I grew up with Liverpool being the team. Leeds Utd had their moments, Nottm Forest, etc... but it was always Liverpool. They even denied us the league title, after all. But since the rise of Man U, the constant thorn that have been Arsenal, over the years, and the relatively new kid on the block, that is Chelsea, Liverpool are nowhere. They are now a class in quality behind Aston Villa and Spurs also.

I don't tend to watch other teams, but occasionally I'll watch a match that doesn't involve Saints. And I couldn't believe how ordinary Liverpool were. What has happened to them..? This is the club that Bill Shankly made great and Bob Paisley took even further. I can only assume that Reading played that well that they made Liverpool look average. Benitez has to go.

Mind you, I couldn't care less.

Makes me laugh when I see fans crying for a 'big 4' team when they've lost a couple of games or been knocked out of a cup. I wonder how they would cope if they ever got relegated?

Yeah, someone needs to drum some toughness into that little porker.

I've just spoken to my liverpool supporting flat mate. Unbelievably he is still following the 'In Rafa we trust' idea and blames everyone but Rafa, particularly the board (which is fair enough IMO) but also the players! I didnt point out to him that they're all Benitez's players so at the end of the day it was his fault!

As much as I really don't like Reading, i was well chuffed for them they deserved it. Cant believe McAnuff fluffed his chance after that run. There's no chance they'll be anywhere near relegation if they play like that.

Liverpool are going downhill fast, if Torres left they'd be a bottom half team. In fact with their financial problems and being stuck with Rafa, im half tempted to bet that we'll be a league above within 5 years.

I cant stand liverpool..going on how he has no money etc

despite the fact he has signed a massive amount of players, only for most of them to be shyt and he sends them out of the door again..

they complained they had no money this season (and still do)

I must of imagined the £38m purchase of Aquilani and Johnson...

and now I read they may be getting MaxI rodrigez...

If wenger spent £50m they will probably win the league...

benitez success has been two penalty shoot outs...great they did win them..but that is how close the margins have been..

they are so crap..and I hope this is the decline of LFC (and MUFC come to think of it)

Indeed, but it's what he paid for it that makes it even more bemusing.

When Gerrard and Torres hand in their transfer requests, there will be another 10 years of rebuilding

Anfield chiefs were so sure of thrashing Reading, they sent the email to Kop season-ticket holders at 5pm on Wednesday, two hours before the third-round match had even begun.

However, three hours later Reading beat Liverpool 2-1 and went through to face Burnley.

Liverpool fans were understandably angry.

One supporter, Martin Jones, told The Sun: "I didn't read it until after the game.

"When I got on the computer and opened it up I couldn't believe my eyes.

"It was bad enough to crash out of the cup but then for the club to try and sell me tickets for the next round was like a slap in the face."

I really don't like Reading or their plastic fans, but I don't like Liverpool much more either. Liverpool were off their game but I think they were the better team, they dominated the game and passed the ball effortlessly around the Reading players. Reading were lucky to get the penalty, not saying that it wasn't a penalty, more the fact that they probably didn't deserve it after wasting so many good chances over the course of 90 minutes, especially the McAnuff chance. I do think that Liverpool going out will be a good thing for the club though, because it shows them that they need to improve the squad a lot more if they want to get anywhere near the top 4 this year.

I had Liverpool down to win the title this year because they were so good last year, but since Xabi Alonso went they've just not been the same team. They need somebody like Alonso who'll break up play and create chances for them, somebody like MS only better. They've been really unlucky with injuries though this season, especially now with Torres, Benayoun and Gerrard out at the same time, who are arguably Liverpool's 3 most important players. I still think Rafa will turn things around though, and I also think that Aquilani will come good. He's a quality, quality player and he'll show that over the course of the next month or so.
