My mum always called it Rumsey. Another way that you can spot a old Romsonian is how the pronounce Braishfield. The "i" is not used so it's Brashfield.

With a long 'a'.

my auntie, uncle and cousins live in romsey. i have been drunk on many and various occasions in the comrades' club, the romsey tavern and the bishop blaize. i like romsey - it gets me p1ssed.

So what I can gather from your choice of pubs is that you are a pikey?

p.s - you can't respond to this message until 13:07pm tommorow. xxx

I don't live in Romsey, whom might you be talking about?

So you dont live in Romsey but you do accept you have spade faced features with a hint of a Gay astronomer look about you whilst also being a little worried about walking into social clubs in Southampton named the Northam Club?

No, I managed to rule myself out after the first sentence... so I didn't need to read the rest of your drivvle.

Mmmm......I think my diagnosis on this individual is correct.

This is poster is clearly a Gay astronomer look a like, slightly spade faced and a little nervous about Social Clubs in the Northam part of Southampton in complete denial.

Oh well that was my last post for 24hrs....\\:D/

Go on then, I'll give it a go.

OK Romsonians,

These are the pubs that were open when I was a nipper but are no longer with us.

The Star - still there, near the old brewery. Good old boozer.

The Vine

The Angel - Bell Street, now called La Parisienne.

The Sceptre - think this was in the Hundred?

The Sawyers Arms

The Bricklayers Arms

The Railway View - I guess the knackered old building by the train station.

The Fleming Arms - on the corner across the road from the train station.

The Crown - there was a Crown in Kings Somborne, not sure about Romsey though.

The Horse & Jockeyon the outskirts of town just before the dual carriageway to Ower, it became Casa Bodega and is now The Cromwell Arms. Nice food.

The Kings Head - in the Hundred, became Piafs restaurant, now called Berties. My mate used to work there (many years ago) and sort us out with free drinks. Very handy as a skint college student.

The Crossed Keys

Do you know where they all were? (No cheating by using t'internet) Or are there any that I've missed?

That's all I know. Got to love Romsey; I went to Romsey school (when it was good).

Not bad.

The Vine - halfway down Cherville St on the left heading out of town.

The Sceptre - Yep, on the corner of Palmerston St.

Sawyers Arms- In The Hundred opposite Linden Road.

Bricklayers Arms - White building at the bottom of Banning St by the stream.

Railway View - In Station Rd by the before it becomes Latimer St.

The Crown - In Winchester Rd just past the Texaco garage but before the Plaza

Crossed Keys - Bell St almost opposite Bradbeers.

One I missed was the Red Lion - in The Hundred on the right just before Palmerston St

Had a chat in the pub tonight about this with a mate of mine; he used to work in an estate agent in the Hundred and mentioned the Red Lion, he said that when he was there you could still see the writing on the building of the old pub.
