bungle Posted 14 January, 2010 Posted 14 January, 2010 My guess would be: Davis Otsemobor - Fonte - Jaidi - Harding Waigo - Morgan - James - Hammond - Lallana Lambert I personally would go with: Bart Otsemobor - Fonte - Jaidi - Harding James - Morgan - Hammond - Waigo Lallana Lambert Yeh, I think he'll pick a centre-half out with injury too.
Gordon Mockles Posted 14 January, 2010 Posted 14 January, 2010 Davis Otsemebor - Fonte - Perry - Harding James Schneiderlin - Hammond Waigo - Lallana Lambert Subs: Seaborne, Thomas, Antonio, Connolly, Mills, Wotton & Bart.
Arizona Posted 14 January, 2010 Posted 14 January, 2010 Yeh, I think he'll pick a centre-half out with injury too. Yeah, I only put that in so you'd have something to moan about. If he is definitely out with that eye injury I'd pick Perry instead.
Saint Bones Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Yeah, I only put that in so you'd have something to moan about. If he is definitely out with that eye injury I'd pick Perry instead. well since we've been taken over there has been a disticnt lack of material to moan about
Professor Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Away game. Connolly still recovering from injury, Defence not having played together before - expect Pardew will start cautiously with 4-5-1 Davies Otsemebor - Fonte - Seaborne - Harding Waigo - James - Schneiderlin - Hammond - Lallana Lambert
Fergie Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Davis Otsemebor - Fonte - Perry - Harding James Schneiderlin - Hammond Waigo - Lallana Lambert Subs: Seaborne, Thomas, Antonio, Connolly, Mills, Wotton & Bart. This is exactly the starting line-up i was waiting for someone to put up. seriously think he'll start with this. wouldn't be surprised if he started with Seabourne from what he said on the OS this morning about it but think he's gonna want to win this game so will be a little cautious. Millwall have the ability to sting us at the Den if were not careful. 2-1 the saints is my prediction.
woodsaint Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 +1 wif perry at cb, cnt see 3 new signings all starting, would be a risk to have 3 of 4 defenders who havnt played together. Seabourne wil be on the bench me thinks
NickG Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 echo think he was signed in time but we are keeping it quiet
Avenue Saint Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 If Connolly fit, take James out if not, Fergie +1
croydonsaint Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 echo think he was signed in time but we are keeping it quiet Sorry, not read previous posts. Is this comment ironic or is it a possability?
Andy_Porter Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Davis James - Seaborne - Fonte - Harding Waigo - Hammond - Morgan - Lallana Connolly - Lambert If Connolly can't start bring Ostemebor in, play James wide right and move Waigo upfront or just play 4-5-1 with James in front of the back four.
hutch Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Why does everybody want right-footed Fonte on the left, and left-footed Seaborne on the right?
Matthew Le God Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 There are some big clues as to how Saints will line up against Millwall in the manager interview on Saints player. They show long clips of training and the back four being coached by Wally Downes (defense coach) is... Harding Seaborne Fonte Otsemobor
Andy_Porter Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Why does everybody want right-footed Fonte on the left, and left-footed Seaborne on the right? No reason, just don't really put much thought into posting a side on here.
Thedelldays Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 why does everything think pardew will put to new CB in together let alond add another new defender in Otsemobor all of which would hardly know each other and ask them to play a very hard away game ????????????????????
Matthew Le God Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 why does everything think pardew will put to new CB in together let alond add another new defender in Otsemobor Because as I said above... saints-cris Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Davis Otsemobor, Fonte, Seabourne, Harding Waigo, Hammond, James, Schneiderlin, Lallana Lambert Gotta play Seabourne as apart from Thomas we have no big centre back. Someone has to help Lambert out though.

Harding Seaborne Fonte Otsemobor that would mean changing 25% of the team...75% of the already leaky defence....those players barely know each others name.. I reckon.. Otsemobor Perry Fonte Harding

Why wouldn't he? He chucked Trottman straight in when we signed him. I'd rather play Fonte and Seaborne who have only had a couple of training session together than play Perry and Thomas that's for sure. In an ideal world it would be Jaidi and Fonte.

In an ideal world it would be Jaidi and Fonte. both CB spots..? wiho will take charge of calling for them to push up for offside..? full backs will not really know them and they will now really know the full backs...they would have had a handfull of training session together (fonte and seaborne) who will be the main ball attacker who will be the one that drops behind..? that simply cannot be sorted out in 2 days suffieciently to deal with millwall away... I just cannot see him giving TWO new CB a start on sat.....unless he has no other choice

Ideal world Jaidi would be fit and we'd have an easy home game and just bed in Fonte, we're not in that position and I think we have to take a bit of a gamble. Play Davis to add a bit of experience, he never stops talking to the back four and they're going to need that and infront of him I'd go with both Searborne and Fonte - good players don't need weeks to get to know eachother imo.

