He can fook off. Simples
SNSUN Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 I wouldn't take notice of what another manager of another club says in The Mirror about another transfer. There's not too many of Coventry's players I'd want here anyway tbf. Hardly setting the world alight up there.
Eaststander Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Another non story, lets move on please. This is professional football not a playground.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Seems we acted badly in this deal - surprised AP has not commented on this yet.
St.Patrik Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Perhaps AP didnt have any say in this deal ?
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Is the animosity due to it being the second time Ransom's had a knock back from our club
Chicken With A Banjo Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 different administrations, but Coventry gave saints the run around with the Leon Best money.
Legod Third Coming Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 In a nutshell can someone tell me what happened with Ward?
TNT Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 In a nutshell can someone tell me what happened with Ward? We where going to buy Ward and then changed our minds and bought Seabourne instead from Exeter.
Legod Third Coming Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 We where going to buy Ward and then changed our minds and bought Seabourne instead from Exeter. Isn't that like was going to by a Jaguar and then decided on a Ford Fiesta?
Webby Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Isn't that like was going to by a Jaguar and then decided on a Ford Fiesta? No. Anyway, who cares? We bought Seabourne, instead of Ward for whatever reason. If Ward failed the medical, that's good enough for me.
Wes Tender Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 The person who comes out of this looking childish and petulant, is Coleman. He's like a baby throwing his toys out of the pram. OK, he's upset because he couldn't buy another player without first getting money for Elliott, but he ought to grow up and accept that the deal isn't done until the contract is signed, the same as any other legal transaction. He talks as if there is some code of honour and ethics that exists in football and if he believes that, he is more naive and gullible than he ought to be as a manager. Thank God we didn't get Coleman or Ransom at this club.
Legod Third Coming Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 No. Anyway, who cares? We bought Seabourne, instead of Ward for whatever reason. If Ward failed the medical, that's good enough for me. So he failed a medical?? That's all I'm trying to find out - the reality of what happened.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Impossible to comment really unless you know exactly what went down. Does show that Coleman has no class though, whinging and b*tching to the press.
Wildgoose Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 So he failed a medical?? That's all I'm trying to find out - the reality of what happened. There is a rumour around that this is what happened. If so Saints have acted honourably by covering him and Coventry and taking the flak. If it wasn't that then Saints seem to have acted very strangely.......though there's often more than meets the eye isn't there?
Block 5 Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Thank God we didn't get Coleman or Ransom at this club. +1.
Window Cleaner Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 I wouldn't take notice of what another manager of another club says in The Mirror about another transfer. SuperSAINT Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 If he failed a medical, we just would've come out and said that. Something doesn't quite tie-up. As of Saturday, Pards said on Solent about the player that was elsewhere that wasn't in the team, who could come in and do a job for us. That was obviously Ward. Obviously Cortese pulled the plug for some reason. Did we decide we'd be paying him too much? - It's the only thing I can think of. I don't believe that we thought Seaborne is the better signing.

NickG Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Seems we acted badly in this deal - surprised AP has not commented on this yet. no need. Wasn't any need for club to respond to echo with the previous petty criticism. Get on with running the club, producing results, supporting manager and giving fans most pleasurable season for a few years.

I don't believe that we thought Seaborne is the better signing. disagree, think he was talking about the RB. I put on the other thread - maybe they were pleasantly surprised to get such a good CB from Palace, then decided that the balance/attitude would be better with Seaborne. Seaborne is left footed - could be something as simple as that.
david in sweden Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Why was Coleman so anxious to get rid of Ward? according to a Coventry fansite...there was an " issue " between Coleman and Ward - hence they would have been glad to see him "go" - but of course he didn't. he was more popular with fans rthan the manager.
Dalek2003 Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 To think some posters wanted Coleman as our manager ? What an idiot Coleman is.
david in sweden Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Could be a transfer the other way, Saga perhaps.Anyway that would be a non-starter now. Saga is back in Poland, apparantly.
