JustMike Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 I can understand your logic but he is not in the David Fairclough class of impact subs. I would reserve the entire JPT budget for another quality lynchpin in Central Midfield and if that means sacrificing Waigo the so be it. Hammond has been a massive miss and he is certainly not back to his best before his injury. In the scheme of things your estimate of his value seems a tad high and I wouldn't pay more than a nominal fee, if any. I would venture his club will be pleased to get him off their books so won't be to fussed about price. well, thank god the decisions at SMS are not run past you for approval
Scudamore Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 Not really... I think people forget that it's not our money anymore ( as in the shareholders ) ... if Liebherr wants to break the bank for him then that's up to him. Not really my point to be fair Stu. I meant it depends on how much Fiorentina want for him. If it were more than Pardew's valuation for him then no...we shouldn't sign him. Capiche?
DT Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 Can't say i've noticed that, but I seem to be the only person who was annoyed (rather than amused) at the way he tried to wrestle the JPT from Hammond and Davis. I'd have said, in no uncertain terms: 'Oy! Waigo! Let go! You ego!'. Or something. Anyone else have a nasty feeling that our season will end this weekend?

If it were more than Pardew's valuation for him then no...we shouldn't sign him. Capiche? It was a loan with a view to a transfer, so it is very likely a price has been arranged already.
BJBSAINTS Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 Yes. For sure has pace and can finish, why would you not want a player like that in our squad/team?
Scudamore Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 It was a loan with a view to a transfer, so it is very likely a price has been arranged already. Since Pardew hadn't even seen him play when we signed him i find that unlikely...
Barry the Badger Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 Can't say i've noticed that, but I seem to be the only person who was annoyed (rather than amused) at the way he tried to wrestle the JPT from Hammond and Davis. I didn't really think he tried to wrestle it from them but he definitely wanted a piece of the action. For me though it was obvious that he did so out of sheer childlike excitement and joy at winning a trophy, rather than any ego, I don't have a problem with that, I did think it was pretty funny.
Hopkins Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 Since Pardew hadn't even seen him play when we signed him i find that unlikely... Pardew won't be deciding prices though will he? A price would have been agreed, it is now down to whether Pardew wants to keep him and whether Papa would like to stay.
Scudamore Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 Pardew won't be deciding prices though will he? A price would have been agreed, it is now down to whether Pardew wants to keep him and whether Papa would like to stay. So who at our club was in a position to agree a price on Papa? As i remember it Pardew said it was one of his contacts that put them onto Waigo in the first place.
Thedelldays Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 So who at our club was in a position to agree a price on Papa? As i remember it Pardew said it was one of his contacts that put them onto Waigo in the first place. cortese..?
Scudamore Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 cortese..? And i assume he agreed a price for a player based on his ratings in Championship Manager?
Thedelldays Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 And i assume he agreed a price for a player based on his ratings in Championship Manager? maybe.. maybe he had OTHER contacts in football..maybe in italy that he went too..????? maybe he (the club) was offered papa on a season loan with a set price already... maybe we have no set signing fee at all in place..?
Scudamore Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 maybe.. maybe he had OTHER contacts in football..maybe in italy that he went too..????? maybe he (the club) was offered papa on a season loan with a set price already... maybe we have no set signing fee at all in place..? Insightful...
Thedelldays Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 Insightful... more likely outcomes than a chairman of a mulitmillion pound busniess owned by a multi-billionaire using a computer game as his scouting tool
Saintandy666 Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 To be honest, most footballers playing at a high level have a bit of an ego. You have to have one really to have the confidence to make it at such a high level.
Scudamore Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 more likely outcomes than a chairman of a mulitmillion pound busniess owned by a multi-billionaire using a computer game as his scouting tool And you think that i was seriously suggesting that was the case? I don't believe any price has been agreed is where i stand in case you're confused.
broncoboy Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 As someone said he has a good name He has a good goal celebration too and apart from that causes defences a lot of problems He has pace and a good touch Sign him up and give him more time on the pitch And apart from that I am considering having his excellent name tattoed across my arse
Matthew Le God Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 (edited) Since Pardew hadn't even seen him play when we signed him i find that unlikely... Don't take my word for it... The 25-year old, who joins from Serie A side Fiorentina, arrives at St. Mary's on loan until the end of the 2009/10 season, with an option to buy at the conclusion of the current campaign. It is common practice for the price to be set before the loan has started. There would have been a hefty loan fee, % of wages and a pre-determined fee to make it permanent should Saints decide to take it up. For the purposes of Football Manager 2010, I guessed this fee to be around £500k but that was a pure guess on my part. Probably slightly too high in hindsight. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1785065,00.html Edited 9 April, 2010 by Matthew Le God
Saint_clark Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 I'm pretty sure it was said in the article when we signed him that we had an agreed price. I'd imagine it was set by Fiorentina. EDIT; Beaten to it by MLG I see.
Hopkins Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 So who at our club was in a position to agree a price on Papa? As i remember it Pardew said it was one of his contacts that put them onto Waigo in the first place. Well seeing as i'm pretty sure it was one of Cortese's contacts that put us onto Waigo in the first place and not Pardew, I imagine it was Cortese who is in a position to agree a price with him.
rooney Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 As well as all the other attributes mentioned above, he can get back and help the defence. Remember him at Wembley? No brainer for me.
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 9 April, 2010 Posted 9 April, 2010 yes i'd sign Papa.... but he reminds me a bit of Bradley Wright -Phillips in his style of play, constantly off side, quick, and scores important goals more often than not after being on as a sub. He has time to develop though so bring him in If he's that similar to BWP why on earth would you want to sign him? How long did we give him to develop? Did he develop? No. Once a headless chicken always a headless chicken, I suspect. OK, he caused some problems against Poopey, but then look what they had in defence! So its a "no thanks" from me.
