Pancake Posted 12 January, 2010 Share Posted 12 January, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/derby_county/8453055.stm Fair play to him, the journo is left rather tongue tied.
St Landrew Posted 12 January, 2010 Share Posted 12 January, 2010 (edited) My respect for Robbie Savage rose enormously when I heard that. He makes an excellent point also in that the local media should be trying to support the local team, not to underrmine them with rumour. EDIT: BTW, I would hardly call that fury. Bloody annoyed, more like it, and rightly so. Edited 12 January, 2010 by St Landrew

CB Fry Posted 12 January, 2010 Share Posted 12 January, 2010 Savage made a good point but then laboured it to death. Fair play to the journalist, I think Savage thought he could bully him but he failed - "get out there and do your job" was a great response from the reporter. Derby are atrocious at the moment and Savage's responses were a bit lame once he'd made his first point.

Besides it's not as if the journo stated the rumour was fact. Yes, but he did report it on the radio with thousands of people listening. The Daily Echo gets lauded on this forum for doing exactly the same thing, or at least something very similar. The journo was sh!t stirring, and obviously RS had had enough, and I don't blame him. Or maybe the journo was concerned with derby's woefull form as are their fans? ok saying about the rumour on air was maybe a mistake but if Derby are ****e week in week out he should be allowed to comment , savage even moaned about the fans who pay his wages being negative in phone ins ffs , how would you have felt if that was a saints player on solent last season ? RS made a good point about teams in league positions in the interview, he said something along the lines of "if we should've beaten Sc*nthorpe because we're above them in the league, why aren't Chelsea beating everybody?". League position isn't everything, and that's what the journo was trying to attribute their results to. He also made the point about Leeds beating Man Utd in the FA Cup (which was a bloody good point), yet all the journo could come up with in reply was "that's a cup competition". I wouldn't say that Savage was moaning about all the fans, he was just saying that the negativity doesn't really help the team to go out and perform better, which you can understand. You saw how demoralised our lads looked on the pitch last year when boos were ringing around the stadium as another pass went astray or we missed a chance. Teams suffer dips in form, and Derby are going through theirs at the moment. Teams like Sc*nthorpe are going to teams like Derby who are considered relatively big teams in the CCC but are suffering from a lack of motivation and going out there to win 3 points. Then he said something about Leeds beating Man United, and the journo rightly said "what's that got to do with Derby losing to S****horpe 4-1 at home". Answer - nothing. And his list of the Derby coaches and their glittering playing acheivements - if that had anything to do with coaching ability Bobby Charlton would've been England manager and Alex Ferguson would be unemployed. Savage was just randomly chucking sentences around to avoid offering any explanation to Derby's sizable fanbase about why they are currently p*ss poor. He was complaining that the radio reported people booing. Well they did. What does he want Radio Derby to do? "Super Derby left the field to a standing ovation after they bravely lost their third home game on the spin...." Savage was showing utter disrespect to the fans who pay money and pay his wages. Passionate delivery is one thing, but don't let it disguise the fact that Savage is thick as sh it. Edited 13 January, 2010 by CB Fry
sadoldgit Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 Savage spent most of the interview avoiding the question. Still, we have been there. When things are going bad fans turn on the players/management and the journo was asking a resonable question. The same question we were all asking when we were going down the tubes. INFLUENCED.COM Posted 13 January, 2010 Share Posted 13 January, 2010 Thought Savage was quite poor to be honest, this wasn't an after match interview where he would have been put on the back foot, he had the guys comments written down and should have done alot better knowing the type of questions any reporter or fan would have when there club are not performing, heard 'so' in response a couple of times from Savage and if he were my captain would feel he wasted an opportunity to rally the fanbase

niceandfriendly Posted 17 January, 2010 Share Posted 17 January, 2010 Savage made an absolute fool of himself in that original interview. He sounded like a broken record. Fair play to the journo who could have crumbled under the pressure of a well known professional footballer issuing direct criticism at him live on air, but didn't. Savage avoided all the questions and I'd be embarrassed if I was a Derby fan listening to our captain saying those things.
