Dan Seaborne Signed on 3.5 year Contract.

I really dont understand people's negative response to this....

If reports are to be believed then Leicester, Notts Forest and Norwich were all after him (to name a few), he is 22, built like a the proverbial brick house and highly rated by Exeter fans. He will learn from Perry and Jaidi and grow into a top PL CB, or at least i assume that is the aim.

Welcome Dan, I for one am happy to have you here. Dont be put off by the less than warm welcome from the minority

Well said that man. Despite strong competition (i.e. he can't be carp can he?) he has chosen to come here and be part of our project. We should be pleased not bloody moaning based on people seeing him for 1 game when he played for a struggling team at SMS.

Hmm. It seems a mixed response to me.

I think YOU'RE disappointed that we seem to have missed out on Ward. I think the rest of us are putting our faith in a management team that have done very well so far, and are hopefully not basing their opinion on whether he played well or not against us

So I'm the ONLY person who has expressed indifference or disappointment on this thread? Get a grip.

yeah that's what kind of suggests he's cover for Jaidi more than anything, as pard's has been trying to get away from us hoofing it at the back, i can't imagine he'll go straight into the team to increase that!

What if (just what if) Seaborne is to be the defensive partner of Jaidi and Fonté is going to play in front of the back 4.

I think some fans are forgetting we've got a lot of games coming up in the league (not to mention all those JPT and FA Cup games) and Pards is looking to chop & change the squad & give players a rest as much as possible for some games. The addition of Seaborne will help lighten the load for the rearguard & this weather/the pitch/injuries will start to add up - so an additional CB/LB will be very handy.

He's not going to be first automatic choice by the sound of it - but a very decent addition possibly against "lesser" opposition.

Give the managers job to Hypo...he knows best;)

Finally somone who speaks sense ;)

Seriously though, my reaction is the same as someone being majorly excited by a new signing they have hardly seen. I can only go on the evidence we have, that is the other fans on the exeter forum and the evidence I saw from the boxing day game. He might turn out to be brilliant but for now I am giving my reaction on the evidence available.

When we are linked with quality championship defenders like Ward, this APPEARS to be a step down and is a little disappointing. With the signing of fonte I was expecting signings of a similar stature. Seaborne could well turn out to be even better than him but the initial evidence suggests not.

Open your eyes, and ask yourself who is better placed to make this call - you, or the club. Again, I'll put my faith in them. And maybe let the signature on the contract dry before giving the new bloke a hard time. Cheers

how do you know it was ever on to fall through??

Probably like Lines,a lot of hot air from people who live in dream worlds and dine with CEOs of multinationals every day.

There was deffo something going on - Coleman said so. Just looks as though we couldnt agree personal terms.

That is of course assuming that it the transer is definitely off

I've just posted on the Ward thread - I reckon this Jaidi eye injury maybe more severe than we thought, hence the two, and maybe third centre back signing - especially if Thommo is off, it may have forced Pardew's hand. Just my take on it!

If Jaidi is out long term (speculation only), then it would have left us Fonte, Perry, Thommo, Lancashire and Martin. The latter is "one for the future", and Pardew's use of Lancashire and Thomas suggests he has little faith in them. That would leave us "down to the bare bones " (sorry to sound like Re****p). I can see the sense. I just assume Thomas is moving on.

A little underwhelmed but heyho, in Pards we trust. Good that he can play left back as we haven't really got any other adequate cover for Dan Harding. Perhaps this means Fish Mills will be going out on loan again also?

Hopefully we can offload both of Thomas & Lancashire & then still bring in Ward. Ideally we want 2 players per position.

Murty (James) - Fonte (Ward) - Jaidi (Perry) - Harding (Seaborne)

?

Meaning that we have a very real idea of what a player is worth and aren't (or apparently so) going to be pushed over it easily.

He's 22, ambitious and won't be costing us a fortune so under Pardew's tutelage he'll probably develop into the real thing. What you have to remember is that we need a squad that can take us through the CCC to the prem and still be young and fit enough to play up there for a couple of seasons whilst we find our feet again. Of course, it is always a gamble to try to spot future potential but signing PTB 30-something year olds or loanees is only ever going to be a short-term stop-gap solution of limited success and currency. I thought the Exeter RB was the bloke to sign there and then on Boxing day but maybe it would not have been so wise to make such decisions on top of a Christmas day blow-out...

