People like to class me as Easteigh, being from Bishopstoke. I try to distance myself from these claims as much as possible. Eastleigh is f00king awful and if I ever need to do something involving a city/town, I will bypass the place and go to Winchester or Southampton. Horrible place.

But you do go to The Wagon Works and KFC (all according to your FB status of course) ;)

Having gone to Barton Peveril, I often ventured into Eastleigh during my free periods. Everyone there, other than the non-resident students, falls into one of two categories. Some even transcend the two. These two categories are old people and chavs.

It made the top ten places to live, in the UK, only a couple of years ago. Having travelled extensively around this island, I can safely say that it's not the worst place on the planet. It's far from the best but it's light years from the worst.

And the reasoning?

9 Eastleigh-Ugly, but with great employment prospects.

So basically, it is a sh*thole but can always get a job at the Ford factory to make up for it. D'oh!

Only been there once and that was due to my train making an unscheduled stop, looked for a pub and found 2 both were closed on a saturday night.

They've recently opened a Wetherspoons there, which is good.

'They' being the local Yoof?

Where I live now is beautiful, but with bugger all jobs around. If I was out of work now I'd rather be in Eastleigh.

Still in Woodstock?

I remember a few years ago, we both lived in the same village in OXON but never actually met. Agree it is a nice place though.

I moved, a couple of years ago now, to up near Enstone, a few miles from Woodstock.

KFC in Hedge End. Been in Wagon Works once to meet people before getting a train out of Beastleigh to go to a Saints game.

The people of eastleigh make exceedingly good cakes. Well, they used to.

Three of plus points though.

1 - The airport

2 - The resurgence of the railway works

3 - The Spitfire. Where would we all be without the Spitfire, eh?

YAY ... lets hear it for The Rookie Babes ;)

Did time at Alderman Quilley Borstal, Barton Pev 6th Form and Southampton Airport in the 70's before leaving firstly to Bomo then overseas.

Just as well there was a train station to go elsewhere for beers as the pubs in Eastleigh were a) virtually non existent and b) crap :(

Still go back once a year to see the folks (and fit in a home game ;)) and have to say there are a lot worse places around.

Lol at Skatesmuff having their training ground there (do they still?). They must look at Eastleigh FC's facilities and be envious :smt081

Once saw Ron Davies at The then newly opened Fleming Park sports centre and Matt Le Tissier in Tescos and Joe Jackson doing a gig with a band called Arms and legs? at my local The Eastleigh Hotel just before he became famous.

What more could you want from a place huh :smt047

My brother and sister were born at Rookwood. I was supposed to have been but came too quickly (for the first and last time in my life :)) and so was born in a house on Eastleigh High Street, about 200 yards from where the Swan Centre is now.

As with Eric above, I too did my time at Quilley Borstal and also come over for a visit at least once a year. I agree with him that even though it is a bit of a dump there are certainly many worse places around. Indeed, IMO, Eastleigh is certainly better than many areas of Southampton; and if you look at the total area of Eastleigh Borough against the city of Southampton I would say it is a much better place to live.

Me too. Good old Barton Peveril Grammar (the lovely Reg Bowyer as head)

Had the odd row at Eastleigh Youth Centre many moons ago when we came over from Wimpson Youth Club.

You could generally get a good row there with the likes of Dave Stewart, Gary Henderson, Nige Grace etc. in attendance. If memory serves it was the Wimpson Youth who provided the most sturdy test!

Always thought it rather depressing. Mind you my memories of Eastleigh go back a bit. Spent first two years of my secondary education running back and forth to lessons across Leigh Road from the Chamberlyne Road Annexe to the main part of Toynbee. From what I can remember there were bits of the school all over the town. Random Science labs miles from the rest of the school. Add to that PE lessons at Fleming Park and swimming at Pirellis we always seemed to be moving somewhere. Looking back on it it was absurd to bus all us kids living in Baddesley to Eastleigh.

Mind you we would have had some of the Weston boys with us.

And where, exactly, above Eastleigh, does Southampton sit in that list?

Hatch, the Hospital (actually Maternity Home) was called Rookwood.

One of my daughters was born at Rookwood. I only just got there in time :)

Despite what people from outside Eastleigh say it's actually not a bad place to live. What makes me laugh is when anyone from Bishopstoke, Shirley, Millbrook, Thornhill, Portswood, and Bitterne slag off Eastleigh, as most parts of these places are far worse.

I live just outside in Boyatt Wood which is a great place to live.
