RedWillie Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 They couldn't use S44 as it's to do with anti-terrorism but has been used, incorrectly, by the OB as a control tool, hence its use at the Swansea game. are you sure it wasn't section 30? That's the one always used for football (anticipated violence in a particular area etc.) Sec 44 is for Terrorism searches.

saint boggy Posted 14 January, 2010 Share Posted 14 January, 2010 Dune, the loony left introduced S44 in 2000, whereas Chris Grayling (loony right) in todays independant said The tories would change the law to cut use of stop-and-search. How does that tally up with your loony left views? There are also some great statistics on Stop-and-search from 2008-2009 197,344 people were searched. 60% of these were White, just 15.6% were Asian or Asian British. How does that fit with your profiling? Sounds like an abuse of powers by the police to me (see below, and above) I was searched about a year ago, "because tensions were running high in the area (Woolston) after the murder of Lewis Hamilton". A murder that had happened about 12 months before the event. What a load of ****e, I was walking home from the pub with my brother in law on a friday night like 1000's of other people. And I'm white, terrorism my arse. i think you mean Lewis Singleton......

Um Bongo Posted 14 January, 2010 Share Posted 14 January, 2010 This will not stop anything. The police can easily make something up to justify a search in that they smell cannabis in the car etc. That means they can search all passengers. Would they have to make it up if the grounds were there?
Mmm Donuts Posted 15 January, 2010 Share Posted 15 January, 2010 No they wouldn't, but alot of proactive coppers could probably find the grounds as the term is so ambiguous. It would obviously be down to the individual as to where he got his grounds for suspicion from. Agree with Wiltshire, wires are being crossed as to what power or act is being used for search powers. This ruling was only about terrorism as the powers are almost draconian, and many individuals would probably agree with the strength of those powers. The Human Rights Act gets alot of negative press, but it isn't all bad, maybe a politician with balls needs to try and tweak it abit for what the electorate want, but that wouldn't be east at all. LGTL Posted 16 January, 2010 Share Posted 16 January, 2010 So on the one hand, people don't want a DNA database as it's an invasion of civil liberties. On the other hand, people are moaning that random stop searching is now illegal, and are blaming it on all this "pathetic EU nanny state human right boll*cks" etc etc. Which is it?We can't use the civil liberties argument only when it suits us. aintforever Posted 17 January, 2010 Share Posted 17 January, 2010 After the way the old bill behaved yesterday at Millwall I think the less powers they have the better - bunch of tossers.
Huffton Posted 17 January, 2010 Share Posted 17 January, 2010 After the way the old bill behaved yesterday at Millwall I think the less powers they have the better - bunch of tossers. Really? I didn't see a single problem with them, and had a nice chat with a couple of them as we queued to go in. Thought the stewards all seemed friendly and polite as well. But then again I didn't go looking for trouble, or start acting like a drunken yob...

Neither did I, just got off a train and was forced to go into a pub in Waterloo station, until I reminded one of the tossers that it is a free country and I can go where I like. After the game i happened to be stood near some "known trouble makers" so had an hour of being treated like a bunch of criminals. I have ever known anything like that in my life. It's probably the same Met scum who beat up war protesters.
Thedelldays Posted 17 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 17 January, 2010 from my time over the years of going to games..home and away, football fans (in general) act like morons...some generally are awkward (i have done this plenty of times inn the past) provoke away fans etc etc..you only have to look at the northam every home game... no doubt the police are well drilled to get people in and our of, lets be honest, dodgy places like south bermondsey safely.... the times incidents happen is when people venture away from the general main police cordon.... I've been to enough games to know when the Police are being tossers. The train pulled up at waterloo, there was a big line of coppers stopping anyone getting of the platform, if you were going to football you were pushed to one side and made to stand there until they decided to move everyone to a pub. the fact that we arranged to meet our parents somewhere else and didn't want a drink seemed lost on the retards. After the game it was worse.
Mmm Donuts Posted 17 January, 2010 Share Posted 17 January, 2010 Have sat in the Northam over the past few years as I preffered the singing and banter etc, but have moved for the last couple I attended as I thought the atmosphere was getting out of hand a bit, anyway that's off topic. You're never going to get consensus on policing, on the whole I think we are pretty lucky in this country in that respect, but there is always room for improvement. By the nature of their role, they are always going to get someones back up.
aintforever Posted 17 January, 2010 Share Posted 17 January, 2010 By the nature of their role, they are always going to get someones back up. True, but if you put enough people's backs up you will only make your job harder. I have certainly lost all respect for the police now after being told to "**** off I can make you go where I want". I know people who have experienced similar "kettling" tactics on protests, they too have turned against the police from how they were treated by the Met. I can only guess what it's like for asians in london who continually get stopped and searched.

It was completely OTT, the fact that there is a cage from the ground to the station meant there couldn't be any trouble anyway. It's a tad short sighted to say it was a job well done, if there were any hoolies there that were being "kettled" you can guarantee that what the police did just made them more aggressive, more anti police and more likely to kick off with someone as soon as the the police finished doing their stuff. The ironic thing is that on the train up we were worried about the Millwall fans (a mate works with one and we were meeting some for a drink) but they were as good as gold, even paid for our cab to the stadium and walked us to the away end. It ended up being a bunch of tossers in uniform that bullied us all day.