"gelling"...new player need to get to know each other..and playing 2 new CBs with a new RB away to Millwall will be criminal imo... if those two CBs were Terry and Vidic, then we would not have a problem...but they are not
Window Cleaner Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 both CB spots..? I just cannot see him giving TWO new CB a start on sat.....unless he has no other choice Why not? they cannot be worse than any of our other options. In fact after listening to the Pardew interviaw I would say that there is a fair chance that he does go for Seaborne and Fonté,simply because they provide more in midfield than any of the others. I think that once you see this new defensive stability actually passing the ball you will see a different midfield. When you hoof the midfield is completely bypassed and nullified.

Avenue Saint Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 listening to that interview i think its obvious that we're looking at a "first team" striker..
Andy_Porter Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 but seaborne is an average league 1 player...not a world beater how the hell can davis command the back line and make the call for them all to push up from an offisde...? remember when we were in the CCC (with better players) and burley bought in some half decent additions..remember the magic word..? Obviously Fonte has to play and Harding is a given on the left. I'd go with James to give a bit more stability and then it's a toss up between Perry, Thomas and Seaborne, I really don't think Perry is going to be a leader or much of an organiser at the back. I guess a lot of it comes down to how vocal Fonte and Seaborne are, Pardew is obviously in a much better position than any of us to make the call. If he think it's better to go with Perry/Thomas and Fonte then so be it, either way I don't think it will be a huge problem. Good players adapt quickly, just like Trottman and Jaidi.

Been saying this for so long it's spot on imo. Fonte is exactly the type of player i'd have bought in as a priority this window.
Matthew Le God Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 how the hell can davis command the back line and make the call for them all to push up from an offisde...? Just because 3 of the defenders are new you think they will ignore Davis?
Thedelldays Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Just because 3 of the defenders are new you think they will ignore Davis? do you really think the GK makes the "push up" calls to play off side......jesus..
The9 Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 ------------------Davis----------------- --Thomas----Perry----Fonte----Harding-- -----------------James------------------ Antonio---Hammond--Schneiderlin--Lallana -----------------Lambert---------------- Subs: Bialkowski, Otsemobor, Seaborne, Waigo, Gobern, Wotton, Connolly. Can't see the manager risking three new defenders at once unless they've been having a bloody good workout in training together, or starting 4-4-2 away from home, or starting with Wotton in midfield, so that leaves what I've put up there, with my main doubts being Davis/Bart, Perry/Seaborne and Waigo/Antonio.

Thomas? get out of here, we need to win this game.
Matthew Le God Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 do you really think the GK makes the "push up" calls to play off side......jesus.. Did I at any point say they did? All I said was they won't ignore Davis.

Watch the manager interview on Saints player and video clips of training and you will see that all three new signing and Harding have been working together as the defensive unit.
The9 Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Watch the manager interview on Saints player and video clips of training and you will see that all three new signing and Harding have been working together as the defensive unit. I'm not paying for that load of crap... I know from experience that you can chuck strikers into any team, their mistakes don't cost goals and the don't need to know what their teammates are going to do to be effective. However, with defenders it takes time to learn each others' methods of play, their decision making tendencies and strengths and weaknesses, and even something like two defenders being called "Dan" can cause problems with communication in time-stressed situations, so it's a hell of a risk slinging three newcomers in at once - though it's obviously the longer term goal. Depending on how Pardew decides to address it, it might be easier to assimilate Harding with the other 3 already working as a unit than drip feed them in gradually. Jaidi's current injury makes all of this that bit more urgent, of course.
CWD Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 I dont understand the arguement about not playing two new CBs. Assuming we play Fonte, anyone we play with him will only have known him for two days, whether thats Perry or Seaborne it doesnt matter. I think it will be Seaborne as MLG's evidence sounds convincing With what we know now, my revised starting line up is: Davis Otsemobor - Fonte - Seaborne - Harding ---James - Hammond - Schniederlin--- Waigo------------------------Lallana -------------Lambert----------------
Under Weststand Posted 15 January, 2010 Posted 15 January, 2010 Unless AP & the coaching staff are 100% happy with what they've seen of the 3 new signings in practice, then I'd doubt he'd go for 3 new faces at the back, as it would be a risk. So I'd probably go with. - - - - - - - - -Bart Ostemobor - Fonte - Perry - Harding James - Hammond - Schniederlin - Lallana - - - - -Waigo - - Lambert Would put Connolly in for Waigo but if not 100% better to come on as an impact sub letter on in the game.
