Legod Third Coming Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/oform.html 4th on last 8 game form 5th highest scorers in the league So why not chill the feck out and enjoy life for a change?
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Well said - too many knee jerk wimps on here.
Colinjb Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Indeed, it's still a fantastic time to be a Saints fan, and should be for a fair while yet. Lets have some fun supporting the team boys!
CB Fry Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 It's called instant success and it seems to annoy people on this forum.
Sanguin Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Only 5th highest scorers in the league?!? that's pathetic! If we don't do something about this soon I'm certain we'll be in a relegation battle.
madruss Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/oform.html 4th on last 8 game form 5th highest scorers in the league So why not chill the feck out and enjoy life for a change? A superb piece of perspective. Particularly bearing in mind that the 3 'blips' happened at three of the toughest grounds to visit in the league. 21 games to go, and only one of those away games (Norwich) will be anywhere near as tough as those
Andy_Porter Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 A superb piece of perspective. Particularly bearing in mind that the 3 'blips' happened at three of the toughest grounds to visit in the league. 21 games to go, and only one of those away games (Norwich) will be anywhere near as tough as those we need to achieve around 2.3 points per game if we're to finish in the top six, we can't really afford to drop anymore points.
Junior Mullet Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 I'm looking forward to my trip to Wembley this year and to automatic promotion next season. Glad I'm the patient type.
madruss Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 we need to achieve around 2.3 points per game if we're to finish in the top six, we can't really afford to drop anymore points. Agreed. Plus home wins against Swindon and Huddersfield are absolutely vital. It's finely balanced, but I reckon we'll get there. A lot will depend on how many games Connolly can play, and whether we sign another quality attacking midfield player
Andy_Porter Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Agreed. Plus home wins against Swindon and Huddersfield are absolutely vital. It's finely balanced, but I reckon we'll get there. A lot will depend on how many games Connolly can play, and whether we sign another quality attacking midfield player Every game is vital. If we lose two and draw two then we're looking at needing 46 points from 17 games, 2.7 points per game...
stevegrant Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 we need to achieve around 2.3 points per game if we're to finish in the top six, we can't really afford to drop anymore points. Surely then, by pure mathematics, we can afford to drop approximately 0.7 points per game...
Micky Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 we need to achieve around 2.3 points per game if we're to finish in the top six, we can't really afford to drop anymore points. Big ask in my opinion - especially when you get round to the squeakybum bit of the season.
saint_stevo Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/oform.html 4th on last 8 game form 5th highest scorers in the league So why not chill the feck out and enjoy life for a change? Cos we scored in stoppage time then conceded almost immediately and threw 2pts away.
Smirking_Saint Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/oform.html 4th on last 8 game form 5th highest scorers in the league So why not chill the feck out and enjoy life for a change? I understand the perspective, but you have to look at it in the middle, between the whingers and the rose tinted glasses camps. Ok, we score enough goals but let too many in - Pardew has addressed this and bought 3 defenders. We are 10 points away from playoffs - In a way, ok, this can be acceptable because we had points deduction but FFS we shouldn't have lost to some of the teams we have lost to. And also, i agree with Stevo, we scored in the final minute and then switched off, they scored about 15 seconds after kicking off with a long punt, we played crap all game apparantly so ok, we didn't deserve the win but we should be able to hold on ffs.
Block 5 Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/oform.html 4th on last 8 game form 5th highest scorers in the league So why not chill the feck out and enjoy life for a change? Those stats are woeful. Liebherr out!
Scudamore Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Surely then, by pure mathematics, we can afford to drop approximately 0.7 points per game... Exactly what i was going to say! Not that that makes it cool of course... 21 games remaining multiplied by the 0.7 points equals 14.7 points... Millwall was a real 0.6 pointer!
Legod Third Coming Posted 17 January, 2010 Author Posted 17 January, 2010 Exactly what i was going to say! Not that that makes it cool of course... 21 games remaining multiplied by the 0.7 points equals 14.7 points... Millwall was a real 0.6 pointer! I a hopeless at Maths but I take your word for it... I like the fact we are only conceding .87 of a goal per game...
John Smith Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 I'm amazed that people think Swindon will be getting 76 points this season! I think that's the real stunner coming from the 'negative ones'. Or are we talking about MK Dons, who are 2 points behind them, or Millwall, who are 2 points behind the Dons and can;t even bit sh*tty old Saints at home? 6th place is up for grabs, and we won;t 'need' 76 points to get it. Taking points off Millwall at teir place is a dent against Millwalls hopes, not ours! And if you don;t think Swindon will hang onto 6th spot, we're only 10 points off the Dons and 8 points off Millwall! The over reaction to Saturdays great point away from home is astounding. Name me 5 games this season where teams in Division 1 have had 3 new defenders, a goalkeeper returning from injury AND kept a clean sheet, AND won? Trust me, it doesn't happen often.

