alpine_saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Some serious soul-searching required at SMS. Stick with this squad, we will go down. Stick with one-up front, we will go down. We have no defence, and the only one of our recognised strikers we kept (John) has a motivational and/or fitness problem.
teacher Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Sack the lot of them. Not good enough I'm affraid!
brmbrm Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Lowe has done a marvellous job at getting expectations and aspirations at an all-time low. This is total shi-ite
dubai_phil Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Well it's a point, from being under the cosh. Sort of a grind out draws when not playing well .... not Big lump center half - sort of a Sami Hyppia type before Saturday please and SJ is a real worry, we counted on him doing the old head biz and he sounded like he wasn't at the races
saint lard Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 The term "got out of jail" perhaps is appropriate,IMO
sad saints fan Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 only 6 points from a play off place. That would do me at the end of the season
Micky Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Not quite as bad as everybody expected - JP DID change things around and the lads DID come back from being one down... OK, admittedly we should be winning our home games, but Ipswich are no mugs either... Not overly disappointed with the result tonight..
alpine_saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Skacel has to come back PDQ. Dyer needs to fook off. Flog John and get Saga back.
Ponty Posted 17 September, 2008 Author Posted 17 September, 2008 I feel sorry for the 14k and the kids. It's so obvious that Jan is trying to play the right way and in the right spirit, and it's hard to have a pop at him because of that, but we need to toughen up, get a bit wiser and get a bit ruthless. It's time to get the older pros out there. Where are you Rudi?

I agree that evidence of a Plan B from JP is a positive development...
ExSt Peter Saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Not looking forward to my first trip to SMS on Saturday for our bottom of the table clash on Saturday. The way we were hanging on in this game does not inspire confidence at all. Confidence seems to be draining from everyone at the club now. Or am I wrong? Please someone say something positive!
Johnny Shearer Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Calm down dears. I'll take the draw. Will be interesting to read the views of those that went to the game.
Guest Hacienda Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Not losing at home is a step forward! How 'kin sad is that?
Saint Martini Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Bad game today with the defence being put under pressure because the midfield and forwards didn't keep possession. John played very bad and it did improve a bit with Pekhart. Maybe starting with DMG as the striker isn't that bad, at least he keeps possession. We need Skacel (Or maybe Gashmi?) to step up now that Holmes is injured, we were missing an outlet on the left with Dyer running around like a headless chicken as usual.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Disappointing. Better than losing, but we need to score a last minute goal for a change. Fingers crossed that Killer is ok.
mprobert Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 We will walk this relegation dog fight bottom four places mini-league
gjphilsaint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Seems like this was our "very lucky draw".. but I will reserve full judgement until those at the match get on here...

saintjay77 Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 quietly relieved. I thought we would have got a few more things right tonight and come away with the win but the whole team need a long hard look at themselves when defending. Giving the ball away cheeply should be stampted on as that was the reason for Ipswich getting so many attacks. Cut that out and teams will have to make the most out of there fewer chances. With 4 2 2 1 formation our 2 wide men are not defensivly minded and are leaving the defence exposed. Wouldnt be so bad if we had better full backs and 2 midfielders that are as good defensivly as they are in attack. We have stregnths but not enough to play the system we are trying too. a point is better than nothing though
gjphilsaint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 We will walk this relegation dog fight bottom four places mini-league sums it up nicely
Toadhall Saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 anyone else see wotton tell jan that we were going 442 after we went to 2 all?
.comsaint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 2-2 it is. I'd have settled for that before kick-off for 2 reasons; Ipswich are a very decent side after all (not to mention having financial clout which they used during the summer)...and coming off a 4-1 defeat like we were - the kids' confidence needed a boost...and a point should go some way to settling them again. Having said that - we MUST get 3 points on saturday now - of that there is no doubt.
Faz Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Calm down dears. I'll take the draw. Will be interesting to read the views of those that went to the game. Far too sensible. Given our state, a draw against one of the fancied teams should be seen as a big plus. The boys will have edged further along the learning curve. Three points on Saturday and the world will seem a different place.

John B Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Skacel has to come back PDQ. Dyer needs to fook off. Flog John and get Saga back. It is so easy sitting at home running the Team but JP has to do it for real. At least we did not lose and may not go down in May but probably will
Saint Martini Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 anyone else see wotton tell jan that we were going 442 after we went to 2 all? How do you see that exactly?