Gordon Mockles Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 And another transfer in the offing ?...... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Coventry-chief-Chris-Coleman-hits-out-at-childish-Southampton-over-failed-Elliot-Ward-move-article288873.html Apologies if already posted elsewhere. Yeah, saw that. I think our club could have dealt with it better but it swings both ways. Some just don't like to be on the receiving end. Still, who cares what a failed Premiership manager thinks!
Window Cleaner Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Saga is back in Poland, apparantly. More the fool him, must be bloody cold there at the moment.
david in sweden Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Perhaps AP didnt have any say in this deal ? you're probably right Patrik. Gordon Strachan said that he used to give the chairman (the unmentionable RL) a list of his targets, and leave it to him to agree terms with the club / and the player. One of the reasons why Saints didn't sign Drogba. Apparantly RL thought he had an " attitude " :smt081 ... I'd like to buy someone with an attitude right now if he turned out like that.
BadgerBadger Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Why was Coleman so anxious to get rid of Ward? Coz they're skint - the £ sign suddenly disappeared above Wards head and Coleman won't get any presents this transfer window
sotonjoe Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 I've no idea how we're supposed to have 'acted badly' in the deal. Until a contract is signed, either side can change their minds. My understanding is that Seabourne was our number one target, but that we had an early offer refused. We went to Ward as a backup and had a deal agreed in principle which just needed to be signed. However, at the 11th hour a deal was agreed between us and Exeter for our main target, Seabourne, so we pulled the plug on the Ward deal. What were we supposed to do? Buy them both just to make sure Coventry weren't disappointed? Some people have a rather naive view about how business works if they think we should have done anything differently.
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 If he failed a medical, we just would've come out and said that. Something doesn't quite tie-up. I said the other day that it was my belief this player was ostemebor from norwich, not Ward
RedArmy Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Would've rather had Ward than Seabourne. Bit disappointed tbh.
Window Cleaner Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 One of the reasons why Saints didn't sign Drogba. Apparantly RL thought he had an " attitude " :smt081 ... Perhaps Rupert wanted the last Kinder Bueno in the machine as well then. http://www.adsdb.net/wiki/Kinder_Bueno_:_Didier_Drogba (in french)
Saint_clark Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 As I said in the other thread, he'll get over it. I have no doubt that Wards wage demands would have been massive, and if the rumours are true and there was an underlying problem discovered in his medical, then we are better off with a young, highly sought after player with experience of WINNING.
Hopkins Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 . One of the reasons why Saints didn't sign Drogba. Apparantly RL thought he had an " attitude " :smt081 .... Not true. It is widely known that we didn't sign Drogba on Strachan's orders because he felt we didn't need another James Beattie.
JibMcdo Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Coleman seems to suggest the medical thing is an excuse for pulling out of the deal just because we wanted to. Are we not entitled to do that? The Exeter article on Seabourne says the transfer was done in a very short amount of time so it's highly likely Pardew got his number one target so quickly that the Ward contract had to be withdrew there and then.
Saint_clark Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Not true. It is widely known that we didn't sign Drogba on Strachan's orders because he felt we didn't need another James Beattie. Indeed, I think it was Adebayor who Lowe didn't like. He wanted higher wages and Lowe only wanted to give him something like £4k a week.
up and away Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 If he failed a medical, we just would've come out and said that. Something doesn't quite tie-up. Obviously Cortese pulled the plug for some reason. Did we decide we'd be paying him too much? - It's the only thing I can think of. I don't believe that we thought Seaborne is the better signing. I really doubt he failed a medical. What could be possible is there were signs that he had a weakness which could have been a problem in the future. What seems more likely is that we put in offers for several players and once you reel in your first choice, your views on the back up to that position may well change. I did not expect us to get in a player of Fonte's calibre, but once we did the options on the back up may benefit from someone more versatile or suited to our needs. If you are trying to bring in players in a very short space of time you are always going to have problems such as this. The alternative is to approach each target separately, wait for that target to accept / decline then move on to the next. I am pretty sure if everything with Ward was agreed quickly and no issue, then we would have signed him. Maybe what was done here was not the accepted norm and Coleman has got the hump because he could have used that salary elsewhere. Looks like just one of the problems we have in trying to do so much, so quickly. Getting these players in fast could make or break this season.
wild-saint Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Coleman quoted “To come out with excuses is childish and we’ve all been round the block enough times to know that it’s nonsense. So what were these childish excuses that saints offered for pulling out?
saints triumph Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 It may be because Ward leaked to sky sports that he had signed fot Saints and they put it ssn. On the Saints Twitter site it said that someone at sky will get a slapped wrist for reporting the alleged transfer.