If we were playing better football I would agree but in the last match I saw against Luton we were dire and not that much better against Exeter.
VectisSaint Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Every game is vital. If we lose two and draw two then we're looking at needing 46 points from 17 games, 2.7 points per game... But wins against Swindon and Huddersfield are more vital than others since they are our main rivals for 6th and a win against them effectively is a 6 point swing. Lose these and win 14 others and the chances of 6th are not so great.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Exactly what i was going to say! Not that that makes it cool of course... 21 games remaining multiplied by the 0.7 points equals 14.7 points... Millwall was a real 0.6 pointer! or even three games worth plus of lost points by dropping 2!
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 But wins against Swindon and Huddersfield are more vital than others since they are our main rivals for 6th and a win against them effectively is a 6 point swing. Lose these and win 14 others and the chances of 6th are not so great. Lose these and there is little point in making the play offs (if we continue to fail in winning against the top 6)! Assuming we somehow make 6th in these circumstances we would still need to be good enough to beat sides in 3rd to 5th if we are to get through!
david in sweden Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Cos we scored in stoppage time then conceded almost immediately and threw 2pts away. .and it may not be the last time that happens........any suggestions? Teams aren't going to lay down and die just because we scored late on. I don't think AP will let that go by unmentioned in the dressing room - do you ?
bristolsaint29 Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Who cares, I'm just enjoying still having a football club to support!
Andyb1 Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 we need to achieve around 2.3 points per game if we're to finish in the top six, we can't really afford to drop anymore points. We will drop more points. You probably need to prepare yourself for this.
JustMike Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Surely then, by pure mathematics, we can afford to drop approximately 0.7 points per game... haha
doddisalegend Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 We are 10 points away from playoffs - In a way, ok, this can be acceptable because we had points deduction but FFS we shouldn't have lost to some of the teams we have lost to. Why? I hear this on here all the time, this is football the smallest things can change a match. This idea that our club (or any other) will beat another club becuase we're bigger, richer, have better looking fans etc is so much crap. The team that wins is the better team on the day (most of the time). I think the reason some of our fans get so wound up is becuase they can't handle this fact. They look at other league one teams and think we must beat them becuase we're Saints and they're not. Bigger clubs (if we are indeed such a thing) get turned over by smaller ones all the time. No club has a right to win any match.
saintjay77 Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Lucky to have a club to support, A new owner that is spending money on the whole club, Winning more than losing, A realistic view that we are heading back to the prem in a relativly short term plan, No Lowe, No Wilde, No Crouch, How ever high we finish this season I will take as a bonus, and if we reach the play-offs then fantastic, but I just want the team to be built and to learn how to win and defend this season. If we are still in league 1 next season then I can accept it but will be disapointed if we are then not pushing for automatic promotion. The team has been stripped, rebuilt, stripped and rebuilt again in half a season and I wouldnt be suprised to see more comings and goings so to expect them to automatically win everything is harsh. Errors will happen, its how they react to those errors that counts.
hutch Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 If we're looking at facts, we've won 10 out of the last 21 league games. Will we do better than that in the next 21? I think so. And we've won 15 out of the last 21 games in all competitions. Doesn't mean we'll get to the play-offs, but it's too early to give up yet.
GenevaSaint Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 suicidewatch.com was in full overdrive after the game then I guess? I didn't even bother to read the comments from the knee jerk crew.

I am quite Happy with SFC this season but I am not happy with people constantly going on about reaching the playoffs . Which is virtually impossible with the -10 and the similar form of the top six teams

paris Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Very well said ,i'm happy we've still got a team wasn't long ago we nearly went out of business period ,under the circumstances we ain't doing too bad me thinks..
