Arizona Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 His wages and signing on fee? 'Not much' as opposed to 'nothing'. A lot cheaper than spending £1m on someone on a 3.5 year deal on £8k a week.
david in sweden Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 (edited) Apparently training with us with a view to a 6 month move! According to you know who anyway lol for the record: I saw him on Euro TV in an international Sweden v.Malta last autumn. (The maltese 10 man wall kept out the Swedes till 81st min. and then Malts. lost 0-1... an own.goal ) HOWEVER; He was the one man forward line, had a blistering turn of pace, somewhat reminiscent of Marian Pahars - he was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. SFC Forever Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 (edited) Murty, Connolly are just two who impressed during training and got contracts. bad luck maybe but trials don't always prove anything. Just that the player concerned wants a contract. Supposing that he gets a regular starting place whose position does he take? Connolly perhaps as he is similar in that he is a nippy striker. Lallana who is slower, Papa or Antonio? Paterson is already way down the pecking order and another striker will push him further down. We are overloaded with players and yet we don't have the one thing this team really needs. A good holding midfielder. Someone with more than Wotton has though Paul always gives you everything. Fonte and Seaborne are hopefully going to keep us going till the season finishes with Jaidi and Perry making it 4 CB's. Both newcomers able to cover there side of the pitch as backs as well. forwards are not something I would have thought we were in need of. However if this Mifsud could show AP that he is too good to miss then by all means go for it. I trust AP, but not blindly, to keep picking players to improve us. Most of his choices have worked out though not all. Edited 13 January, 2010 by SFC Forever

Was going to say the same - every time I've seen him he's reminded me a little of Pahars. Short, nimble, tricky and with a good turn of pace. I'd happily see him here to prove himself on a short-term deal.
david in sweden Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 Apparently training with us with a view to a 6 month move! According to you know who anyway lol There seems to be a bit of that scenario at Staplewood. I recall that Connolly was "training with us " for some weeks before he joined us ! How many more "unmentionables" are jogging around out there - waiting to get fit and be signed?

Chez Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 I trust AP, but not blindly, to keep picking players to improve us. Most of his choices have worked out though not all. spot on. Murty is very average, but the difference is now he has had plenty of time to identify the men he wants rather than taking what was effectively left. Loaning player before signing them, or short 6 month deals are a very good way forward.
Minsk Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 I have to say I'd like to see us going for a striker that is going up the football world not down. We already have the experience with Connelly, Lambery and Waigo. Mind you who is there other than Jackson? Load of Kak if you ask me. I'm pretty sure his name is spelt 'KAKA' (and some on here might even complain if we signed HIM!) As for Mifsud: if there are any legs in this rumour at all (which is very doubtful given the initial source) then I would be happy for us to have a punt on him on a 6 month deal. We do need another fwd. (I prefer for it to be Jackson, Barnard or possibly even Kaka though).
St_Tel49 Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 Not me, trust me it's not from me. Love you all and take care, more important things in life than football x Mods! That is surely an infraction.
itchen Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 Would be a decent short term signing. Think he was at his best for Coventry coming from the left in a 4-5-1/4-3-3. Cover for Lallana and a different option for the last 15-20 minutes if things aren't going our way. I don't really understand the negativity towards him, he's a decent player and would provide backup to key positions. Not sure why people think every signing has to be good enough to jump straight into the starting XI and improve the team, football is a squad game. You clearly don't read this forum very often. It's a tradition that every signing will be greeted with remarks such as "No better than what we have", "Not good enough", "Don't rate him" and "Meh". To make such a remark it is not important whether or not you have seen the player in action or whether you have considered that Pardew gets paid a lot more than you because he might, just might, know a little bit more about football. It's all part of the traditional welcome we give to new players at our friendly family club.
CHAZZA 92 Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 I think Mifsud would be a good addition for the squad in the attacking department as he's a proven goal scorer at championship level and could bang in a few goals for our playoff push. Matthew Le God Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 Remember Murty was a Wotte pick (that doesn't mean I don't rate Murty I do). Initially he was a Wotte player whilst on trial, he was still on trial when Pardew took over. Murty wouldn't have signed a contract if Pardew didn't want him. We had a proven goalscorer last season that welet go very cheaply. he scored at a much better ratio than mifsud has done in the same league. Saint Fan CaM Posted 14 January, 2010 Share Posted 14 January, 2010 Probably not true, however he is exactly the type of player AP would favour - I think he would shadow Connolly perfectly if fit.

Can't understand how you think we are sorted for front men though, we need back up for Rickie, and ideally a nippy goalscorer to play alongside him, as Connolly is picking up injuries as fast as Pompey are racking up interest charges. I believe Kevin Lisbie on loan at Colchester from Ipswich, would be ideal for us as he has the pace needed alongside Lambert but also has the strength to fill in for Rickie when needed. opthomps Posted 14 January, 2010 Share Posted 14 January, 2010 I would be well up for signing him, especially on a short term deal. Hes always looked pretty classy to me, though exclusively on tv i admit. When DC is out we look short. God forbid an injury to lambert, so lets get him in, if AP is happy with him

I'm glad to see the new blood at the back, but without decent cover for Lambert we have no " real striker" in the forward line. I repeat my prev. comments. we need a tough, ugly, old-fashioned CF to terrorise the oppositions defence...scoring every match is not a requirement. George Kirby, Joe Jordan and Ian Dowie were good examples, they " made " goals for others by putting the fear of Christmas past into the defence. sandwichsaint Posted 14 January, 2010 Share Posted 14 January, 2010 Mifsud, someone I've flagged up in the past. Would be quality at this level, technically very good, intelligent movement and the sort of 'creative' player we lack. Not sure he is desperately pacey (as some seem to think) nor is his goal scoring record as good as it might be. I would see him as cover for Lallana/Connelly and would think if he is fit and interested he could be a very useful addition, sorry to those that think he's not good enough and that we should aim higher; perhaps you could all pm ML and tell him to spend more of his own money on your football team. I think if we had 11 1m-pound-players (in the 3rd Division!) there would still be people on here moaning.
SuperMikey Posted 14 January, 2010 Share Posted 14 January, 2010 Thought we should've signed him earlier in the season tbh, he could've given us the extra dimension up front that we lacked before we had Connolly. He'd be quality in L1, never scored a huge amount of goals but we have Lambert to do that for us! He'd be great foil for Big Lambo up front, and I think we'd be mad to pass him up imo. Some of those goals are pretty good, seems as if he likes the ol' turn and shot.
david in sweden Posted 14 January, 2010 Share Posted 14 January, 2010 Ugly?....Dowie? Are you sure? I was actually thinking metaphorically, not necessarily of their/his looks](*,) and their vigourous style of play. George Kirby was abit of a ladies favourite as I recall - not UGLY at all.