Turkish Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 I really doubt he failed a medical. Looks like just one of the problems we have in trying to do so much, so quickly. Getting these players in fast could make or break this season. Spot on, there no way Ward failed a medical as according to reports he had said his goodbyes and Coventry, Coleman told the team after their game tuesday that he had left and he was waiting to here where to go to meet up with the Saints team. To be fair to Ward if you'd left one job and the day before you were due to start your new employer turned round and said actually we've taken someone else on in your place so forget it, you'd be pretty livid, luckily for him he's still got a contract with Coventry so he's not left unemployed but you get the point. Coleman is acting like a bit of a ***** though. On the subject of Drogba didn't we have a deal agreed for him and Malouda for £3.5m but Lowe wouldn't sanction the transfer for some reason? We could have only sold the pair on for £35m a few years later! Adebeyor was the one who he said he had an attitude, to be fair he has but dont most top players? How many nice blokes do you know who are at the top of their game, few and far between.
sotonjoe Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 On the subject of Drogba didn't we have a deal agreed for him and Malouda for £3.5m but Lowe wouldn't sanction the transfer for some reason? The fees were larger as well.
Lazlo78 Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 What were we supposed to do? Buy them both just to make sure Coventry weren't disappointed? Some people have a rather naive view about how business works if they think we should have done anything differently. Well put Coleman can't blame us for not buying Ward. At most he can claim that we acted dishonestly or in a misleading way, but he does not offer any info to back up such a claim in the article posted in the OP!
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Saga is back in Poland, apparantly. If that is true it would be nice to be told. And it does leave us short of cover in the forward dept.......
musesaint Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 What is Coleman complaining about? No deal is done until the contract is signed ...and if AP preferred a different option that's fine by me We no longer have to make do with a second best option ...Coleman is clearly unhappy that he couldnt move a player on when he wanted to ...tough!
saintmonkey1979 Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 If that is true it would be nice to be told. And it does leave us short of cover in the forward dept....... Not really. We have Rickie Lambert and David Connoly backed up by Papa Waigo and Matt Patterson. We also have Jamie White who does have the potential. Lalana can play up top too so I think we are well covered for the time being. Most teams in this league would be happy to have attacking options like ours IMO.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 And it does leave us short of cover in the forward dept....... Saga has been along way from a starting spot as a striker for some time. Lambert Connolly Papa Waigo Lallana Paterson Were all ahead of him in the pecking order. Doesn't mean Pardew won't buy another striker though, with all of Connolly's injury problems he probably has to.
up and away Posted 16 January, 2010 Posted 16 January, 2010 Spot on, there no way Ward failed a medical as according to reports he had said his goodbyes and Coventry, Coleman told the team after their game tuesday that he had left and he was waiting to here where to go to meet up with the Saints team. How many nice blokes do you know who are at the top of their game, few and far between. WSG thought Drogba was too similar to Beattie, wanting someone to compliment him rather than being the same type, that I heard WSG state. Adebeyor we had signed subject to work permit but we could not get it through in this country, whereas he had no problem when he went to Belguim / France? You don't normally give players medicals then change you mind for other reasons, so it seems a bit out of the norm. Coleman may have a point but no good will come from moaning about it. I just feel this is beacuse of the pressure of trying to get so many players in a short space of time. So we have upset Coleman, just privately say sorry and move on. It's really not that big a deal, unless you had that salary earmarked to bring in another player who you now cannot.
