've ever agreed with anyone on a team selection thread before...

Incidentally, anyone know if Oscar Gobern played for MK in the JPT when he was on loan ? I am about to Google...

Okay, he didn't.

Oops, also just noticed you've got Lallana in instead of Wotton... so not the team I'd pick as I'd heard Lallana was injured (though this may be cobblers). Not that it's the team I'd want anyway...

Lallana-ness.

Wont Holmes play?

I'd like to see:

-----------Davis-------

Thomas Fonte Perry Harding

----------James----------

----Morgan Lallana-------

Waigo-----------Holmes

--------Lambert--------

That is if Lambert, who looked incredibly knackered at Millwall is alright to play, as well as Holmes, if he is fit. Antonio to come on as an impact sub, which I think he has proven is his strongpoint.

knowone going with Connolly starting? Id defo start with him and Lambert upfront with Antonio on the right and Lallana on the left.

I heard he's injured.

Holmes I wouldn't pick because Antonio did so much damage against MK last time and Waigo seems to be the man for the JPT and (assuming Connolly and Lallana are injured) we don't have anyone else who can play up front with Lambert if we want to switch from 4-5-1.

Might be worth putting the KO time (19:00) in the thread title, as I'm sure a few people won't realise it's an early one.

I'll take a score draw right now, ta.

Not complaining, but does anybody know why the game is kicking off at 7 pm.

Hope the dreaded TV curse is not turning up tonight.

Its snowing heavily north of Winchester and the M3 is very busy.

It's all a bit strange, considering it was about 7 degrees in Southampton this morning... and the BBC website says "Max temp 4" !!!

...forecast for noon in MK is "heavy snow", but it's supposed to stop snowing by 3pm.

I hope we are fully up for this. We're not playing well, MK Dons are. They won't be as bad as they were when we beat them earlier in the season.

I don't know if Connelly is fit. If he is, play him and go 4-4-2.

Davis

James Fonte Thomas Harding

Waigo Lallana Schniderlin Holmes

Lambert Connelly

Bart

Perry

Wotton

Antonio

Paterson

I like the 4-4-2 but a central midfield combination of Lallana and Scheinderlinn would get murdered.

I'd go for:

------------Davis

Thomas---Fonte--Perry---Harding/(Mills if harding injured)

Waigo---James----Schneiderlinn--Holmes

---------Lambert---Connolly

Subs:

Bart

Antonio

Lallana (if fit)

Gobern

Paterson

Lancashire (if not cuptied)

The JPT is Papa's competition he saved us againt Torquay, he saved us againt Norwhich and I full excepect him to score the winner at Wemberly. Paps's our JPT lucky charm if he gets on the pitch we will win somehow.

He's the competitions top scorer!! :)

Correct, here are the rules from 2006/2007, I assume they haven't changed significantly:

http://www.football-league.co.uk/staticFiles/56/91/0,,10794~37206,00.pdf

Clause 14.4 is the relevant one.

So no 'double' goals, no extra time but straight to penalties. That should make things exciting.

Glad I'm not the only one with a bad vibe about tonight. I worry we already believe we are through as fans.

My point was actually that there have been no "double" away goals ever in the history of football, and it's a stupid inaccurate phrase that means nothing and is utterly misleading, :smt015 but that's a useful link nevertheless.

In the event of scores being level: -

14.4.1 at the end of ninety minutes’ play in all rounds apart from the Final; and

14.4.2 after the conclusion of the two legs in each Area Final,

the winner shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance

with the Laws of Association Football.

So no away goals rule at all, then ?!

Hopefully the Leeds v Carlisle tie last night has woken a few up and while Johnstone's Paint are probably praying for a Saints v Leeds final with Wembley bursting at the seams and a wonderful bit of publicity, Carlisle v MK Dons suddenly appears a distinct possibility.

Setting off in the next couple of hours - roll your sleeves up Saints and get the job done.

Just for the record, last year's (initial) allocations were 20k for S****horpe and 30k for Luton : http://www.football-league.co.uk/johnstonespainttrophy/news/final-ticket-information-20090224_2246525_1568489

Though as both were achieved without impinging on the other team's potential full allocation there's no guide to whether segregation can be moved.

Still getting ahead of ourselves though.