Or maybe they got the names mixed up in correspondence... ??? !!!

But thats the thing, a lot of these rumours you here may have legs, just when things fall through the club is not going to come out and say 'we have failed to sign ward' they just move on to the next target.

We may have had enquiries for most of the players on our rumour list, but as fans, we will never know.

I personally think the Ward deal came into difficulties for some reason and that resulted in AP acting quickly on seaborne.

I can understand Hypo's deflation, i think we all are a little, it's like being offered a mars bar and getting a chocolate biscuit, they are just not in the same league.

Although i am happy with the attention that DS has achieved from the CCC and in AP i trust, it just would have made more sense if the boy could play RB.

Seems like this signing is all about strengthening the squad and looking to the future. I'm not expecting him to walk into the first team but if he can provide cover for the rest of the season, being used as needed and develop into a better performer for next season when we will undoubtedly lose two of the current batch of centre backs at the club - Perry and Thomas - and his first team opportunity may open up.

As for us missing out on signing Ward, perhaps the club plan for the likes of Thomas and Lancashire are leaving either permanently or on loan during this window. If so there is a gap in the squad for a CB which would be Ward. I don't think any of us know enough to be able to say for certain that we have missed out on Ward yet.

Good signing, relatively young, cheap, and rated by other teams higher than us. Got to be better than the back ups we currently have.

Indeed, and several of the squad are not going to make the journey with Saints up the leagues, so we need young players who can take the first step.

Indeed. Perry will be 37 this April and I can't see him playing much longer.

At no point have I suggested that people cannot hold a different opinion to myself. You are the one who seems to have a problem with me expressing my disappointment. If you would read my earlier reply I have said he might turn out to be really good and I hope he does. The only thing I can currently go on is the available evidence. This suggests that he isn't really that special in comparison to the decent CCC performers we have been linked with. Get it?

It must have been a pretty monumental f***k up for SSN to report we had signed him if we had not even expressed an interest!

From the sounds of things I wouldn't really want Seaborne playing left back. Would be a bit like chucking Jaidi at right back?

He is not a left back..He is better on the ground than given credit for....He hoofs like any good defender when he has too.....

At the mo, not in the same mould as the Jaidi type but a work in progress....:smt023

Spent most of his days alongside a stopper Centre Half Matt Taylor (no pace) at Exeter but could still do a job......For now unless something wrong with Jaidi then would cover the CBs.....

I mentioned before about him going back on loan..

This is probably not going to happen if all the talk is right..

He will not let us down and can mix it when required.;).....Lot of talk re transfer and contract proposals..game of chess but when it comes to the crunch he with Taylor was Exeter first choice.

Left side of two or three CB..Not Left back like Harding, Mills, Vignal, Bridge...

A....CB

Good luck to him at Saints.....In Pards and staff etc.....:)

FFS people give him a chance! We now have a young solid defender on the books that probably cost pittance, we're looking at building a "Squad" that can cope with a sh1tload of fixtures till the end of the season. Beyond this season we won't see the likes of Perry/Jaidi/Thomas around for much longer.

A decent squad signing and we haven't finished yet so why don't people stop whinging and give the lad a chance, also wait until the window has shut then we can analyse the transfer and whinge if need be!

Spot on!

Oh SSN aren't the paragons of verity that some like to think. Maybe we are going to sign him anyway. All I'm saying is that with football transfers for players looking for reasonable large pay packets and not playing for their current clubs there is often a generous helping of bullcrap spread all over the media.

Some manager or other referred to it yesterday when talking about Beckford.

well maybe not a big money signing but remember its a TEAM game, don't need outstanding individuals in each position but it needs TEAM players.

DS character maybe one of the attributes he's signed for, captain at age 20, the back four has been pretty quiet, RJ needs a talker with him otherwise I think he loses concentration towards the later stages of the game, when Murty or Perry play theres much more communication, KD only bellows after the problem not to prevent it developing.