Gasmi out til Oct/Nov at least and same with Pulis. How many matches then required to get match fit... LOANEES I think sooner than later. Should never have brought in unfit players as no use this month. Not JP decision though.
Mr X Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 I should be pleased a point is progress in a way, but everyone knows you have to win your home games. I am gonna make a bold statement and say we can forget making the playoffs with this team, in fact we can forget any sort of top half finish. hope I'm wrong but I don't think I will be
gjphilsaint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Seems from the thread and stats on bbc that we were constantly over run and again have to thank KD for keeping us in it otherwise another pasting was on the cards. We got away with it, but that doesnt give us anymore than a point. I cant see it being a confidence booster, as we are now certainly seeing a trend here. Someone mentiomed a "turkey shoot" on the 1st half thread. Looks like thats going to happen time and time again.
saint lard Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Lowe was invited to be interviewd by Solent tonight,he declined the offer. Merrington being quite harsh with reference the lack of vocal support for the team and encouragement for the fans from him and especially the football chairman Wilde. JP,quite pleased with the first 20 mins, then dismayed with players not fullfiling their duties. He states he is happy with the point. He sounded not a happy bunny, sounded quite negative,no spirit,no confidence shown from the team. Maybe he has just worked out how difficult the task is he faces.
Ash Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 twe are in the shiiiiit this season Just one extra goal tonight though would have seen us on equal points with Ipswich and their opening fixtures have been easier than ours. It is still early doors, really, really early doors. The games against Barnsley, Doncaster, Norwich and Coventry will give us a much better idea of the way this season is going to pan out. Stick with this squad, we will go down. Stick with one-up front, we will go down. We have no defence, and the only one of our recognised strikers we kept (John) has a motivational and/or fitness problem. I cannot help but think you are being a bit OTT at this stage. Has David McGoldrick been so poor so far to suggest that he cannot do a job at this level? Why do so many of us have boners about the possibility of us having a bad season?
Micky Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 I should be pleased a point is progress in a way, but everyone knows you have to win your home games. I am gonna make a bold statement and say we can forget making the playoffs with this team, in fact we can forget any sort of top half finish. hope I'm wrong but I don't think I will be Sorry mate, I would hardly call that a bold statement - it's blindingly obvious based on our current form. As a previous poster has said - right now we need to concentrate on winning the 4 team mini-league at the bottom. Once we have done that - then perhaps we can re-assess the situation.
Under Weststand Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Disappointing result, but a point is better than nothing I guess. Sounded like we took a bit of a battering at times. Will be interested to see the opinions of those at the game. Just seen the goals on Sky Ipswich's first was terrible, shot saved by Davis another shot blocked spun across goal and there were 2 Ipswich players unmarked to score into empty net What SH**E defending.
SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Was Dyer played on the left or the right? Sky had him down as playing on the left, which seems odd to me - he is far better as a right winger than a left winger - BWP is the better left winger. Secondly, some people are talking about playing Skacel, but would we rather him out wide in midfield or as left back?

Professor Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 This was a 'must win game', maybe not so much from the points position with only a handful of matches played, but because if we can't win games like this at home, the season looks very bleak. There is no easy answer, if there was JP would be doing it, but we are missing a pair of specialist FBs and fans have been saying that since Day One.
ericofarabia Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Oh well our first point at home after 3 games ... no wonder it was our lowest SMS league crowd. Did I dream about the article about us creating 90 odd chances in the first 4 games .... I don't think Wright had to make a save tonight. Despite the doom and gloom we still seem to be playing better than last season, but we desperately need to sort out our defence before the loan window slams shut on our sad arses. Barnsley, bottom of the league, just the sort of fixture I hate as a Saints fan :smt104 Not sure what I'll be biting as my finger nails have gone tonight. Kelvin Davis has been a revelation, now lets hope a goal scorer will step up and take the laurels.
gjphilsaint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 mini league contestants? us... barnsley, forest doncaster................?
Johnny Shearer Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 but we never got it..and by all accounts we were ****ing lucky with the draw with more car crash defending... Surely playing badly and getting a point is better than playing well and losing? A point is a point nonetheless.
Thedelldays Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 Surely playing badly and getting a point is better than playing well and losing? A point is a point nonetheless. true..but we have been awful for a few games now...this was not a one off
gjphilsaint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 playing pretty football and letting the opposition get twice as many shots on goal as you and relying on our GK to keep the score respectable.... hmm the pretty football isnt the priority at the mo is it?
SW11_Saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Posted 17 September, 2008 1 point more than losing. Win v Barnsley and it won't be too bad a week. Lose, and it'll be fairly catastrophic...
