Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 So then, has it been above expectations, below expectations, or what you thought it would be? I am happy with the 3 signings so far, but would have really liked to have added Brian Stock to them. He may still happen, we'll see.
david in sweden Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 BE PATIENT ..it's only Friday lunchtime! Mind you I am a bit worried, as we haven't signed ANYONE AT ALL in the last 24 hours ! lack of commitment Pardew out !
paulwantsapint Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Poss 1st time ever signed 3 players who are good enough or even too good to play in our league in 1st week of jan transfer window Keep up the good work AP
hypochondriac Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Cm and striker please before the end of the window
Andy_Porter Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Poss 1st time ever signed 3 players who are good enough or even too good to play in our league in 1st week of jan transfer window Keep up the good work AP Spot on. Factor in Antonio and it's been a brilliant window for, I can't think of another club who have bought in as much quality as we have. Signing Fonte really shows our ambition to push on and after signing him I have every faith in Pardew's ability to get us to the Premiership. It was clear that we needed a silky ball playing defender to play alongside Jaidi and that's just what we've got. Seaborne is another decent signing, not quite as box office as Fonte but he should do a job and will hopefully fill the Jaid shape void in the side when he's injured or needs a rest. I'm not 100% sure we need a right back but from I've read about Ostemebor he offers something different to Thomas, James and Murty so I can understand the short team deal. Now I know there are going to be people who think we need to sign another 11 players for promotion but I honestly think our current squad should be able to pick up the 2~ points per game we need for the play offs and we should now look at offloading a few. Would be delighted if we can bring in either a left winger or an attacking central midfielder so are 4-5-1 is more viable - but it's hardly a disaster if we don't bring anyone else in. I've every faith that Pardew will get us to the play offs this season.
Saints foreva Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Poss 1st time ever signed 3 players who are good enough or even too good to play in our league in 1st week of jan transfer window Keep up the good work AP There is no way that Seaborne or Otsemobor are too good to play in League One. Norwich fans seemed to hate Otsemobor because he couldn't defend. Exeter fans didn't seem that worried about losing Seaborne either.

It's pretty obvious he's talking about Fonte as the one who's probably too good for the leauge. But you know, have fun pointing out all the negatives.

Yes but we boo'ed Fuller because he did'nt score enough goals for us.... But Stoke seems quite happy with him as indeed they are with Delap! And then there is Telfer and Davies and......... you get the picture! Just because one set of fans don't like a player it does not follow that we should'nt !
Saint Samuel Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Its nice to log on to be greeted with news that players are being bought and not sold. Three signings this week seems good considering this window has been generally quiet for everyone else so far. If Pards brings in a midfielder and a striker before the end of the window I'll be happy.
Toadhall Saint Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 A good week IMHO. Players have been brought in to improve the squad as a whole. The only black mark so far is that we haven't been able to off load a few who's wages would be better utilised on A N Other player.
Fergie Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 I think the exeter fans are just sick that he has left their club to be honest. My friend is an Exeter fan and he said he's very sorry to see him go and upset that he walked out of the club so easily! So maybe these exeter fans saying he's not good enough, etc are just saying it because they are sad to see him go. We'll see though. Good luck to Dan Seabourse, hope he shows us why Pards has faith in him. The future's bright, the future is the saints!!

Er no, it's pretty obvious that he's talking about all three of them by the way he wrote, "signed 3 players who are good enough or even too good to play in our league". So far we've signed two CBs where we've just lost one and will almost certainly lose another in the summer and a RB who will cover for the first choice who is injury prone. It's good that the rebuilding continues but it's not been that fantastic a week.

There is a question mark with the other two. Lets hope they can step up and perform.
Wes Tender Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 It's early days in the transfer window, so not bad business for this stage. Undoubtedly as in the Ward case, there are negotiations in progress for players we want and then another player offer is accepted that we prefer. Somebody else hears that Ward is now available, so that is how it goes. There could be players on our wish list that we are expecting to go elsewhere and they could become available to us, just as Ward has become available to some other club. Clubs now know that we have money and might be placing daft prices on players to see whether we bite. We have done ourselves a favour over the Ward episode, letting them know that we are not patsies. We have the immediate signings we wanted and can now play poker with some others, seeing what develops and putting in late bids when some other club blinks and gets desperate to take our money or get nothing.
SNSUN Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 The strange thing is, if we'd made the signings in the reverse order, Otsemobor, Seaborne then Fonte, this place would be buzzing with expectation at the next signing. I'm very pleased that an area that needed strengthening has been strengthened. Bring on the rest of the season.
